hows this a deal when all the stall owners pay you to be there already?

    crap event and money waster:

be warned that you have to pay for entry and pay for tokens/crowns to spend at stalls with "restaurants/eateries" that are no better than some of those at the Night Noodle Markets (which you get free entry)

so how is this in any way a Bargain?

    • It's still $15 (25%) cheaper than normal. Don't neg the deal just because you don't like the product.

Sure, the event is expensive and the food isn't to everyone's "palate", but for people who eat out a lot, it's a good place to try lots of different food from popular restaurants.

      • I didn't neg the deal because I don't like the product. It is because I don't consider it in any way to be a bargain…

        • Where can I get a comparable product for cheaper? Don't say noodle markets or food court, because the food is not comparable.

          @damfrog:

          1. In previous years, they have offerred BOGOF ~ for no more than $30 you could get entry for 2

          2. I would say noodle markets is comparable to some of the stalls (did not say all)

          3. Good Food and Wine Show - they offer free entry codes

Further a bargain is not dependent on whether you can get a comparable product for cheaper, for example, all because a Cathay Flight is 10% cheaper and I cannot get a comparable product does not make that discounted flight a bargain. A bargain is when something bought or offered for sale much more cheaply than is usual or expected (emphasis on "much more").

@zenger: Ok. I take your point on the definition of a bargain when you consider the total spend. You end up saving $15 on this deal, which is 25% which normally is a decent discount, but I you'll end up spending at least $200 on food at this place (for 2 people) if you want to have a good time. $15 / $245 = 6%, which is not a "bargain".

For me, I was going to go anyway so it's better than nothing. I'll think of you while I'm there eating my $15 lamb testicles :)

        • @damfrog:

          Please do :)

And look I could be completely wrong, if the organisers arrange for a stellar line of up restaurants this year, it could be worth it…

or if Manu comes, becomes a $45 entry for a picture (reason why the missus went a few years ago)

        • @zenger: No, you're not wrong. I never leave the place thinking, "man, that was a good value". I treat it like a DIY Degustation. I've spent more on worse degustations - that's how I justify it to myself.

tokens also non refundable and they price the food so that you sometimes have a few tokens left byt have to spend it for the sake of spending on things u may not like.

why not just take cash/ card instead of the token gimmick? no deal!!

    Over priced,
    disappointing,
    better options at other locations

-sounds like a true Taste of Sydney

    • What other locations? I actually enjoy going to Taste of Sydney despite shelling out hundreds of dollars per visit, so if there are better cheaper places I'm definitely interested.

This event is completely rubbish. You pay to get in, and then pay exorbitant prices for tiny portions of dishes from pretentious restaurants, slopped up food court style. Then you have to find somewhere to eat, when there are no seats or tables anywhere.
