Does anyone actually notice the difference in performance when used on phones?

        • No, but in a Surface Book or Surface Pro 4… ooooyeah!

I've received countless PMs requesting faster MicroSD cards,

Interesting that they don't PM PC Byte directly :P

      TA's first interest is us. A business's isn't.

      • Not complaining. Just interesting that people don't try and negotiate deals themselves ;)

        • Let's negotiate ..what can you offer?.

        • I recognise that,and agree.

why not sell it from pcbyte.com.au to save at least 10% eBay fee? then we can get it for $5x rather than $64

thanks TA. This ones going onto the eneloop / memery card pile I have happening in the corner :)

    • +1

      Piles can be nasty.

      • Good detective work there, he probably store too many of his Eneloop and memory cards up there, causing him to develop piles.

  • Is this finally the 4K card I have been looking for? :)

    • Uh the listing has been removed…!!

      • ?

        • Seems to be working now.

  • Thanks for this, TA!! You are awesome, mate!

  • Geez how fast do these things get

  • Thanks TA!!! :)

Do I have unrealistic expectations after the 32gb thread? Would much prefer the 32gb (mostly for price - $16!, and a little for compatibility)

  • +1

Personally i don't see the appeal of this card.

4k action camera/DSLR/mirrorless doesn't and can't write anywhere near 50mbps even when recording in 4k.

I bought a PNY 64gb microSD U3 standard (60mbps write) from Amazon for $35AUD delivered, to me that's not just a better buy but a wiser one as well.

    • It's personal choice. Just like some people like to purchase a 500kW car just to drive in a 30km/h heavy traffic between work and home daily.

      • Well sure if you have money to burn.

By the time ANY device that can actually utilize the write speed on this card it will be half price, so I'd rather keep the difference in my pocket now and not overspent for zero benefits.

    • I have a few X1000V and have tried the UHS-3 Samsung card which has higher speeds than the PNY. I cannot record at the highest rate. So far, only the SanDisk extreme pro has been able to do that.

So yeah. There is a difference.

      • I had the Sony X1000V as well. It isn't the fault of the cards but Sony's lack of compatibility.

In reality Samsung/PNY or whatever branded 64gb or above U3 card should work.

        • The Samsung and PNY's write speeds are both slower than the SanDisk. The SanDisk works but the other two do not.

Seems to me that it is a speed issue. Also, there are a few forums and Amazon reviews that show many people having the same experience. The speed of the card really needs to be (currently) top spec.

    • For video there may not be a difference but for continuous stills shooting it matters.

See http://m.thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-sd-card/. If that article is to be believed then the bitrate for burst shooting for a dslr is 200mb/s which exceeds the speeds of these cards. So a higher write speed will still give benefits.

      • +1

More likely you will fill up the camera buffer before you hit the speed limit of those high-end fast cards.

      • The diff is negligible between the Sandisk and Transcend, like 0.5s after 10 secs of bursting?

These tests proves nothing….there's always a slight variance.

Who knows? The result can be the complete opposite if they test the cards with a different branded camera.

    • Some cameras (like Sony ActionCams) require SDXC U3 cards to enable their 4K high bitrate recording functionality.

      • I know.

The PNY is a U3 card, 64gb and $35AUD delivered.

Too bad I've sold the X1000V, so I can't confirm whether or not it is compatible with it.

    • I tested the sd card version on a fz1000 and the burst rate recovery was 2-4 times quicker than a very fast Samsung pro card so it's amazing

Thanks TA, don't forget Cashback via CR at eBay :)

  • thanks. Bought for my Microsoft SP4

    • +2

Do you know the read/write speed of the microSD slot in the SP4?

Reason I ask is I have a Win10 tablet as well and from what I've been told the write speed (which I care the most) is somewhere ~20mbps, so again you are paying a lot more and won't/can't utilize the speed.

You are most likely able to max out the speed on your SP4 with a standard Samsung EVO for less than half of this card.

Note - I am not at all bashing this deal, but I just want a valid reason WHY I need this card and WHERE I can actually make the full (or close to) use of it.

      • I agree with you after I did some speed test on the Samsung EVO and SanDisk Ultra MicroSD cards yesterday and realized I didn't need the Pro+ for my 4K camcorder.

I read on the instruction manual and found out to record a 4K video at 25fps is required 72mbps/9MBps. Even a Samsung EVO is fast enough to record the video at 4K/25fps without lags.

I bought the 64GB EVO for $24 on last Ebay sales.

      • hi there,

totally understand your point - i kind of jumped on the deal as ive wanted to get the card for both my SP4 and my DSLR camera.

Regarding the speeds, i found this link which seems to imply some decent speeds on the SP4 microsd slot:

        http://www.surfaceforums.net/threads/fastest-microsd-card-fo…

happy to do some testing when i collect the card :)

        • +1

Thanks for understanding. Again I am not at all bashing this deal.

I also have no problem spending a bit extra for faster speed if I can utilize it. But so far all the reviews/articles/tests I've read suggests that the fast write speed is often wasted….

      • people like to think they are buying something greatly superior when in real life usage, its not going to matter one single bit

        but no point telling them

        • Not really since I have gotten new cameras that have rejected my cards for 4K and also high bitrate 1080p so I had to upgrade the card again and again
Also transferring gigs and gigs to Pc is so much quicker

  • Recorded a video on 1080i/50fps 5.1ch surround sound at 28mbps/3.5MBps. So EVO is fast enough to record most 1080i/4K videos IMO.

  • Finally! I bought one :)

    Got the SanDisk Ultra 200gb
    And SanDisk 64gb Xtreme pro
For comparison I've used these two cards in the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium
    Which internal read is 228.24 MB/s Write 128.43 MB/s

    With the ultra 200gb
    32.26 read MB/s
    15.04 write MB/s
    Ultra screenshot

    With xtreme pro 64gb
    34.51 read MB/s
    31.10 write MB/s

  • Thanks TA

    Ordered one for my SP3

  • Yay, Thanks TA and seller!!! As discussed earlier, this at HN sells for $186.. http://www.harveynorman.com.au/sandisk-64gb-extreme-pro-micr… Tried to get some $$ off and they offered $10 off the RRP.. I had showed them online stores and they claim these cards were fake.. What an insult to our great online sellers.

Harvey Norman weasel their way out of price matching, even price matching other HN stores.

dont shop them, ever. Why give money to this pack of assholes, all Gerry does is petition the government saying he's so poor now because people buy stuff on the internet so we need to tax internet sales so brick and mortar expensive stores can try and compete.

newsflash, try hiring nice people in the stores and selling at reasonable prices Gerry, you old coont

    • I bought some samsung 64Gb SD cards from MSY last year for $19 each.

      Same card at HN, $99

      • they sell HDMI cables for 150 dollars plus.

the thing is, with hdmi it either works or it doesnt. so the 150 dollar cable is going to be the same as the 10 dollar one.

        heh

        • +1

$150 is definitely a rip, but contrary to popular belief, digital isn't purely a "works or doesn't" cliff.

Just like how digital mobile phone calls sound weird in a poor signal area, poor HDMI cables can cause problems too. Poor solder connections, low quality plugs, excessive capacitance, and wires within the cable that are too thin for their length can lead to digital artifacts or loss of audio or flashing video.

Cheap cables can be perfectly adequate, especially if they're short and not plugged/unplugged too many times. But once you start dealing with longer cable runs, or plug/unplug it frequently (e.g. from a laptop), something higher-quality might be a better idea.

          More info here.

To all the people saying the card is faster than necessary for today's cameras - the BIG advantage is when you have 10 full cards and you want to download them QUICKLY to your computer!

That's when the speed advantage is worth the extra coin.

  • Bought! Thanks Op. Quickest buy ever, took me 15sec.

  • You'll want a micro SD card with fast write speed for Marshmallow's new adopt microSD feature. It'll let you use it as internal storage. Not all phones support this feature though. The S7 and G5 don't.

  • Missed out :(
