Bluetooth Tower Speaker $10 @ Officeworks Bondi Junction NSW (Possibly Elsewhere)

220

Went in to pick up this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/228506 (only $5 at Bondi Junction mind you) and found a couple of other deals, mainly this tower speaker for 10 bucks.

There's also a smaller bluetooth speaker for $5 (although it looks like it's made of a cardboard tube) and a globe (of the world type) for $5

Edit: The sign said it was down from $50, bit have seen things like this for between 50-80 over the past few weeks

    Maybe a bargain?

  • It says on the clearance sticker 'Was $50; now $10', but if you look at the bottom left side of the shelf you can clearly see $19.00. Fail!

I think it's gone through a series of price drops

      • I see.

I think it's gone through a series of price drops

If it was sold previously before this price drop for $19, it should say was $19, otherwise it is misleading advertising.

      Fail!

Your Fail is a Fail! As was explained many items go through a number of price drops.

      • Explained by who? Look at the original price and do you see a double-sticker? Yeah, OP has suggested he 'thinks' it's gone through a series of price drops as he went there to pick up something and he isn't probably associated.

        • I don't know about you, but I have never seen a tower speaker like this go $19, let alone 10. feel free to correct me if you have.

        • @Jackson: You have never seen a tower speaker like this go for $19 eh? And what's the brand name again? That's right; unknown. Don't make this about you, mate. It aint personal. We're all here for a deal and people discuss what's posted; not who posted it. Relax.

Officeworks replace the tags on the shelf so you don't need to see a double sticker to know these were $49.

Actually the last price it was sold for on their website was $49. But once again JV is only interested in attacking deals with pointless comments and won't back up his claims. How do you know the price reduction wasn't from $49 to $19 but the store reduced it to $10 after the label was printed.

@Maverick-au: LOL! Can't tell if you're just bored and trolling me or if there's some other reason but right in that Google cache link you posted the original price was $29, not $49.

Here's a pic of it and since you and Jackson are taking this very personally I'll leave you two in peace:

Take a look at the links I posted and they are nothing like the link you just posted which is a search on the model number. The fact is the original price was at least $49 and they have dropped the price a few times since early December.

@AussieDaddy: I am not taking this personally at all, however I appreciate that you may feel that way. I think you may assuming a tone that isn't there, however it would be good if you were more constructive, eg. Saying that there isn't a brand name, heaps of stuff doesn't have a brand name, does that mean it can't be a bargain? It's open for you to find any brand in the world at the price, in that way it's actually easier for you, but rather than look for an example, you would rather just say it's not a deal. A more constructive counter would be to say that you found another similar product without a brand name for the same or less, eg. Kmart selling for $39 atm which is the cheapest I could find. Even at 19 or 29 it's still half or 1/3 the price.

It's usually enough for someone to post a deal within out then implying that they should do a butt load of extra research for you, which what you are saying could be construed as

        • @Jackson:

          You missed the point…

AussieDaddy just highlighted that the 'was $50' sticker was misleading

          This is not a $40 saving, it's a $9 saving…

It's usually enough for someone to post a deal within out then implying that they should do a butt load of extra research for you,

The previous price is in the pic you posted… Hardly extra research effort…

        • @jv: so if a Porsche is 100k, and then it's dropped to 80k for a week, then it's dropped to 79k on the last day of the sale you only saved a grand? I don't agree.

Also as noted below it appears the stock has been shifted around and the 19 refers to the one that's 5 bucks, so it's at least a 19 bucks saving, 65‰ approx.

There's also the fact that the unit cannot be bought for 29 anywhere else, so in real terms the saving compared to anything else is at least $29 (that I could find anyway).

        • @Jackson:

so if a Porsche is 100k, and then it's dropped to 80k for a week, then it's dropped to 79k on the last day of the sale you only saved a grand? I don't agree.

How do you know this only dropped to $19 for one week ???

        • @jv: how do you know it didn't? I was speaking about a hypothetical situation. Regardless the point of this website is to post bargains so people can work out if something is actually a deal, if there are no other tower speakers in the world this cheap, the deal can't just be written off. Of course being brand less it's a budget speaker, but there are thousands to compare it to and no one has bothered. Go find one and then respond if you care.

        • @Jackson:

how do you know it didn't?

Prove it… You posted the deal.

        • @jv: why is the burden of proof on me? It's largely beside the point anyway. A deal is a deal if you can't get the item as cheap anywhere else, so the deal stands unless you can prove there's something else cheaper elsewhere. People post second best deals all the time when stock runs out places don't they?

Just because someone posts a deal doesn't make anyone your slave.

        • @jv: anyway now your missing the point, someone established below that it's $29 not $19

        • @Jackson:

why is the burden of proof on me?

          Because you posted the deal…

It it not the responsibility of the Ozbargain readers to show why this is a bargain.

        • @Jackson:

someone established below that it's $29 not $19

Your photo shows that the previous price was $19

        • @jv: my photo shows 2 different items in the same Bay and only one price

The smaller speakers above the big ones are sold for $19. I think the bigger ones took their place and the smaller ones mover up.
I bought the smaller ones for $9 from OW Carnegie VIC. They are good value for money. The sound is reasonably good. The bass is not-existing though. But it connects via Bluetooth, has FM radio and plays songs from SD card and Thumb drive. Even better it has a rechargeable battery so you can use it as a portable outdoor speaker. It gets quite loud. What more you can expect for $9! I went grabbed and second one.

      • Ta. That makes sense. Are they like a generic brand or from a known manufacturer? I am using some old PC speakers that I bought with a Dell computer ages ago and would like to upgrade to something bigger, and better. Wireless speakers for this cheap are kinda iffy though. Well, as you've said, what more can you expect from something cheap. Will check my local OW if there are some decent ones.

        • There is no brand name on the box. It says Tower Speaker. I bought them when they were $9. Looks like they are $5 now. But remember there is no bass at all. If you increase the volume too loud to make is sound like bass the sound distorts. Oh by the way, they come with remote controls too.

        • @apprentice: Thanks. Appreciate it, mate.

  • They also had a bunch of kids whiteboard thingys for $5.

    • They didn't have these, but they did have WD MyBook 2TB drives for $59.

  • Can you provide the product code/model no. I couldn't find that in their website. I might call my local store and check availability.

    • +1

The code on the receipt is BLBT910BK, will check the box when I get home

      • Thanks. The product is not available in OW website but the Google result shows they were sold for $29.

        • I called the local stores but they said the product code brings 'ink' in their system which is strange because I could see the product code on their website(cached version).
