  • anyone know how good these really are?

    eg quality, contrast.. inputs, USB?

nice first post by the way.

Brauhn usually use Samsung Panels and have been very good for Picture Quality and Contrast.
with Aldi's 60 Day Change of mind policy and the 2 year warranty @ this price, you really can't go wrong.

      • I have a smaller size Bauhn model and its advertised as a Samsung panel on the box as a part of its marketing. This one doesn't say which panel is used though (Possible that Samsung doesn't want others to leverage its' brand if it is one).

    • a mate bought one of these (assuming they are they same) last time around at $999 and I am quite impressed by it.

      • I believe the previous model for $999 is the 100Hz unit, this appears to be slightly updated.

        • correct.

need an aldi in Perth :(

    • aldi should open up in Perth I agree, although i dont understand why they wont, however i moved up to ACT from SYD and am happy to see Aldi here!

    • agreed

  • Great price, good warranty and fairly reputable brand (Whirlpool seems to give them a good rep).

I bought 2 of these last time, the 100hz $999 model.
While the picture quality was excellent on both of them. One has issues with displaying VGA at 1080p, and the other after about 4 months develop major issues with display anything through HDMI.

Buying again, I would personally avoid them. I am trying to go through the warranty process now.

    • Thanks for sharing and do let us know how the warranty process goes.

I bought 2 of the 100hz $999 models as well. Mine are working great. One is set up in the lounge room and the other is strickly for the PS3, X360 & Wii.

Cons: They are slow to turn on. They have a slight buzzing sound when you turn the TV on stand by (lasts 5 to 10 seconds). They won't do 1:1 pixel mapping though HDMI to PC, only supports 1:1 with VGA to PC. There is black light bleeding in the top right and left corners when there is no active signal but this goes when it's on station.

I find the picture quality to be really good. They are good for gaming. I don't regret buying them but if I was in the market today I would consider a brand name TV because there's not much differnce in price.

  • no aldi in TAS

  • 200Hz!! You only need 100Hz for 3D-TV with active glasses.
    200 should give real close-up flicker-free 3D (ie stereoscopic).
Is this real 200Hz input or some BS interpolated internal fudge?

    • internal fudge???

    • i thought you needed 120Hz, 60 for each eye

      • 120Hz in the US, for NTSC.
here we normally use 25 fps, (after de-interlacing if needed)
But alternating eyes at 25 Hz would cause horrible flicker, so you need to show each frame at least twice.
Similar to the CRT flicker problem that was solved by interlacing.

I bought one of these last year (sale date May 14)….was a good TV, but have since sold it, and now have a 52" Bravia.

The only thing the Bauhn couldn't do last year was pixel match 1:1. Lets hope the new one can.

Here's what the OSD looked like on the old one:

I bought one of these just under 6months ago for about $799… It's 100hz 32inch model, want something bigger though.

    Problems I have with it?

    1. The remote is shocking at the best of times, doesn't respond very well
    2. Changing channels is slow esp. DTV.
    3. Changing inputs requires you to cycle through all existing inputs first, no easy way to select a designated input.
    4. No Digital Optical port, has component and coaxial, but I prefer optical as I have many of these cables.
    5. When you are standing alongside the tv, you cannot see the picture, I'd imagine most lcd's are like this? I have plasmas so this isn't an issue on them.
    6. Software is sluggish and hard to read info about program unless you have 20/20 vision.

Otherwise, great picture quality, would love to sell this one if anyone is interested.. $700.

so u wanna sell the 32" one for 700 or this 42" one? did u see jb is selling samsung 32" for $690?

      • how about vivo similar to aldi one for $499 at dick smith, http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/4ba2f58f0108741…

my advice is don't buy cheap tv coz their resell value is not good at all.

      • Yes it is the 32".

        Happy to beat that price…

How about $680? The tv is brand spanking new. I just want a bigger tv that's all as the room is quite large.

        • I sold my 42" Bauhn for ~$800 back in october…took a $200 hit for 6 months use, however, prices plummeted in that time….if I had bought a Sony 42" for $2200 (at the same time I bought the $999 Bauhn), I would have lost a heck of a lot more!

    • We bought one for fun and in response to your points.

      1. The remote feels a bit light but works great. Responds fine
      2. No difference (if anything faster) than my HD set-top-box I was using with my previous TV
      3. There is a menu now which you can chose which input you want. No cycling any more
      4. Not sure about this one. Will have to check
      5. I was standing almost at 180deg from the TV and could see the picture fine.
      6. Menu is VERY clear and easy to understand. Quite quick too. The EPG works brilliantly.

Overall a great TV for the price.

  • I purchased a 46" Bauhn 100Hz 1080p LCD for $999 from Aldi during the Top Ryde store opening sale. That was about 6 weeks ago, and so far so good. I've kept my dockets and packaging in good nick just in case I need to take them up on their 60 Day guarantee.
Start time is pretty sluggish, and the UI is a bit 'Hello Kitty" in style, but otherwise this unit meets my needs. Good picture, reasonable energy efficiency and plenty of connectivity options make it a good low-cost option. Half the price of the equivalent Sony Bravia model is pretty compelling.
