Looking for a Plex Player for TV with Remote Control

Hi guys, as the title says, I'm looking for the cheapest plex player I can get away with, to use on my TV.

Basic needs are: Wi-Fi, HDMI and a REMOTE.
Most of my media is 720p, so I don't need any sort of 4k stuff I reckon?
Also I have sort of a budget, basically a preowned Xbox 360 from EB games go's for about $130, and can also play plex, but I'd prefer something that didn't need xbox live connection and was smaller then the 360.

I'm also happy to go second hand if that helps, but I live in a country area so Gumtree doesn't really help me much.

I would appreciate any help!! Especially if there is some sort of sale ongoing.
Thanks!!

  • I've got a nexus player and I love it. Great interface and the remote has voice control (VC sadly doesn't work with netflix).

  • Roku 3

  • Raspberry pi 2 with rasplex.. It will use your TV remote over HDMI.. Assuming that your TV supports CEC

  • Apple TV 3?

Hang on, I confused myself, it's on the 4. But what about using a Chromecast and a tablet as your remote? Not great, but an affordable option.

  • You can get used ps3 and hide it out of the sight as the remote is bluetooth.

Personally, id just get an xbox off gumtree - youll get one for $80 or less of you are quick

  • Thanks guys, the nexus player and roku 3 are the two big ones I've been tossing in my mind lately, but been having trouble finding adequate pricing for them, it seems whenever I look into AUS stores, the prices increase more then what I would expect the typical conversation rate to be. Amazon is looking good so far, anyone tried any of the stick based options like fire tv?

Raspberry pi is another good idea, I will check out, see how difficult it would be to build fully, the Apple TV is surprisingly well priced as well considering apple. I also have an IPad so I will check it out as well.

I forgot that the PS3 had Bluetooth remote, I have a PS3 at home also, but it overheats a lot, might look for a cheap one online.
I'm quite surprised though as I feel both a PS3 and 360 have capabilities beyond most box players out there, and yet are still typically cheaper also :/.

  • NVidia TV Shield!

Cant recommend it enough.. Plus its 4K capable.

    • This interests me, its a bit more expensive but I think I can use emulators as well right? Which is interesting. Just the price.

      • Nvidia TV Shield has a Plex app as well as KODI (formerly XBMC)

I picked mine up from US Amazon and love it.

WDTV Live is redundant now, and Apple TV still sealed in the box.
