  • does it stack with $10 off mobile plans if you have Optus broadband?]

edit - Nope, it doesn't work. THe saving is less than $100 for a $60 plan ($40+$20) plan.

I just asked the guy over chat and he says it will work. :/

I just tried it. Said coupon is invalid. You might have to call them to get it applied.

  • Doesn't seem to apply for me :( Say that my code is invalid?

Edit: Nevermind! Seems that you can't just add a regular plan to cart, you have to add a student plan from this list http://offer.optus.com.au/student-hub/student-phone-plans/

    • Yep, so the only deal in this is $45 for 10GB. And bonus $10 off if you have broadband with them.

Optus jerk in the chat is telling me it is only for new plans only…..

They spoke with their supervisor and they were corrected - this does apply to recontracting also

The guy I am chatting to right now is saying for new plans only as well… He's refusing to offer me the deal over chat.. :/

Edit: Also, only applicable to new customers, he won't give me the extra 5GB of data on the $50 plan.

I think the writing is a bit misleading, I believe it would be recontracting if your current plan has expired.

    Attention existing customers (not recontracting)!

I have managed to get the student discount (10%), plus bundle discount ($10) using my existing phone number! So on the $50 plan month to month, it comes down to $35.

This was a very lengthy process, I'd say almost wasn't worth it!
    1) Had to put the order through via the website
    2) Went on chat to see if they could give me the bonus data 5GB data (if you want the $50 M2M plan) making it 10GB
    3) Chat couldn't do it, so I called up - after 4 transfer and 50 minutes of waiting - they delightfully fixed my order to include all the above discounts with no compromise.

    • Tried this. 2 x 30 minutes on the phone. No one is willing to budge unless I jump through porting hoops

It is ridiculous, I am a full service Optus customer (Home, Internet, TV, 3 x mobiles), who is being told to 'port elsewhere for a day or two', then come back to this deal.
When I suggested that I may as well just port all the phones over to the Virgin $50 for 12GB plan and leave them there (same network, same price, more data), they said theyd 'be sad to see me leave Optus'… I have to wonder if the call centre agent will really have difficulties sleeping tonight!

Uggh, it is always frustrating dealing with these guys as a current customer!
TPG have their $10 for 1.5G data (for the first 6 months) promotion. Wondering if I can live on that little data and wait for the next Optus promotion to port back in. Makes it easier to justify converting home to TPG Naked DSL @ $70 for unlimited adding in Netflix for $12 for HD and I am paying less than half the price of Optus.

… Apologise for the thinking out loud here, but I'm starting to think this may have inadvertently been an awesome ozbargain for me! :)

      • did you place an order? I said - I want to cancel my order because I am told I wasn't eligible for the extra data as an existing customer, unless you can help me out… Said the same thing to each person they transferred me to, - eventually to someone nice enough to help…

        • Placed an order yesterday, received an email this morning telling me there was an issue with my order and I needed to call them (WTF, why do I need to sit in a queue for half an hour because they needed more details).

Anyway I called, they said 'not for existing customers', I said 'Virgin', they transferred me a few times and then just said 'meh'. And that was it.

I might try again later, just annoyed at wasting an hour, for the privilege of paying double the price of their competitor.
