Not bad but nowhere near this deal. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/930073

Yeah but that was a stellar deal.

    HP Envy

    Nope…

Note that 125u has horrendous power efficiency compared to the 226v in the last deal

FWIW, beware of the potential hinge design risk.

I've had one repaired outside of warranty after negotiating with HP support, and another from 2021 that also blew a hinge but decided not to take it further as we did get a good few years out of it.

    • +2

It's an HP, consumable product and you get what you pay for - good value but the risk of Hardware Pains.

If you want longevity, don't go for HP.

      • -1

Agree HP are fraught with issues

      • What would you recommend for longevity?

      • I've had HP printers, the build quality was good but holy shit it was so plagued with software issues it was unusable, had to throw it out

        HP: Henge Problems.

        • +1

          Stone Henge?

      • Consumer HP is bad, Enterprise is really good I find.

    • It's really sad when companies do this, they make the person post and make it look worse for themselves. It also is scummy when you have to (productively) argue the point to get something that should just be covered anyway.

    • I had hinge issues with an HP convertible laptop in 2017 or so. Interesting that it still seems to be a problem

    • +1

This sort of thing is prevalent across all sorts of laptops from all kinds of manufacturers.

I had an ASUS Zenbook UX303 from around 2014 and after a year the hinge broke. I pulled it open and found that the top cover used heat set inserts embedded into plastic, and the plastic had shattered as it couldn't handle the torque of the hinge.

My sister has an MSI Vector GP66 gaming laptop and a very similar issue has happened, and Scalptec are digging their heels on providing an RMA for what is a fatal design flaw in a laptop that's only a bit over 2 years old.

People wonder why enterprise gear costs more - this is usually why.

  • not worth for 16”

Would this be good for year 11 studying for ATARS?

    • Bought one. Thanks op.

  • Missed the epic deal last week and has been eyeing this since then which has been at $1124 (-20%) up until today

At $800 I might just bite

    A 32gb will be a great deal

    • A 64GB would be a better deal

      • with where current RAM pricing is going 64gb will cost the same as this whole laptop soon…

        96GB or GTFO

        • One million dollars…….

    40.6 cm (16") diagonal, WUXGA (1920 x 1200), multitouch-enabled, IPS, edge-to-edge glass, micro-edge, 300 nits, 62.5% sRGB

    • +1

62.5% sRGB? Yeah nah no thanks.

      • Yeah, that's roughly 45% NTSC. It's a nice laptop with a low end display.

  • Ended

  • Ok, got it today. Nifty "little" thing. Any suggestion what sleeve/case/backpack that is good in price and recommended? For daughter. Also with the pen as she would like to draw. Go third party mpp 2.0 or go with HP.
