LG 13Z940-G 13.3" i5 Ultra PC, 8GB + Targus Backpack + Office 365 1yr $795 @ Computer Alliance

1940

First post let me know how I go, I think this link was only available from email newsletter I'm guessing it is not specific though. Been looking for a lightweight laptop, this isn't quite there for me but thought might be useful for some. Positives: very light for a 13" notebook, 8GB RAM. Negatives: weight means some sacrifice in battery life, 128GB SSD ain't huge and the cpu is only 4th gen but should still go alright.

From webpage:
Intel Core i5 4200U 1.6Ghz (Turbo up to 2.6Ghz) CPU, 13.3" IPS (1920 x 1080) Display, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 128GB SSD, Intel HD Graphics 4400, HDMI, No Optical Drive, Speakers, Intel WIDI Dual Band Wireless-N, RJ45 Mini to Standard Adapter, Bluetooth v4.0, 3 Cell 4000mAh Battery, 1.3MP WebCam, 2 x USB 3.0, 1 x Micro-USB 2.0, Micro-SD Card Reader, 0.98Kg, Windows 8.1 64bit, BONUS Microsoft Office 365 Personal 1 Year Subscription PN QQ2-00035, 16" Targus Terra Notebook Backpack Bag PN TSB226AU, ONLY WHILE STOCKS LAST!

      • No, I emailed them first. I had to checkout with the advertised price at $813 (including postage) and then customer service sent the invoice for $768 (including postage) with a Bpay biller code and reference to which I paid directly from my bank.

I didn't use PayPal cos that's 1% surcharge and credit cards are 2%. If you use one of these options, they might need to provide you with a discount code before checkout.

They're really prompt in replying. Otherwise give them a call.

        • Hi Trangy,

I called them up, and they say they are unable to separate the bag from the deal.
If you're okay with it, can you please send me a copy of your receipt, or your invoice number, so I can try to price match it?

          Thank you!

Ok so the invoice ID is 3562600. I was quoted the price of $750 by their internet sales team via emails. Once I agreed, a guy called Craig Bean processed the order.

Hope this works, otherwise I might have been lucky with this deal that they weren't supposed to give out!

        • @Trangy:

          It worked, thanks! :D

  • I can see that the price is $795, but how much are we saving by buying this???

    • I walked in to computer alliance yesterday to check out the laptop. The original price was $995. So you save $200 and get freebies. Honestly wasn't too impressed with the look of the laptop though.

LG makes laptop? Thanks for the enlightenment, I'll stick with Dell!

  • how relevant is it to buy interstate as far as service goes? spoke to LG and they don't have an international warranty. something which I may need as I will travel overseas shortly again in the next 12 months

    • The laptop literally has a sticker on it (next to the usual intel core whatever one) that says 'Int'l Warranty', and there was something in the box about it, so I don't know why they are saying it doesn't.

Does anyone knows how to open up this notebook to replace larger SSD drives? Please advise thanks.

    • Would also like to know this! Is it even possible?

      • is it possible, but need to work out how to open the case without damage something……

        • Anybody get it and upgrade ssd?

        • @bargrin: anyone here? I just bought this and really want to find out how to upgrade the ssd

        • @xiaowu58: probaly got to pry it open slowly and carefully, dont think any tried it yet?

Can ask what you think of the machine?

        • @bargrin:

The laptop hasn't arrived yet. Still waiting for delivery.

  • Just a heads up for anyone who bought this (WITH the Office 365 Personal) between 10th February 2016 and 22nd March 2016. You're entitled to a $25 cashback (in the form of a $25 Visa gift card) from Microsoft. https://www.microsoft.com.au/visagiftcard/

I just bought the LG 13Z940-G & Office 365 Personal for $770. Office 365 Personal sells for ~$50-60 on eBay, so $770 (-$50, -$25, -$70 [TRS]) = $625. Not bad a deal at all. Thanks OP!

    • How did you get it for $770

      • I called up and asked to have the backpack removed. They then sent me an amended invoice for $770
