        • Who would buy holes?

        • @Ploix: Someone with a recently deceased relative I guess…

        • @steinmeister: golf! 18 holes for $x

Those interested in a steel link one can buy the leather one for $395 and a third-party 316L metal band for about US$29.
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HOCO-Stainless-Steel-Strap-Buckle…

When it comes time to sell, you can sell it with a nice unused leather strap.

want the black face but the premium to pay for it is zomg -_-

      • +1

I decided to go with silver to hide scratches better. My last two watches were black, scratches and dints were quite visible.

        • +1

I bought the silver link during the last eBay 20%. Kinda had regrets since I like the black but they weren't stocking then. Since then I've seen a few black watches with tons of scratches. No buyers remorse now!

        • @crazycs:

Could always use something like plasti dip to change the colour.

        • @sshazam:

          link? or example?

        • @sshazam: You definitely can't plasti-dip a watch band, unless you don't mind the links getting stuck together!

      • Black face?

        • is that a serious question?

        • @CVonC:
Oh, you meant black case. The face can be whatever colour you want it to be.

        • @psyren89:

          Bezel and band yeah ><

    • +1

You can get it cheaper on aliexpress. It's about $32aud. Received mine recently and it is authentic and the quality is great.

I got my huawei watch from wireless1. Can't fault them at all. First watch they sent was lost in the mail, and they promptly sent a replacement.

      • I saw it for US$20ish on aliexpress but wasn't sure about its authenticity as everyone else was charging around US$29. There are cheap lookalikes so I was worried I would just receive one of those in a nice Hoco box along with the tools.

That said, the cheap lookalikes might be perfectly fine! Maybe someone can try it out.

Think Huawei is related to Arsenal Football Club. Probably explains the code

    • +3

Nah it's cause the code was negotiated by the OP, TightArse.

    Need deal for LG G4

  • Can anyone comment on the watch when paired with an iphone?

    • +11

Yup, anyone can. The iPhone won't prevent the wearer from commenting on anything when paired with the watch.

      (sorry :)

      • +1

haha well played sir, well played

      • +4

I hope you're apologising for opening a bracket but never closing it.

    • Sure! The watch let's you know you have a notification and then you do everything that you would have done with the if you weren't wearing the watch.

So for $395 you get a redundant notification system which adds a step to every notification that you check.

      Worth it!

  • Thanks, I was waiting for a deal on the W1.

  • Silver Mesh is to die for.. must resist!! Waiting for the newer LTE models this year.. arrghh..

    • I'm just waiting for there to be an Android watch out that can do phone calls. Huawei Watch is SUPPOSED to have a speaker, but Google seems to have abandoned Android Wear so we don't know if the update is coming or not.

      • I was quite content to buy the LG Urbane 2 with LTE last year.. but got scrapped upon release.. disappointed at that and if you wanna phone calls, I suppose there's always VOIP.. as long as you got data without being tethered 10m to your phone (yes, you can WIFI, but it doesnt work very well).

      • but Google seems to have abandoned Android Wear so we don't know if the update is coming or not.

What makes you say they've abandoned Android Wear?

The speaker was reported to work in a test built in December.

And it's now listed on the Play Store as having a speaker for phone calls.

        Built-in speaker
Take and make phone calls using the watch speaker and hear an alarm or audio message through supported apps.

        • I said they've abandoned Wear because when the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE (actual name!) was withdrawn from sale, they never released the Marshmallow update for any other devices either. And regardless of if it says that on the Play Store, you can't use it yet.

        • @MrMcHairyHead:
I was responding to your comment saying:

so we don't know if the update is coming or not.

The feature is now listed on the official site, so yes, the update is coming.

If you think Google has abandoned Android Wear simply because Marshmallow hasn't been released yet, … well, ok then, don't buy any Android Wear watches?

        • @eug:

well, ok then, don't buy any Android Wear watches?

lol well maybe he wants to go Tizen with Samsung ><

        • -7

Oh my! I truly thought Google had reached peak looking-like-an-idiot-using-a-computer with the recent Google Glass product.

But no, it appears that nerds don't mind looking like a complete idiot talking to a watch. Actually that's a bit unfair, it's actually just the nerds who swallow Boogle's Kool-Aid.

Naturally no one else will want to look like an idiot for the purpose of Boogle spying on them so it will fail.

"Oh my! Who would want to look like an idiot walking around town talking into a plastic box held next to their heads?"

        • Haha, best news ive heard all week. Im excited!

      • +2

I believe they have just announced the release

        http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/02/android-wear-gets-wid…

        • Yeah I just saw that. Was posted literally today! (I'll note, though, that it still isn't actually out yet, nor have they set a specific release date, and we don't know what call quality is like.)

      • +1

They came out with a blogpost yesterday saying Marshmallow will come in the next few weeks, shouldn't be too long till you can make calls.

        http://officialandroid.blogspot.com.au/2016/02/android-wear-…

        • +1

Cool. But I'd definitely still wait for reviews before purchasing. For all we know the call support could be awful. It might be the worst speaker in the world.

        • +1

          @MrMcHairyHead:

It might be the worst speaker in the world.

Sounds pretty decent to me. It's what you'd probably expect from a watch.

  • Looks like the Silver Steel link is still cheaper here at $499 delivered - http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/Huawei-Smart-Watc… but I really link the Silver mesh.

Thanks OP, I was just looking at these this morning.

    • Grey import though.

      • Ahh, okay. Just saw the website addy and the free shipping to Oz Metro & assumed it was an Oz shop. Cheers

  • What a nice watch this is~

  • +1

Waiting for the watch to go below $300 then ill jump on it

    • +4

That would be a waste of $300.
      :)

      • You dont think the w1 is worth it?

        • +4

No, I think jumping on a $300 watch would be a waste.

          (sorry. ;)

        • @eug: hahaha slow day for me

      • Great deal! But….

I am a geek myself and I am excited at things which are either wireless or Bluetooth (geeks will know what I talked about). I am more generous on my gadget spending than any other of mine. However, I just can't justify spending $400 on a smart watch which, let's face it, is not THAT smart after all….it needs to be much more usable (a lot less compromise) and functional (do fair bit more) for the price it asks.

Smart watch somehow reminds me the very first batch of Bluetooth earphone (remember Ericsson?), they were awfully expensive for what it was back in the day. Is it a very nice thing to have? Yes, absolutely, but should you get it? Well…. do you have enough dough in the pocket?

        • Smartwatches, just like smartphones, don't appeal to everybody. Not everyone would find a smartwatch useful, just like how not everyone cares about smartphones.

It totally depends on your needs and requirements. What you don't find useful could be extremely useful to someone else. Not everyone lives their lives exactly the way you do.

So the answer to "should you get it?" really should be "it depends on whether or not you find it useful".

  • The Talkband B2 has terrible reviews.

    • +1

i have one and am quite happy for my needs

-not missing calls as I always feel the call notification vibration on my wrist
-easy access to bluetooth headset (quicker and easier than pulling phone out of pocket)

That said, due to lack of features, I would not call it a smart watch and the firmware updates so far have failed to offer the improvements I was hoping for (e.g. text / other notifications).

You have to charge it every day or 2, but even 10-20min on the charger is enough to keep it going fo the day so I don't find this too inconvenient.

      • Cool thanks for the thoughts.

  • Still think 'smart' watches are a silly idea. However, this is the nicest looking one I have seen and the only I would consider buying.
