    awesome price

When the next cheapest 42" LCD is above $1499 and isn't 100Hz, then this is a bargain.

Be careful though, 100Hz actually refers to how many times the image is cycled per second and does not directly relate to the motion. The TV needs a processor that can create frames that don't exist to remove jitter and judder. The two (image processor/100Hz) are not mutually exclusive.

  • this indeed looks like an awesome price.

Need to view more of the specifications though, like what sort of inputs (HDMI?) and stuff like that …

  • +1

    Great price.
The Twin HD Tuner 320GB PVR for $299 isn't bad either.

    Live Long and Prosper,
    Jean-Luc.

    • That's the old model aldi tv. Different response time?

Awesome price for this telly.. I'm keen :)

    • from ALDI website, why the response time is different?…

      $ 999 *
      Built-in Full HD tuner
      100Hz with motion correction
      1920 x 1080 panel resolution
      3.5 star energy rating
Less than 1W standby power consumption
      4ms response time
      2 year in home warranty

    • Seems like different specs. Aldi website says 4ms response. I wonder if the contrast ratio in your posted specs are wrong as well ?

    • Those specs are for the old model. New model has better response time, is 100hz and probably has better contrast ratio. Although no way to find out until you buy.

    • This is for the old Model look below for the correct uptodate specs

my friend bought one last year from ALDI, the price is about $1300, working fine and looks good, very good bargin!

  • Ah crap I was in the market for one and picked up a Samsung LA40A450 at Myer for $1160 plus double shopping credits about 2 weeks ago? And now I see this.. although I'm in WA and there's no Aldi here, so there wouldn't have been any way to get one, so that makes me feel a little better. Crazy specs for the price though! And I wonder what this 'newer' model's contrast ratio is, because 2000:1 is pretty low, though you get what you pay for.

I'm quite happy with mine, but generally, grr. :)

  • +1

my stimulus package is going toward this fo sho

  • i suggest you get to your shop early on thursday because there will no doubt be a line for these.. me included

    • Enjoy your 168 hour wait till NEXT Thursday!

    • emm~~~ Last year when ALDI selling the same TV, my friend went to the shop one hour before they open and already have 4-5 people waiting there, after he checked out only two left. so be hurry….

  • to be honest lads you should take note of the contrast ratio, if those specs posted above are indeed correct than a 2000:1 contrast ratio on a 42" is gonna be a little blocky looking when running full hd from lets say a PS3 game or bluray movie, cheap tv indeed but if you are looking for quality over quantity than you maybe better off paying a little more for something else

the tv still gets a + from me for being 42" and less than a $1000 though

  • good deal!! considering it was 1299 last year.

  • Great deal, I've already got a 50" plasma in my loungeroom and very tempted to get this for my bedroom for which it'd be great. But money is a little tight right now I'm going to have to pass sadly… Meeting the mortgage repayments is probably more important :)

  • +1

This is nice. I looked a the cheap HD set at JB, $999 for 1024x768, called it HD.

This one is true HD with 1080 res. I will grab one of these if I can.

    • +2

I know the ones your talking about at JB Hifi … "Soniq" rubbish that is extremely poor quality, with short warranties (and more than likely the warranty claims are directly through the distributor who you can't track down).

With two year warranty it would be great to tie me over until I can afford a Sony or Samsung.
(Hopefully the price may have dropped by then)

Aldi, please come to WA and provide some competition over here.

  • When will Aldi come to Adelaide… Anyone know?

    • +5

Why would anyone want to go to Adelaide? :D

      • Coz we're the "Festival State" :p

        • +4

you keep your festivals, we keep our cheap stores :D

          • @[Deactivated]: yeah we, south australians, are severely disadvantaged compare to eastern states.

            • +3

@Foma2: Don't forget us Western Australians.. we don't even get starbucks. :( Or running water.

              • -1

                @ranma: Lol. You poor saps!

              • +1

@ranma: You say the like it's a bad thing (the Starbucks bit!)

  • +3

Just checked with Aldi and the contrast ratio is 4000:1. Will try to get one next week…

    • How good does this contrast ration compare with the popular LCD TV in the market.

  • +1

4000:1 is a respectable ratio, i say get it if you're in the market for a tv, i just bought a bravia a couple weeks back so i'm good

  • C'mon Tyagi, where's the crazy Tyagi counter-offer?

    • you mean kogan ?? (you did say crazy…)

I Rang ALDI and Got the Specs FAXED to me

    Enjoy, Robert

  • If i buy, do they deliver or do i have to take with me? anyone know?

    • You'll have to take it with you. Aldi don't deliver AFAIK.

    • ALDI do not deliver, they don't even put your shopping in a bag for you. Just throw it to the side and you need to scramble to put it all somewhere fast :)

i love aldi though. gonna try and get this TV .

  • Do we have to approach the Aldi store managers to get the TV when the store opens? Never purchased such a big item from Aldi before.

I'm thinking of using Credit Card but IRC its a 2% surchage on CC?

  • Hey guys,

    Is this really worth buying?
Been looking for a tv for while now and it seems like alot of the above comments are giving this a green light!

I'm not a techie, don't understand the specs above, but i'm looking for a tv that i can eventually plug a ps3 in to fully ultilise the blue rays and also hook up with my laptop to watch some movies…

  • Would the box fit into the backseat or the boot of a corolla?

    • Doubt it… I recently bought a 40 inch Samsung LCD, and it barely fit in my '86 Mazda 626.. I was considering a 42 inch LG at the time, I'm quite glad I didn't go with it because there's no way it would've fit. Best to call Aldi and find out the measurements of the box too though.

      • +1

        Carton (separately stand) 1165x310x851 (mm)

    • Hatchback should be ok but sedan I doubt it.

      • I think my Avalon should be big enough.

        • You sure? Its a sedan. Box measurements are above so go grab a tape measure and see how you go.

          Hope it fits!

          • @AntMan76: Actually with them dimensions posted it should fit ok across the back seats.

            • +1

@zhenjie: Just remember the doors don't open 90 degrees so its not always that simple. Had issues with other items that would fit, as far as size was concerned, but access to get the item into that space was the issue.

seems like a good deal if you want to set up a tent a few hours earlier and the staff don't reserve most of them for family and friends, obviously need to go with a big car

  • Is anyone else worried about the contrast ratio only being 4000:1 ? considering most new LCD's are like 50,000:1 …

    • 50,000:1 would be the dynamic contast ratio, which isn't really the 'true' ratio.

  • A few members over at Whirlpool have been able to pick up these units today, before the actual sale. Early reviews seem to suggest the unit is good, though there are complaints of a grainy picture image from one user (might just be a case of incorrect picture setup).

See from this post onwards: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1196232&p…

  • Apparently 20 people lining up at one Aldi store.

  • 7 units at Dural for 9 in queue. staff member came out and handed out tickets to first 7 in queue.

  • LOL @ some of the fights in the Doncaster store. LOL @ the people trying to fit their TV's into their cars.

  • anyone failed to fit it in their car yet?

  • Horray, I bought one after waiting for 1/2 hour. There were 1 full pallet, about 14 units in Bankstown Centro - all gone in a few minutes.
    Thanks Dansor.

  • Tempted to buy one, but finally went to the Adidas sale in Springvale instead, very crowded, fought to get some shoes and bags.

  • +1

woooot got one! about 50 people was in line and was only 8 units. A lot of people missed out and was yelling at the manger when i was happily walking away with my tv :)

ONE HD on this tv looks AMAZING even better than my bravia 46inch 50hz Full HD W series I will post pics on whirlpool.

Also test with vga input from my msi wind and was able to get 1920x1080 res via VGA again AMAZING!!!!!

    woooot

  • I got there at 830… was 5th in line.. Was lucky enough to get 2.. :)

But many people missed out.. There were 12 units

    • why da f u get 2 ffs!

      ebay?

      • Needed one for the Folkes.. Im a good son .. :)

        • That was pretty lucky! It was restricted to one per person at the store I went to.

          • @RandomNinja: Yeah i wasnt trying to be greedy.. Had the GF along for the ride so she dragged one out of the shop for me…

  • I am very happy with mine!!

  • Went to a smaller Aldi an hour before opening, 6th in line so managed to snaffle one. They only had 10 units, the store manager gave out tix to the first 7ppl and the last 3 units were free for all!

    Had a few cranky people…

just in case someone is still following this deal, don't bother dashing to an aldi store. The TV is sold out from the CBD to woop woop and eveywhere in between. I personally visited nearly 20 stores from 9am onwards hoping there might be one left at the little ones - not the case. Oh well good on those who nabbed an awesome bargain.

  • I confirm ccrap comment: tv sold out in st kilda :(

  • +1

Just bought a 42FD2 for $999 from my local ALDI, manufacturing date July 2009. very happy. it is going to be a father's day present for my father in law.
