Almond Breeze Milk 1L $1.64 (Almond / Almond & Cashew / Almond & Coconut) @ Woolworths

191

EDIT: Not a deal, read tonester's comment as there are much better valued almond milk out there.

Already mentioned in sween and trolleysaver's posts but I feel that this deserves a separate post. Almond Breeze is rated much more highly than the 'so good' almond milks, and as a result it's extremely rare to find it at half price.

  • I found it this price 4 weeks ago @ Woolies. Consequently bought 5-6 weeks worth. However, taste wise, So Good Almond Milk (from the fresh, chilled section) tastes best imho.

Also suitable if you suddenly realise that you're not a baby cow.

  • Once you try Nutty Bruce you don't go back. 10% almonds mean that it actually taste like nuts. It's $6.99 per litre though at woolies but in my opinion it is worth every cent.

    • Says $4.99 on woolies website

      • I just realised I got confused with this new one I'm trialing with 12% almonds. It's too thick and tastes bad. Sorry Nutty Bruce is $4.99!

the best/value almond milk is pureharvest with 10% almonds vs almond breeze 2% and so good 2.5%

    $3.39 @ colesworth = $33.90/L almonds vs almond breeze $82/L almonds

    • the best valued almond milk is a mouth full of almonds mashed

  • 2% Almonds… just sayin' http://imgur.com/kW3Jwrc

    • Interestingly your recent post on the Australian Own almond milk only had 3% almonds as well, though its still much much better than this 2% I guess.

its 95% - 98% water (most likely filtered tap water)

    • From tonesters link, nearly every single brand had 2-3% almonds, so it's quite normal I guess. But I do agree that it is nowhere near the value of the 10% brands, so neg accepted.

(I didn't neg your comment btw, just upvoted you)

      1. You don't even need to soak the almonds if you have a good blender.

      2. Leave the emulsion for a little while before straining and you can simply decant a whole bunch off so you don't have to strain too much.

      3. If you want it to last longer then heat it on the stove before bottling - all supermarket milks are pasteurized to give them long life.

    • Can do you make low fat almond milk ?
I don't think it's a neg if you haven't got a way to make the entire range

  • not to mention the amount of effort going into producing almond milk is heinous

  • So good is about the same price at Coles currently. Can't remember the exact price, 1.60, 1.70, or there abouts.

    • Yeah, So Good is half price at Coles at the moment. $1.64. I bought quite a bit tonight at my local Coles. I wanna give this Pure Harvest one a go sometime though now. And Nutty Bruce looks interesting too.

Almond Breeze contains carrageenan as an additive - not good for you. Google it. Most other almond milks contain gellan (or nothing) which is fine.

Vitasoy almond milk isn't bad - Australian almonds, and around 3.7% almonds.

  • So the product has 2% almonds + water and other stuff. Making your own don't you use a small amount of almonds and add water anyway? What's the difference?

    • 800g of almonds are $14 at coles.
Assuming 2% of 1L is around 20g of almonds, it'll only cost you 35 cents to make something that costs $1.64 when bought.

      • Yeah makes sense from a $ point of view (though I use 50g almonds per 1 litre), but all the people that say almond milk is just flavoured water then they advocate making your own flavoured water anyway :S

Edit: also how many grams of almonds is 2% I wonder

    • And also you can get 10% almond milk for twice the price…..

Homemade almond milk recipes usually contain 1 cup almonds 3 cups water… so homemade is more like 25% almonds.

      • Not sure that 1 cup of almonds leads to 1 cup of liquid from the almond, so it wouldn't be 25%?

        • Not sure hmm, but as tonester said, you can get pureharvest almond milk for $3.3, which has 10% almonds. Double the price of this, but 5 times the amount of almonds.

A lot of people are complaining about the percentage of almonds but I think they might be missing the point.

If you are going for pure value, buy actual almonds.

If you are buying for a filling or highly nutritious drink, get the 10% almond brand.

If you are buying for a nice tasting alternative to water that is very light on the calories get almond breeze.

Personally I buy this one specifically because I love a nice cold healthy drink, if I did this with 10% almonds it would be completely overkill in large amounts. Its a much stronger taste and very filling and would be harmful instead of helpful to my weight loss.

  • I love Almond Breeze, this is the best price I have seen in a while

  • Fantastic savings. Bought 75 of them at Coles recently at $1.64 per litre. Cleared the shelf.
