Final Fantasy IX in iOS and Android 20% off to $26.99

110

My favourite Final Fantasy game ever came to iOS and Android!

I know it's a steep price for a smart phone game, but Square Enix very rarely do a discount on the FF titles. If you miss this one you'll likely have to wait until Christmas for a 50% or 25% off.

I wonder how many people actually buy these since they're usually such a high price?

    • +1

if they reduce to 70% less they will have 140% more people buying. stupid pricing decision.

      • I completely agree. This price for a game 16 years old was a terrible decision.

I would have bought the iOS version if it was reasonably priced.

It's also 4gb, which seems a bit high, but I guess they couldn't compress it much more after it being on 4 discs on the PS1

In Google Play, FF VI gets over 100,000 downloads. I'd imagine FF IX is way more than that, and I'd imagine a bit more on iOS. They know people want this I guess, and they know that people will pay for this. God damn it SE.

      • It's really annoying since they charge that much for pretty much every game that they release. Don't want to support this kind of pricing but I am a sucker for some of the games that they've released.

  • this much for an app seems insane even if it is final fantasy

Loooool so much $$$. Why dont they just make it $100?

  • I bought this on PSN for maybe $8, why is there such a huge markup on square's apps?

  • +2

That is $10 more than it costs on the Playstation Store. Honestly I would just emulate it. It seems like they are charging this much just because they can. Nine isn't on PC like the earlier ones are.

FF IX is coming to Steam within the next month.

      • +1

I'm so insanely happy about this. I just figured that because it didn't have an original ps port like seven and eight did that they weren't going to bother.

    • +2

It's coming on Steam as well, they marked it as "Early 2016": http://au.ign.com/articles/2016/01/08/final-fantasy-9-coming…

  • Final fantasy 7 is also available

I've just realised that FF 7 is iOS only, not android. Why is this?

FF9 is also my favourite FF game but that's a pretty big price tag for an old game.

I think I'm going to wait for the Steam release, which is "coming soon". The steam version will have an additional option to turn off random encounters which will be interesting.

    • I agree the price tag is quite big, but that's also partly because weak AUD.

The iOS/Android version also have an option to turn off random encounters, correct?

It's funny how this random enemy encounter is very common in RPG games in the 1990s and 2000s and people were okay with that back then, and now everyone hates it.

      • Oh right, yes it looks like the iOS/Android versions have the option to turn off random encounters too.

I tolerated random encounters but never liked them, they just so happened to be a big part of the games I liked. If I had the choice to turn off or reduce grind in JRPGS, believe me, I'd play a lot more JRPGs.

        • So if you disable it you don't fight monsters as you run around? Or there's little characters that you can see that you run into? (Kinda like Chrono Trigger)

        • @Spectator: Not sure, haven't tried out the game yet. I'll be waiting for the Steam version to come out.

    • There is a steam version coming soon? I just figured they weren't going to bother with nine because it never got a PC port and doing it now would be too much effort for a FF game that was sadly rather overlooked. It is my absolute favourite and honestly a large part of the reason I got a PS Vita.

  • 9 was a pretty good entry into the series. Not sure its worth the price though for app version.

Have to say that it was one of the few I actually finished to the end. (others being 6 and strangely 13….)

Free if you use an android PSX emulator.

    • Down vote for WHAT?

      • +2

If we were to go down road. Might as well put piratebay into ozbargain?

        • -2

Emulating a 16 year old game is hardly piracy. They don't sell the original game anymore.

I'm surprised so many people are so happy about paying $27 for a bad port that looks better emulated from all the screenshots posted so far of the steam version.

        • @samfisher5986: As unhappy I am with paying $27, your opinion does not constitute the actual law.

  • +3

    $26.99? It should be $6.99.

  • How to play with such high specification? 4GB memory and 8GB space for android.
My SHIELD still not match for this game… PSX man -..-'

Time to use my 1dollar telstra starter kit with 30dollar credit from coles =)

    • +1

i still have too but lately spent most of them into dragon ball dokkan

  • +1

Cheaper to order a physical copy of PS1 version off ebay and run it through emulator.

  • $27 seriously? O_o

  • Id buy it too to try if it was 15 dollars or.less. Never got past disc 3…. I went back to play after a long hiautus and couldn't remember how to play. Kept dying on random monster encounters lol
