From the author of Game of Thrones

An enchanting tale of courage and sacrifice for young readers and adults by the wildly popular George R.R. Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire, the series that inspired HBO's Emmy Award-winning GAME OF THRONES. Lavish illustrations by acclaimed artist Luis Royo enrich this captivating and heartwarming story of a young girl and her dragon.

From ancient times, the ice dragon was a creature of legend and fear, for no man had ever tamed one. When it flew overhead, it left in its wake desolate cold and frozen land. But Adara was not afraid. For Adara was a winter child, born during the worst freeze that anyone, even the Old Ones, could remember.

Adara could not remember the first time she had seen the ice dragon. It seemed that it had always been in her life, glimpsed from afar as she played in the frigid snow long after the other children had fled the cold. In her fourth year she touched it, and in her fifth year she rode upon its broad, chilled back for the first time. Then, in her seventh year, on a calm summer day, fiery dragons from the North swooped down upon the peaceful farm that was Adara’s home. And only a winter child—and the ice dragon who loved her—could save her world from utter destruction.

  • So is this related to game of thrones at all or a complete seperate story?

    • -1

is this when dragons are revived by white walkers?

      • -2

Knowing how George RR Martin rolls, even if it's a brand new story, somewhere along the line he's gonna link it up to game of thrones.

Also, warning, do not get attached to any character in the new book, 99.99999% certain they'll die.

        • +3

          Don't spoil it!!

      • -1

I'll have to let you off with a warning this time, but yeah warn us before spoiling.

        You have been warned.

    • +1

The story is completely separate; it was written in 1980. But there's probably more similarities than there just being dragons. http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/The_Ice_Dragon

  • Not available in the US store :-(

    • Yeah bummer :(

      • Must have just changed the price, was still showing as $9.99 earlier. Cheers

      I don't buy into hype.

I judge pieces of work on their own merits.

The 7 Books, 5 + 1 seasons on Fox / torrents, the following….how many of these 'many authors' have this please?

        • +4

I see…people who enjoy GoT are all Sheeple and you're the only enlightened one.

          Well done Bro.

        • +1

Haters will be haters… sad attitude to have… I used to like that until I saw how bad it looks in people :)

        • -4

@tsunamisurfer: Take out the pr0n and gore from his books and then tell me what's left there to enjoy, please.

        • +2

@saaron: Pretty sure this guy hasn't read the books, he's just watched a few episodes of the show and came to a badly informed conclusion.
Just to clarify, he outlined visual aspects of the books which were represented in the tv show, I doubt people got a rush from the text descriptions of 'gore'.

      • Popularity isn't necessarily a sign of quality. Transformers films have made billion…

    • +1

Don't worry mate, I see where you are coming from.

I think his world was just a little easier to bring to the screen as opposed to other fantasy novels, which would end up pretty mediocre with poor CGI coz they don;t have the money to pump into constant awesome visuals.

Personally I found the books boring, but enjoyed the TV series a lot.

    • I don't know why he is so overhyped. There are many authors way better than him out there.

    ;)

    • +1

It was first published in 1980, well before A Game of Thrones.

Also, as Neil Gaiman likes to point out, George R.R. Martin is not your bitch.

This book is about a malnourished dragon who stays up for 8 days before robbing a liquor store.

I wish he would stop writing these other books and on his blog and just hurry up and get on with GOT. There will be riots if he has a heart attack or something before he finishes.
