Mitsubishi Heavy Industries 7.1kw Air Conditioner $1548.80 (+$150 Cashback via Redemption) @ Sparky Direct

990

Was inspired by the Good Guys current cash back offer to look around. Decided on the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries 7.1kw due to good reviews.

Great price at Sparky Direct, then price beat at Bunnings brings it down to $1393.92 and $1243.92 after cash back. Listed at Harvey Norman for $1996 and some places above $2k so this is an awesome deal.

There is a $150 cash back at the moment through Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). If you're in Queensland there's also a $200 Energex rebate which brings this down to an incredible $1050 or so (but given its only QLD I haven't put this in the headline figure).

Not sure how long it will stay there before Bunnings changes their price but even at $1548 at Sparky Direct that's a great price. Bunnings didn't seem too impressed and couldn't believe it but couldn't argue as it ticks all their policy boxes.

    • Anyone reading this trying to get advice, don't listen to anything scoobydoodle has written, it's incorrect and doesn't even understand the basics.

  • MHI make good air cons and have good service. Had one in my old house, reasonably quiet and a good performer.

The motor went out a couple of months before the 5 year warranty was out and they came out to inspect/service quickly and without any fuss or bother.

Have a couple of Daikins in the new house and to be honest I would rate the MHIs a bit higher.

  • Has anyone not in QLD actually been able to price beat the Sparky Direct price? Because shipping is over $100. I would have thought that the price beat was after shipping, but please let me know if you've had a different experience.

Appliance central does free shipping but charges $1,600 for this unit.

I'd be interested in what others experiences have been.

    • Theres a pick up option in QLD so might be able to, I'm in VIC so i think they will consider the shipping in my case.

I daresay you'd need to be an Energex customer in order to get that cash back? Only Ergon where we are

  • We got one couple of months ago for $1600 + $550 install…. Amazing and quite unit….

  • Great price.. My folks have a Mhi unit and from memory around 12 yrs old now and still going great. When i moved into my new place i got a fujitsu which has the same output and whilst its been a good unit the past 6 years, i reckon the mitsu cools better.

    • Newer air cons don't cool as well in general due to focus on energy star ratings. They have various methods of saving power now such as the not starting the fan until it is cool enough. The same will be the case with a newer MHI.

  • Just thought I would mention that this model (ZMA) is not the Hyper Invertor i.e. more efficient model - (ZMXA)

    But still a great price!!

    Thanks OP

  • I got one through Bunnings via price match to Appliance Central. Mine on order though as they didn't have it in stock. Thanks OP. Now to find an installer. Any recommendations for Northern Suburbs (Melbourne)? Bunnings quoted me between $800-$1,200 to organise an install.

    • Any luck with an installer in Melbourne? I will start ringing around and let you know how I go as well. I assume for your quote it wasn't a back to back install.

  • Sorry "theheulk" I didnt get around to seeing your question before, but glad you got the same price match!

    • right timing…person was about to go on their break and they just pushed it through…quick look at my phone and done…

Not sure who down voted my "layman" explanation to ycon of what "KW and means and what room size it might covers" but like I said, it was a general explanation. And was careful not to make black and white comments etc. and couched what I said as being from my experience which may be useful to someone. But I get down voted??

Most other answers after that was all technical without really explaining anything??

    • Probably because of the line "so 7KW means at full load, it will use 7KW of electricity per hour" - which is wrong. A 7KW unit like this, might use about 2KW of electricity at full-load. Roughly equivalent to leaving your kettle boiling away :-)

  • All good with Bunnings price beat in Melbourne. As of this morning there was another 2 in stock at Northlands, and they are happy to place on order if not in stock in your store. Back order takes up to a week.

    • Is it possible to post Bunnings slip please…

    • did you get a quote for installation fee?

  • Tried a price match with bunnings today and no joy. They add the delivery of $100 to the sparky direct price and they come in under. Anyone else been successful with a price match/beat? Are you able to post receipt?

Use appliance central website…$1,600 and free delivery…a smart bunnings person will add delivery…not worth trying sparky…

    • Picked one up yesterday from Bunnings Burleigh. Price matched without question and no issues with delivery charges to be added on.

I'll post a copy of the docket when I get home.

  • Hi guys, quick update. I had some success today with bunnings. Spoke wih a nice lady at the special order desk who ordered a unit in from Mitsubishi as there was no stock in store. Total (inc gst) came to $1,467.00. Not quite the 10% but close. $150 cash back on top of that and I'm feeling like it's a good deal. Thanks to everyone who offered advice!

  • Just got price guarantee at Bunnings against Sparky Direct online price (including $60 bulk shipping to NSW) - $1,447. Less $150 cashback and that brings it under $1,300 #winning

    • Not sure how, but Bunnigs match to $1403, picked up already

My bro got this price beat but dealing with Bunnings was a headache. Staff thought there was stock on the floor, and then found out that there was no stock on the floor. Staff would tell us over the phone that we could purchase in advance to secure stock and pick up later, and then when we got in store, got told that we had to pick up on purchase or arrange delivery at their counter immediately. Then when we went to the delivery counter, it was closed.

I know this isn't the case with all Bunnings staff but we got some shockingly incompetent ones serving us.

Just need to find someone to install now.

  • FWIW - I was just commenting on MHI aircons yesterday, the one I experienced was very quiet, very powerful, I was impressed. I think it is important to remember, price is one thing (obviously a fairly big deal for OzBargainers!) but over-engineering is also important. Everyone's use-case is different, potentially, but overworking a small unit will always stretch it which can mean noise, and other issues such as reducing the life of the unit. Since aircon is about comfort, and we are in Australia, getting something built for the conditions can be more important than price alone. Just my $1.57…..two cents doesn't buy much these days :)

  • Harvey Norman said Installer required to provide 2 certificates after the installation is completed. One is Electrical certificate & another one is Refrigerated certificate. Anyone got both of them or just one, coz I got a quote from my installer and he said he can only provide me an Electrical certificate but not refrigerate one.
Anyone got a preferable Installer can refer to me would be appreciated in Melbourne area.

    • Why did they ask you for the certificates?

  • Could someone tell me the maximum KW capacity of the A/C before a separate circuit and fuse are needed in the switchboard box? Is it 1.5KW or 1.5HP A/C?
