      …has just been revoked.

    • This didn't get nearly as much credit as it deserved!

      I just paid for this in Krugerrands….

    Love IWTF.

    Cheaper from Sydney than from Perth? How does that work?

    • +2

      Perth is almost always more expensive…

      • +3

        But its closer? The Sydney plane flies over Perth on the way to joburg

        • +8
        • Correct. They rip us off. If we fly over the eastern states we pay between $300 and $700 more RT.

        • @muncan: Nice one. I tend to fall into the 'flat earth' perspective too - so your image is a good reality check. Reminds me of the 'over the top' routes from Japan to Europe.

        • @muncan: Image source?

          @Utopian: i.imgur.com

        • @muncan: I was hoping for a serious answer.

        • -1

          @Utopian: Imgur is a serious image hosting venture, worth over $40M

        • The flight from Sydney actually does not fly over Perth on the way to South Africa. From Sydney it flies South West in an arc to Johannesburg.

        • @muncan: I'm referring to the source, the creator, the factual source - Not the image host. I'm trying to find the actual science (or whatever) behind it. I've flown West 100+ times, and it was over land every single time. But I've never been to Africa. Thanks for making me spell every bit of this out.

          @Utopian: You're welcome!
          Good on you for fact checking. ✅

        • @muncan: ? So after all that… it is just some random made-up "internet truth". Oh the LOLs.

        • -1

          @Utopian: The random made-up "internet truths" are fairly consistent

          @Utopian: that would be gcmap.com

        • @bangbang: Thanks for that. Much appreciated!
          Exactly what I was after, in a simple reply.

      As usual Perth gets stuffed by everyone.

    • +8

      Probably because QF doesn't fly Perth - Johannesburg anymore, you either have to fly backwards (!!) To Sydney, or take a codeshared flight through Emirates (involving an enormous detour out to Dubai).

      • +2

        Its going to cost about $1280 flying South African Airways direct from Perth, might be worth it for the time saved (like if you have kids).

        edit, you save about 10 hours each way with SAA!

        • +2

          South African airways has a much better baggage policy as well which is worth heaps of you are taking a bicycle or surfboard. Qantas was going to charge a friend over $1500 to take bicycle even through she was platinum with Qantas

        • -1

          @Sickman: she would have got raped and killed. QF was trying to save her life

    • And that's just the tip of the Jo-burg…

    • Yeah looked into this recently and it was more expensive to fly from Perth to Johannesburg than Melbourne to Johannesburg with South African airlines even though the Melb flight stopped in Perth.

    • +1

      even cheaper than the Indian Pacific train!

    Wow, these are very good prices indeed, wish I was able to take advantage of this but sadly will only be able to make it there later in the year.

  • Since most need you to stay 3-4 weeks, make sure u check out bazbus. Cape town/joburg/durban can get pretty boring after a week in the city

  • If you are looking to fly family from SA to Australia there`s also the companion sale (ending today). http://www.qantas.com/travel/airlines/international-flight-s…
