    My girlfriend doesn't like a dry sack, I tend to agree with her.

    • Zip could be nasty as well.

    What does this item actually do??! I don't understand.

    Is it really just a waterproof bag? or is there something else I'm missing.

      Waterproof bag keeps electronics dry when camping kayaking etc

        I keep electronics in reputable brand bags rated for proper underwater use - just in case. Not worth skimping on water proofing & wreck your tech. Not expensive at sale time at outdoor stores.

        This type of dry sack is great for storing clothes so you can change into dry ones after a day hiking & crossing water. And good for sorting your gear into in your pack. But stuff or compression sacks take up less space - difficult to compress down bags that don't leak air.

        Always test your dry sack for leaks before use - hold under water & check for air bubbles.

      It's just a waterproof bag.

      I bought this from Aldi last year but it fell apart pretty quickly.

      • My son goes camping monthly and uses these dry bags all the time. We bought them last year and they are lasting well. I'm likely to buy some more as they are useful sizes and heavy material.

        • I used mine for hiking - very handy to organise a backpack. But yeah in my case they fell apart pretty quickly.

        • @apey75: Fell apart how, exactly? The seams? The zip failed? THe waterproofing went?

        • @nortyjak: From memory the material started to tear along one of the folds/creases (not the seam), which I found odd as it did appear to be quite strong and I only used these to organise the inside of my backpack. Had my clothes in one sack, my food in the other and my electrical items & portable stove in the 3rd one.

          Would not want to be kayaking across the Tasman and relying on these to keep my stuff dry, but for $7 and casual camping / hiking / etc they should be fine.

          PS. these don't have zips. The opening folds a number of times and then there is a plastic buckle to keep the fold folded. YouTube dry sack and you'll see what I mean.

        • @apey75: Cool, thanks so much.

  • ok thanks. the kathmandu one is labelled as "water resistant".. which isn't any different from just wrapping your items in a couple of plastic bags.

    If it was waterproof, I'd be interested.

      Yeah if its got zips, it's generally not going to be actually waterproof, just resistant.

        The picture ozbargain is showing is not one of the actual bags, they fold down on themselves to prevent water getting in.

        They are pretty good at keeping water out for kayak and boat use, but probably not last so long if completely submerged all the time.

        • More reputable brands may rate their dry sacks for depth & time under water.

    Some holiday trivia for all you OzBers.
    'Dry Sack' is also;
    A variety of sherry, made in the south of Spain;
    A corner on the Jerez motor racing circuit, also in the south of Spain;
    What happens to some men after they turn 65, particularly if they have had too much sherry and driven on the Jerez motor racing circuit…
