  • Not sure about this one, but the 42'' i bought last time was excellent.

  • 42" was 999 and this is 799… i say boycott aldi and picket em to bring back the 42" which so many people missed out on… http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/12441

having said that, it is a good price for a 32in so i am forced to give a positive… sighs (really wanted that damn 42in telly!)

  • its too hard to give them a positive when its such a limited stock…. unless they are going to have a decent supply its almost neg! I mean look what happens to catchoftheday and they have hundreds.

here you go there early wait at the store and still dont manage to snag one.

ohh and it would want to have more than just 2 hdmi inputs… how do i plug my DVD player, games console and home theater, satellite receiver, VCR at the same time without buying a switch box?

ok maybe not vcr but two inputs is very limiting for a tv.

I agree, if there was 4 HDMI inputs this would be a really good buy.

Nonetheless, its really cheap for 100Hz

    • The same time last year Aldi also sold a 32" Bauhn for $899. They didn't sell quickly, in fact a month later my local Aldi reduced the price to $699. Last years model was 1080p, but not 100Hz, as this one is.

Of course that isn't necessarily going to be the same situation this year….so it would still pay to get to your local aldi before opening just in case!

Two months ago I lined up at Aldi at 8:10am to secure TV number 4 of only 6 42" TVs at my local store, I can say the build quality and picture quality of these units is excellent.

    • VCR into HDMI???

      • No you can't VCR to HDMI, but the Bauhn's also has standard analogue inputs for your vcr.

This video of the Bauhn 42" model will give you an idea of what the on screen display will be like on the 32" model. The previous models have all used the same basic layout.

      • I think you'll find that VCR into HDMI was included by wisc tongue-in-cheek…

It's simple, people who have a lot of devices they want to connect via HDMI are usually not looking to buy a budget TV with only 2 HDMI inputs

  • As great a bargain this is, i'm going to wait till CostCo opens. I suspect they'll have a big door buster opening sale.

    • … for those who live in Melbourne (thankfully - that means me - woohoo!). I'll be doing the exact same thing. :)

  • like Wezza, I will wait 2 weeks for Costco's grand opening.

I don't need the TV immediately yet.

Costco is an exclusive wholesale cash and carry membership warehouse club. Membership is required.
Gold Star Membership ($60 annually) is available for individuals who do not qualify for a Business Membership.
    Business Membership ($55 annually)…

It sounds a bit like Campbells Cash and Carry, but with "public" membership.

CostCo's first store is in Melbourne, but what about other capital cities, are they currently in production/preperation, or is there no announced plans as yet?

This Aldi deal looks to be great. You only need 2 HDMI inputs, cause you can plug in other devices into your DVD recorder, cause if it's like mine, it has 2 or 3 RCA/S-Video inputs. Then you can view your console or VCR through the DVD recorder. Just have your DVD recorder and PVR plugged into the HDMI TV ports.

There's one planned for Sydney… not exactly sure where. I guess once these two are built, and if they are successful… you can expect many more. :)

        they're looking at auburn

        • Yeah I can confirm they are looking at Auburn near the bunnings site. Apparently they went over the local council and straight to the state for permission. Not sure how much progress has been made.

          • @Kranbone: http://www.costco.com.au/Auburn/
            "Costco in Auburn

Costco is seeking to establish its first Costco Wholesale in NSW and to accommodate the Australian Head Office at 15-21 Parramatta Road, Auburn.

The Parramatta road site is currently used by Linfox and BevChain as a transport distribution centre for beverages. An aerial photo of the site is illustrated below:"

They also will have strange opening hours:
            "Trading Hours:
            Business Members
            Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

            All Members
            Monday – Friday, 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
            Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
            Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m."
Not good if you want to go after dropping kids off to school say (have to wait until 11am maybe). They are opening at 8am on the very first opening day at Docklands.

          • @Kranbone: http://www.costco.com.au/Auburn/:
"The development of Costco Wholesale at 15-21 Parramatta Road has been declared a “Major Project” by the NSW Minister for Planning. A Concept Plan and a Project Application is currently being prepared and will be submitted to the NSW Department of Planning for assessment."

            • @Zero Sydney: Yeah so it seems they went straight to the state over the local council. In some ways it's a good thing for the area but I wonder about the smaller shops, and how they will compete.

  • A week ago i picked myself up a Samsung LA55B650 (149cm) for $3697 ( delivered 100km ) from JB-Hi-Fi while they had the 15% off LCD and Plasma.. Also Just made it in time for the free 22" LCD that just got shipped out today! according to the promotion site.

Almost got a 55" LED (UA55B6000) but it had a 199 person waiting list haha!! lol and the fact it didn’t come with wireless or Ethernet was a deal breaker. i'm streaming xvid files from my PC with the LA55B650 works great!

When i went into Aldi for the 42" deal i was told that the sets had been sold out but they could put me on list ( they were expected more in the next day! )

I declined as i wasnt that interested in a Big TV at the time. But Aldi North Sydney did provide an alternative to those who missed out on the in stock TV's big plus!

  • I want a good price on an LED set, they should be heaps more power efficient and they also offer laser quality viewing with greater color range than plasma or LCD.

Edit: Actually, LED is not the tech I was thinking about… that is just the back-lighting. I mean the newer laser tech which should have been in the marketplace by now (I don't think they actually are yet), but Sony apparently bought the rights and have either canned it or slowed it down.

  • no brand!

    • The brand appears to be Bauhn.

  • affinity.. umm Laser tech?? do you mean OLED?

The next step from plasma and LCD is OLED! ( organic light emitting diode ) "FULL STOP!

Samsung and sony already have OLED displays that are in post production prototype stages but will be the natural replacement from LCD and Plasma! ( LCD with LED back lighting is a stepping stone! )

  • Is this Bauhn TV compatible with Blu Ray Dvds? Any Comments?
