  • What are the pros and cons of buying a metal strap or a leather/some other fabric strap?

    • A bad metal strap pinches and pulls hairs. I prefer metal. Fabric or leather to me is disposable, you need to replace them once they wear out and collect sweat. I like how once the metal band is adjusted it comes on an off easily.

    • Metal is harder wearing. A metal strap won't fray, or smell of old sweat, or fall apart from too much UV.

However, it can wear on other things. My old laptop had a little burr across the front edge where my watch would hit it. You can still get this with a large metal buckle, but less than with an all-metal band. People also complain about the difficulty of resizing a metal band, which can be a problem if your writs tends to swell in the heat. It will come with extra pieces, but it's not the sort of thing you want to do often.

Expansion-type metal bands are known for catching arm hairs (you might think you don't have much until you try one).

Mesh watch bands are a hybrid between leather/fabric and metal. More flexible and adjustable, but hard wearing. I think they don't look as nice as either a leather or metal band, but each to their own.

      • You need to find a good jeweler. Mine charges $5 to do it.

Also with $5 worth of ebay tools you can do it yourself.

        • +1

To resize the band? Mine can be resized with a pin, I don't need any fancy tools. But some people find their wrists change size every day, if they make the band comfortable for a hot day, it's too loose on a cold one. It's too annoying for them to go adding and removing links every day.

        • I delink/shorten and change bands with a ebay kit, it's paid for itself already :)

  • I have an eco-drive. It's a great watch - never need to change the batteries.

    • Same - they are great watches!

  • I have a citizen with the same band. The band is terrible and uncomfortable.

Switched out to nato straps and they are WAAAAAAY more comfy.

    • I got an eco-drive too but different model with leather strap. can this be also changed to a nato strap?

  • Need a watch with metal bands
What do you guys think about this one?

    • Depends what style you like, if all you want is a watch with a bracelet, there are lots of cheaper options.
I would buy the classic Seiko Automatic SKX007K2 - Approx AUD$218.00 Delivered after the code is applied.

      • wow that is a nice looking watch and very affordable.
but kind of torn due to Eco-drive technology!

        • The Seiko is an automatic watch, it works on movement, no batteries.
But if you don't wear it often then it stops running after about a day.
It will last longer than the rechargeable battery in the Citizen.

If you don't have a credit card with no international transaction fees then it's probably cheaper to buy it here in AUD -
Seiko SKX007K2 $220.50 Delivered after code is applied.

    • Wait they have similar styles on special on there website for half the price.

    • I have this one

  • Thanks picked one of these up.

  • In my opinion, you should never buy a good (great) watch like the eco-drives with a mineral glass. By it's very design the watch is supposed to last for years without having to replace the battery. It's not a disposable watch that you keep for 6 months then throw in the bottom of the drawer when the battery stops.

Without a sapphire crystal, the face will be marked and scratched within months of normal wear.

    Just my two cents.

  • Here is a sapphire crystal one: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Citizen-Eco-Drive-Mens-Titanium-W…
