For those travelling overseas and use e-sims, the 3a does NOT have e-sim capability.

    • +1

      That is what

      Dual NANO SIM

      means

Some people prefer dual sim phones with two physical sims.

      • +12

There are phones with dual physical sim slots and eSIM support. It’s not mutually exclusive

        • +1

I'm not aware of any phones like that in Australia. What are these phones?

            • +2

@FireRunner: The G75 AU model has one nano SIM + 1 eSIM. If these phones exist, what are they?

              • +1

@shxhshzhz: Ah my bad, I got bamboozled by the Good Guys page which said it supported two nano sims. Other sites confirm this is false.
I could have sworn there was a Motorola model that had dual physical sim and esim but yeah, maybe rarer than I thought

          • +3

@shxhshzhz: My Find X3 Pro has this, purchased from JB in 2022, although it was a flagship so I guess not comparable.

            • @maimai: It's also a 3 year old phone so not comparable to the current market

              • @shxhshzhz: Technically not AU market, but OnePlus 13 series does have it, I suppose the Australian market is just very bad. Also seems like Find X8 Pro has it (although once again it is a flagship)

              • @shxhshzhz: Galaxy S25, S24, S23 series

          • @shxhshzhz: oppo find x8 pro
2 sims and e-sims (not sure how many in total, i have 3 esims installed)

          • @shxhshzhz: NOTHING Phone (3a) Pro .. the pro one says it does

          • @shxhshzhz: The Nokia g60 5g

          • @shxhshzhz: Nokia g60 5g

      • Why so defensive to someone just pointing out pertinent information? You got shares in the company or something?

    • +4

      Their website lists
      3 = full eSim support
3a = eSim exclusivly for Japan
3a apro = eSim excluding India

Id guess its more of a software switch than hardware due to licensing or country regulations and someone far smarter than me might be able to root android and enable it.

I got this esim adaptor, which works very well.
      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008247200608.html
My Nothing Phone 2a+ is the same, dual physical sim and no esim. No esim used to be a dealbreaker for me, but now it can be overcome with esim adaptor cards like this - can store multiple esim profiles.
So now I just keep both my AU sim and the esim adaptor in the dual slots.

      • +1

Im going to buy cmf phone 2 pro, is it the same as yours? If so can you confirm if it supports micro sd

        • The CMF range is different to mine - I've got the Nothing Phone 2a+. Sadly it doesn't have a micro SD slot, so I went with the 256GB version.

      • +1

Wow didn't know this existed. Thanks!

      • Is there any limit how many esim you can store on the card?

        • Yes, it's got a limited memory capacity on the card. The one I linked is meant to be like a 9esim v0 card, which has "480K storage capacity - accommodates approximately 15 eSIM profiles" (I had to google that since the listing doesn't seem to say.)
It varies by card though, the 9esim V2 and V3 have bigger storage. There are other with varying storage/profile limits.
I only need 1 profile at a time for occasional travel so this is perfect for my needs!

          • +1

@moni813: Wow, that's good to hear. I probably only need about 3 at most when travel. But with all these freebies esim deals going around, it would be nice to have some extra just in case 😄

      • Pretty cool! Had no idea these existed

    • the web page for the 12 n 256 version has:
"5G network Dual nano-SIM and eSIM support"

    • Thank you for this!

    • +2

Neither does the DeLonghi in case you were considering TRS.

    • nothing to see here there is no phone at all because its nothing.

    • And for those travelling overseas to places with pools… It's not good with those either

    • Real-world-experience: eSIM phone causes IN-convenience in certain-circumstances, eg CON-current use of 2 sims: eSIM & pSIM.
MAIN-phone: eSIM I park my MAIN# here just to receive calls & sms. This phone is also pSIM: I churn-sim monthly for data, call-OUT & sms-OUT.
2nd-phone: pSIM only & older model.
I call bank to discuss issue using churn-pSIM. Bank initiates 2-factor-validation to my eSIM(MAIN#) but I can't receive that sms while I'm on the call with bank. I understand that NO au-carrier enable this feature on their network.

Similar problem arises when I use Optus-7d eSIM free-trial as a bridging-service for monthly churn-sim. I can only activate 1 eSIM on my phone at-a-time, but NOT CON-current use of 2 sims: eSIM to-call & eSIM to receive-sms. https://www.optus.com.au/customer-extras/network-trial?

  • Are these brand any good?

    • +17

      Yes they're Nothing.

    • +8

Nothing to scoff at, good value for the price IMO

Especially with the whole network blacklist shenanigans with POCOs, Xiaomis, etc.

Have had some time around the 3a and 3 and they're built well

  • +9

Really love my 2a, for what that is worth. Excellent build quality. When it dies, I would absolutely buy another Nothing phone. Really like it. I am fairly easily pleased, but it sure beats every Motorola I have owned over the last few years.

    • Camera is poor quality right? Or you are OK with it?

  • +4

Pixel up their phones to high end, leaving mid range phone position to Nothing

  • -1

These dont have NFC do they?

    • +6

It has NFC. Most phones above $200 have NFC in 2025

    • +2

think that's the cmf phone, their budget line with a confusing model name

  • +4

Any long time samsung user who moved and found it hard or missing features? Want to jump the fence.

    • +6

      Username checks out.

    • +1

You're getting a much cleaner version of android so you will not get all the Samsung apps that are loaded into Samsung phones. If you depend a lot on that ecosystem then that will be a difference. Most of those apps though duplicate google offerings already available in android. Any shortfall can be achieved with third party apps.

    • I had a nothing phone (1 or 2, cant remember) as a work phone and an s22 ultra as my main, honestly apart from being on the samsung eco system it was pretty much on par.

At the time if you were very particular about the camera, side by side the samsung would be marginally better. At this point it's really down to looks and also as the other comment points out, it was a cleaner version of android (out of the box anyway)

    • I shared an early review jumping from my old S20 FE here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16174567/redir

I still feel like some features are "missing" in that I can't find a non-Samsung app that achieves the same function. E.g.:
      * good face recognition in gallery app,
      * full editing features within gallery app that support editing history/reversion
      * ability to alter the snooze time when an alarm goes off.
      * unable to save photos in heic so photos are bigger file size.
Just little quality of life things that go with leaving the Samsung ecosystem. Otherwise it does everything well!
When my current Nothing Phone 2a+ dies, I'll firstly try to look for a good Samsung deal and if nothing pops up I'll probably get another Nothing phone haha

  • Is there any official custom ROM support?

  • Nothing-Phone (3a) vs Moto-Edge-60 range: Fusion, Neo (yet-to-release) & Edge-60-vanila ?

    • 60 edge pro would have better screen,battery,ram,storage,waterproofness..(and cost more certainly in Australia though grab one from India off eBay for ~$750)

      • Curious: Pro-Indian-version: compliance with all AU-carriers & why risk being block by any…even feature(s) that clashes with any-carrier ?

        Moto-AU Pro delivered: didn't want to wait 6 months for big-discount & ~9 mths for 50%-off clearance-sales, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/motorola-edge-50-pro

        • I think you answered your own qn but from my reading it won't have any issues in Australia.

      • Don't know how accurate this is, but I've read somewhere that Indian models don't have NFC due to them using a different wireless payment system there or something?

        • thanks for the heads up, certainly worth knowing if it is or isn't!

  • Any reviews on the coffee machine?

  • +2

Can someone recommend a new android phone in the same ball park but 6inch at max.

Anything over 6 hurts, looks funny and is too big, at least that's what my partner says…

  • That coffee machine looks really nice.

    • Yep. If you aren't too fussy about espresso it's a very affordable machine. There really isn't much "good" otherwise in this price range (machine with grinder)

  • The best phone. My only complaint is no macro camera.

    • +1

Wow that's a big call. So why are there phones over 1K if this is the best?

      • The best in the Nothing line up.* The Pro is just a slight bump up in cameras with eSIM (just use an eSim adaptor on 3a). While the 3 for $1300~$1500 removed the Glyphs - the best part.

      • Lol…best is a vague-word that has many-interpretations.

Likely that buyers have buying-criteria base on preferences & perceptions: bang-for-buck, convenience vs longevity, 5g, eSIM, oled-screen, budget, camera, brand, flagship-model, iPhone-status among female-teenagers etc etc etc the list can-be long.

Then you have paid & bias-reviews all over the internet spreading MIS-information…is OzBargain any-different?

        It's hard-work FACT-checking reviews & claims, eg battery-SIZE…SO-many variables are at-play & this's only 1 of many-features of a phone. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16641490/redir

        • I hope you read the follow up comment I made before replying and presumably negging (or someone else).

If you didn't or don't want to. 3a Pro offers a small camera bump up compared to the 3a with a large price difference. The 3 being "flagship" and well over $1000 puts it in a whole different category.

          • @Clear: Apology & I did not read your follow-up comments.

Maybe I've written in a way that allow many-interpretations…not-targeting you?

    • How's the camera?
Looking to upgrade my moto G54 mainly because the camera is crap but ideally not wanting to jump to pixel money.

      • Stock Motorola camera app isn't very good. If you've got anything non-Pixel, Samsung or iPhone you're better off getting a GCam port specific for your phone. It can make a massive difference.

    • The no waterproof bit sucks. I'd probably grab it otherwise.

  • Doesn't look that much better than a Moto G84/G85 and lacks micro SD expansion

    • +1

It feels MUCH better built than the G84 which is what I had before my 2a. (12gb/256) It feels like an Android Iphone in the hand. Really well made. Camera more than decent. Not buggy, no crashes or malfunctions. Feels very slick. I think on paper the Moto's are better, but in real life, at this price point, I really rate the Nothings 😀

  • Never heard those phone before ? Is it good ? I am after a phone with dual Sim slots, with good camera for my mum

  • Need help. How are we getting the coffee machine to $434? Tried the 'Instant' code but doesn't work.

  • +2

Thanks OP! Just bought one. Currently use the 2a for work, the 3a will be my new personal phone.

  • Anyone has this Nothing 3a and can give feedback what is the performance of the camera - such as night scenes, camera stabilization, etc? The phone seems to tick many boxes and I am keen.

  • Can this be stacked with the ultimate gift cards?
