I think I found a laptop and would love some advice

I posted a few days back about looking for a laptop. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/229267
I've found one I like and am now asking for help from all thrifty OzBargainers!

It's the Lenovo Yoga 700 https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/laptops/lenovo/l…

Can you find me a cheaper deal? Thanks!

  • Going from Price Hipster the lowest this has been was $848 back on December 2nd; I would go see JB and find out what the cheapest they will give it to you is (and also try the laptop out - it might not be for you in person).

    • Thanks, I popped in to a store and having a play with it is what helped me decide. I'd be happy to be able to get it down to $850

    Looked at the Surface 3?

The 128GB model looks basically identical to the Yoga, but it's $839 delivered (Or $838 @ JBs)

Top one is the Yoga, bottom is the Surface. Highlighting differences here, both have 4GB ram, and 128GB SSD

      Display
      11.6 in Full HD IPS touchscreen (1920 x 1080), 10-finger multi-touch support
      10.8” ClearType Full HD Plus Display • Resolution: 1,920 x 1,280 • Aspect ratio: 3:2 • Touch: 10 point multi-touch • Surface Pen support

      Processor
Intel Core m3-6Y30 900 MHz with Turbo Boost Technology up to 2.2 GHz
Quad-core Intel Atom x7-Z8700 processor (2MB Cache, 1.6GHz with Intel Burst technology up to 2.4GHz)

      Camera
      720p HD, 1MP
3.5 megapixel front-facing camera • 8.0 megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus • Microphone • Stereo speakers with Dolby audio

      Weight
      1.10 kg
      1.37 lbs (622 g)

      • Thanks for the find, I'll pop back in store and check it out! Although I have heard that the m3 processor is better than the atom and I don't really like the idea of a tablet…

        Worth a look though

  • what are you looking to do with it?

  • Reading your original post makes me wonder why you chose this one.

In that post you said that you didn't want a tablet, but this device is a 2-in-1 so you're paying for tabletty features (touchscreen and hinge flexibility).

You also said you would want to store a lot of photos, but this has a small SSD, which would fill quickly unless you moved the photos off (to an external HD or cloud storage) regularly.

But it would be small and fast!

    • I guess that's why it pays to go and try them out instead of just looking at the specs.

I'm not too fussed on the tablet functionality but the size is perfect. I couldn't find any other laptop that was that size without tablet features. This was the only one I found where you can't remove the keyboard.

Another thing I learnt was that a larger hd made for a heavier laptop. You're right, I would have to use an external storage but I'm ok with that.

      • don't use an external hdd - just swap out the the hdd for an ssd - longer battery life and lighter

        • The Lenovo does have an ssd

  • This is an amazing laptop that I recommended to a friend. They sold a while back for $699 I believe, so not sure if they'll do that again soon or if someone else will be offering them on special. It's comparable to the new Macbook 12" (in reviews I have seen).

More RAM, bigger screen, bigger SSD, HDMI (not mini-hdmi), same functionality

    Go for this one :)

  • Thanks all for your input and help. I ended up going for the Asus Zen book UX305 and got it from The Good Guys for $750 so pretty happy with that. 13.3" Intel M5 4gb 128gb ssd.

    • I'd suggest keeping an eye out on SSD deals on here, and maybe ram. That 128gb is gonna get used fast!

      • Cheers!

      • RAM is not upgradable. SSD uses m.2

    • Good choice Lauren. It should do what you need it to do fine. Have fun and stay safe online!

    • I tried looking for this at good guys online but couldnt find it how did you find it?

      • I think it was just in store.

        • Must've got lucky every store i called said it was discontinued product out of stock :/
