A friend said this is around AuD 12 from China xiaomi official store, and they will ship for free to China address for order more than AuD 20.
    Amazing.

    • … They'll ship to a China address? How is that useful for OzBargain??

      • +2

I'm only give some info… That means this deal is good..

    • If only they had a bayonet version… and no, I do not want to use an adapter =)

      • I can highly recommend the Philips Hue bulbs (available from Amazon France)

More expensive (around A$30 + delivery) but available in edison screw or bayonet. Just got a few in last month and they are awesome. And best of all they can be synced with the Hue dimmer switch so you don't have to pull out your phone every time you just want to turn on/off the lights :)

Surely you don't need to have an IP address for each light in the house?

    • +11

You do. IPv4 no doubt. And stop calling me Shirley.

      • Striker!

      • Why would ipv4 matter in-house?

  • +1

It appears that the smart home devices will use up all my local network ips shortly. I may need a deal for ip6 router then.

Change subnet mask from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.0.0. Go from 254 IP's to 65,534. Could also go for 10.0.0.0/8 and have 16,777,214.

      • that's handy. thanks

      • Now he needs a lot of bulbs for those IPs and a fortune to buy!

I love Xiaomi, my favourite electronics company in the world at present.

  • Researched this one - sadly it doesn't appear to work with any of the major home automation systems, at least not yet.

      • very interesting,

if you don't mind me asking, what's the ballpark cost for a set up like yours?
you look to have 2 cameras, 6+ powerpoints, and maybe a doorbell?

        all Xiaomi brand i assume?

        • +1

All Xiaomi, devices all up 3 camera 5 smart plugs, door sensor, wireless switch, security suite, window sensor.

          All up maybe $250?

        • @Michaelz101: Are you happy with your Xiaomi set-up? I was thinking about going down the Belkin Wemo path but you've got me thinking maybe this is a better option.

        • +3

@drongodave: yes, Xiaomi does a brilliant job updating all the firmware once a month except for the smart plugs, they were times when it was a little unstable with the on/off timer feature but it's been great and what is better is the devices can all link up. Ie door opens my coffee machine turns on and my fish tank lights turn on :. Vice versa

For $250 you will be crazy not too. It's got an security alarm as well. If door opens when its armed….it goes bananas with the flashing and sirens and sends you a notification instantly.

        • @Michaelz101: Thanks for the info - greatly appreciated. Although I've been very impressed with the Xiaomi products that I've purchased previously (Mi Band and Powerbanks), I felt reluctant to get locked into a Xiaomi home automation ecosystem in case it's difficult to get any support or even English versions of the required apps on the Google Play store etc. Have you had an issues in this respect?
I think I'm going to give it a try with some basic kit initially and then build up to see how it goes.
I wouldn't mind starting with a couple of bulbs and smart sockets etc.
I was thinking about these :
http://www.gearbest.com/cables-connectors/pp_168522.html (unfortunately no stock at the moment).
          http://www.gearbest.com/smart-home/pp_197862.html
          http://www.gearbest.com/ip-cameras/pp_193393.html

Any thoughts? Do you know if they are all controlled from the same app?

I know you already mentioned Gearbest and Bang Good as good places to but Xiaomi products but if you if you have any more specific tips on any recommended starter kits or specific products to go for that would be awesome.
I'm sure there are others who would be interested too.

@drongodave: I started with just a camera, then build onto it, it all runs through the same app. The app about 1 year ago was mostly english with some slight chinese here and there. But as it gets updated quite frequently, its pretty much all in english now. It runs quite stable. The security suite is useful and you can use that as your starting point. It is very centralized and works well generally.

I highly recommend the smart plugs though as they are very useful for day to day features.

you will need to get some micro 32gb sd cards for the camera as it stores it directly on the camera itself. If you want, you can buy a Mi router ( $30?) and that can store all your videos on that attached to a hard drive. You can delete\review\save all your videos on the same smart app simialr to Arlo from Netgear for a fraction of the cost.

      • That's a cool. Do you mind sharing the setup it with us , like cost, equipment and where to buy etc. ? Thanks.

Gearbest, bang good, Chinese relatives, recently got a RO water unit Xiaomi with wireless monitoring as well as Xiaomi dash cam with lane guidance :)
          Love Xiaomi :)

      • Hi Michael
what software or apps so you use for this set up?

  • nice price..

a few months ago i paid about $50 for a bluetooth LED bulb (http://www.banggood.com/E27-6W-Warm-WhiteWhite-Mobil-PhoneBl…)
fun for the novelty factor, but isnt really bright enough for work/reading..

  • Anyone know how low these dim down? Picked up a dimmable led the other day and it doesn't get as low as a 5w flouro so I am using that instead

    • I purchased one of those lights 2 weeks ago still waiting for it to arrive but my research indicates it does dim down to very low . Just white colour though

      • I think I paid 15 bucks for just a dimmable led globe, should have waited!

I have to say all the stuff you posted is really cool and amazingly cheap compared to previous gen stuff that required a home server and cabling etc, but probably the least useful thing is the light bulb in this post. Still a good price but I can definitely reach for that switch on the way into the room, although I do need a dimmable one so it makes it worth it as there is no dimmer installed.

Do you notice any load on the wireless network from all the devices?

        • The major setback is all those devices run on the 2.4ghz network and I have 29 wireless devices the last time I checked. I invested in a good router 3 years ago the ASUS AC68U. Manages everything fine and I stream chromecast as well as DLNA form the hard drive to the TV.

I actually think this globe can be very useful, study desk and the light turns on or off as you walk in and out of rooms. Your bathroom light turns on when the sensor beside your bed detects movement. Etc etc customisation is endless

        • @Michaelz101: Yes often it's just thinking of that application that it's useful for.

  • Is it only iOS and android controlled or can you use PC or web ?

  • Does anyone know the name of the app for android ?
