Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Type Cover $60 @ JB Hi-Fi

590

Seems like clearance stock since the new keyboard is backwards compatible. Only for black/purple models though. Would grab one myself but I've just got the standard Surface 3 :(

    I think that is cheapest.

Surface pro 4 type cover is much better than this but for this price maybe its better to get surface pro 3 type cover.

You could buy 3 & have 2 backups + $20 to spare for many peanuts

      • $5 extra spent actually. I am member of ozbargain community and if I buy sp4 type cover, I would buy from harveynorman with $25 voucher.:)

        I got Sp4 typecover for $153 in December($178 discount and -$25).

      • What? Is the new type cover $320??? (or am I just retarded at maths)

If so, that is ridiculous. I've got a SP3 and SP3 type cover. Got a good deal on ebay last year ($1100 for the i5 128gb and cover)

        • Deal is $60 x 3 = $180…

        • @backslashio:

          Plus 2 back ups (120) and an extra 20, = 320

        • @hedonistic:

          Wut? These are $60 each..times that by 3 (1 + 2 spares) that equals $180..

        • @hedonistic:
No I was saying in reference to a Surface Pro 4 type cover for $200…

        • @XeKToReX: OHHH I thought he meant to buy 3 PLUS 2 back ups, not one plus two back ups (totalling 3). My mistake.

Great price, I would have snapped it up but like you I just got my new surface 3…loving it so far.

    • Same, I got mine last week! Trying to survive with only the pen atm

I wouldn't jump on this one, personally. I bought the newer keyboard for my SP3 and definitely think it's worth the upgrade from this older one. The trackpad and keys feel more solid and comfortable for typing longer documents. That said, great price.

    • Obviously it is much better but it is $140 more. If it was the standard $180 vs $200 I'd recommend the newest one

      • Yeah you're right I suppose, just throwing in a personal experience comparing the two. It is a great price.

    • Agree with you there. The surface pro 3 keyboard blows chunks. Very poor tactile response from the keys.

  • Would this keyboard compatible to my Surface Pro (1st Generation)?

    • Yeap it works. It looks bit silly though.

I am currently using it to edit this bit right now (thought it might be more symbolic, somehow). That said, the bottom bit of trackpad sticks out when you close it and the folding mechanism on the keyboard (the one that allows it to take up less space on desk and helps with writing on your lap), don't seem to work.

    • The connectors would probably fit & work but the cover itself would look weird

  • Almost had an heart attack because few days ago ordered the Surface 3 type cover for $150 from Microsoft :P

Although I have a compatible 3rd party Surface 3 keyboard which is excellent for typing (better feel than my Samsung Ativ 9 laptops keyboard), but the mousepad is not the best but it works and does its job so no big complaints.

Will be selling my 2nd hand Surface 3 keyboard next week to subsidise the Type Cover purchase :)

    • which 3rd party keyboard do you use with your S3? about to buy original one but 150 hurts.

      • I got this one:

        http://www.dx.com/p/mini-smile-bluetooth-v3-0-64-key-keyboar…

It is great to type and very responsive so no complaints there, but the mousepad is average.

This sticks well to the Surface with the magnets and if you have a leather flip case you can still close it with the keyboard attached. So I would say this is well worth the $50 :)

        • I bought this same one from eBay and then refunded it (for a Surface 3 though - not a pro). It was okay but only that. I personally think the original is definitely better. Worth $100 extra? Probably.

          My issues with this keyboard:

          • No F1-F12 keys (even though it said it had it on the packaging)
          • Touchpad is of extremely poor quality - the left-click sometimes gets physically "stuck" in the hole that it sits in if you press it at certain angles (not unusual angles either - through normal usage).
          • Does not trigger auto-sleep and auto-wake when closing and opening the lid (I think? Correct me if I'm wrong)
          • Keys are pretty small
          • Trackpad is small
          • Two-finger scrolling feels stuttering

But as datafellows mentions, typing is actually ok on it.

This was the only 3rd party keyboard for the Surface 3 I could find, but imo, the original is probably worth the extra money.

        • @illumination:

Yeah, kind of agree with you. No F keys, I did not even notice until you said it :D

Touchpad for me was a disappointment. It does its job, but… eh…

I think this one will go sleep, I have had it on for few days and still has juice. But it could be that the battery life is good and no battery is used if no keys are pressed?

Keys are small as the Surface 3 is small :) For me this did not prove a problem, I type as fast and well as with my regular laptop.

As I said, I bought the Type cover for $150 and I guess it is worth the extra (barely), but when it was $180 I just could not justify myself to fork out that much more money :) I got a Pendo Bluetooth keyboard for $10 for gods sakes!

  • Wish this was red

Just got one, god bless, will add 12 months to your natural life.

  • I just jumped on the Microsoft store chat and they confirmed that this will work with Gen 1 & 2 surface pro's but is slightly larger than the earlier generation tablets so will look a little funny when closed. Thanks heaps just purchased a purple one.

    • All keyboards from surface rt 1,2, surface 3, surface pro 1,2,3 and 4 should work with any of these devices.
Finger print sensor from sp4 type cover might be not compatible with some devices but it was never released in Australia.

So if you have surface keyboard, it will work on any surface device except on surface book.

  • Not tempted at all because I paid mine for $30 when Microsoft had a $100 voucher when purchasing Surface Pro 3. Thank god I paid $30 only because I hate the touch pad. I ended up using BT mouse and keyboard.

  • I remember last time I went to the Sydney Microsoft Store some guy was able to swap his existing keyboard cover for his SP3 for a newer one and only had to pay an extra $20. Don't know how well that would hold up though.

  • Bought two of these from JB's Leichhardt store today.
Was able to get one in purple and the other one in red for $60 each (down from the original price $179.99)
Check with your local store to see if there are any other colours available.

  • I would personally get a SP4 Type Cover, the quality of the keyboard and touchpad are just that much better compared to the 3's, plus it is backwards compatible with the Surface (Pro) 3

  • Picked one up for myself despite having a Surface 3, these photos shows how much it overlaps

  • Just bought one, my cyan cover is pretty gross. Great price!!! Totally better value for money than the pro 4 keyboard….even though it's a much better keyboard.
