I love the description at the target website:

    Care Instructions
    * Machine washable

    http://www.target.com.au/p/platinum-led-lcd-tv-138cm-pt5518l…

    • I swear I've seen that on pretty much all their tech haha

I'm sold! It has the word platinum in the title, hence it must be awesome!

    • With a name like that you just know you can't go wrong buying it.

Which is why Pure Platinum is better than Men's Gallery

So if I washed it and can claim warrenty if it stopped working as claimed in discription, not honouring it would be false adverting and misleading?
    Deal!

    • I think you might have to use the "reasonable person" test. Will a reasonable person believe that the TV is machine washable?

      • I need to find a big enough washing machine for this TV.

These TVs should be banned from being sold in Austalia. We don't want this muck here.

From the target website reviews.. Well the only review.

"It was a treat, last night, to watch Avatar in full wonderful colour…"

I wonder what she thought the na'vi were like without colour?

    • blue?

  • Anyone got any actual feedback on this TV? Seems like a reasonable price for a ~55" TV

    • I've bought the 32 inch platinum. So far pretty good (3 months) for the price at the time ($249).

I thought I'd try my luck with the 40" Platinum just last month. I took it back after half an hour. I didn't persevere trying to tweak the poor image - really obvious compression artefacts, awful SD upscaling - because the remote control was so sluggish, half the button presses didn't even register, and the ones that did were slow to respond. The EPG was poorly laid out. The only good thing I can say is Target readily refunded the money, the young guy at the store was not surprised, in fact he said he was surprised they had so few returns. Perhaps I just got an especially bad one.

The 54 inch model may be a completely different beast. letsplayludo is happy with his 32 inch, so its a gamble really - you gotta ask yourself "Do you feel lucky punk?"

To be honest, these kinds of TVs are made for people who want a big screen and not much else.

  • $435 for 50" Bexa from JB, or this for $574

    • If you're trying to decide, I'd get the Bexa. An extra 4 inches isn't worth over $100 more.
