    the only way I can see Ch4OD [uk] without their long ad breaks is to screen capture ,then I fast forward past them in my media player [potplayer]

    I use Ashampoo Snap. It's not free per se, but Ashampoo have given away full keys for version 6 (that does the job) semi-regularly in the past. Do a OZbargain search, you might still be able to find an active give away.

    You could try open web broadcaster (OWB) whilst it is designed to stream you can make it record parts of a screen to file. (Or indeed an entire screen)

    And it's free.

      feral, i did try to use OWB but it didnt work on my computer, it keep asking for directX i did download but still i cant use it.

    I use ActivePresenter Free Edition which works well and lets you do a bit of editing after recording, (although I usually just export and then load into Sony Movie Studio).

    No ads, nags, watermarks, or recording limits.

    I'd think twice before installing any Chinese (or for that matter, Russian, Romanian, Iranian software). "Free" can become very expensive.

  how does this compare to other options, such as Handbrake? (have used Handbrake in the past, but that was a long time ago)
