Free 1GB Data on OPTUS Prepaid When Changing Phones (Worth $8)

80

I changed phones three days ago then optus sent me the following msg.
OptusMSG: Hey, looks like you got a new phone! We're giving you 1GB of bonus data to get you started. Simply free text 'YES' to 7777 before……..etc.
Got my bonus data immediately after replying.
I will be sapping back to my old phone over the weekend to see if the msg gets re-sent.
Sorry for the lack of image, I'm yet to figure out how to screenshot this phone (Doogee F1).

  • Sweet, just bought the Nexus 5X so can't wait for this! can confirm if it works whenever I get the phone in the post :P

    • Took a couple of days to get the msg but after going away for the xmas break I lost my rollover so this was a nice bonus.

  • Hmmm I'll change sim to another phone just to see if it works for me but that sim is on Connect For Less ( talk/sms but can use for data)

    • Just remembered this phone is dual sim, will switch it to the other port now. I doubt the msg will come to me twice, didn't get one last year when I switched phones.

Free 1GB Data on OPTUS Prepaid When Changing Phones

    This might be targeted..

I just changed phones with my wife and didn't get an extra 1GB.

      with my wife

      :O

      • I had to check that I did say 'phones'

        • Swapping clothes again?

Hang on… All the PC cronies are going to get you now…

        runs out of room >>>>>>>>>>

  • Read that first as charging phones… Im thinking sweeet here comes data for charging my phone

    • Same here :p

  • Try pressing and holding the home and power button till the screen flashes? :S

  • This could be Optus' Ping Pong for lots of data. But I doubt it…

  • Prepaid or postpaid?

  • Didn't know the sim has record about the phone you put it in ?

If that's the case, Optus will need a huge database to keep track of all the sim-phone combination of all the customers.

    • My guess is that they record the IMEI of every phone that connects to their network. If it's an existing customer (prepaid sim) using a completely new phone (IMEI has never connected before), they may send out this offer. They would probably also have other checks, like whether the user has had any free/bonus data already, etc.

      • Possibly. Or it might be just user based like whether you've been on optus with this imei before or something.

I had to change my sims around with my old phone for 4G today. If I don't get the 1GB for getting "a new phone", even though my phone thinks it's a different phone (new custom rom based on a different model)… probably imei.

  • Waited a few days to post this, but got a new phone, popped my old SIM in and didn't get the 1GB of extra data. Ah well
