Wow on paper specs sound good.

    • +3

Sorry to say, but things don't sound on paper. Look, yes.

      • +2

        Haha yes you're right.

      • Don't they have talking papers in the US Air Force?

        • I just bought some from office works.

  • Here's a review for anyone interested: http://www.ultrabookreview.com/9304-acer-aspire-r14-review-2…

I'm looking for a good 2-in-1 ATM; this is very tempting given the awesome specs for $$$, but I'm still leaning towards a Surface Pro…

    • +1

Price difference is huge though… ($2499 for the i7) You can buy 2 of these and still have spare change…

      • Yeah, that's absolutely true…but I'm fairly keen on the slim/light form factor of the SP. FWIW, I can live with the SP i5 for a fair bit less (or even the Core-M to go fanless)…decisions, decisions! :/

    • +2

Surface pro is nice but imo the resolution is too high. Windows sucks at display scaling so you're stuck looking at a blury or a tiny screen.

      • Exactly. Same problem with the 14" lenovo laptops.

  • +5

I don't even need a new laptop but this deal makes me want to buy one

  • +2

    The weight is 1.9kg? Really?!!

  • +1

this or lenovo e460 or dell?

    Vaio beat them all!
    Vaio S or Z or Canvas….
    Also on price…more expensive :)

    • I think non-sony VAIO isn't available in Australia?

      • +2

        Au Dollar up ;)
        Via Japan or America

        • except AU dollar is way down :( …, and have to add 10% GST for over $1000.

    • meh I had a top of the range sony viao, it was crap

      • +1

That was Sony…not Vaio….oh and I have the 2011 Sony Z2 Vaio direct from HK

Can these things connect to a monitor?

  • with only 1 hdmi, can i use
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-3-0-To-HDMI-HD-1080P-Video-Ca…
to get another monitor, and extend the view?
    (not just mirror display).

the idea is using this at home connected to 2 monitors (extend view) with possibility to carry on while holiday

    • +1

AFAIK they all use displaylink technology, so you can plug up to 6 of them in 1 computer. Should work with the built in display out since most of the processing if offloaded to the cpu, but i never got to try it before I return my unit.

Pretty useless for anything other than word documents really, massive degradation in pq and noticeable lag. Might need to shell out a little more for the spectre if you need to go hard with 2 external monitors.

  • Good price for the specs … 1.9kg is pretty heavy for this kind of thing.

Im pretty sure my HP x360 spectre with similar specs is <1.5kg

    • +1

But Yours is 13" and $1800?

      • +1

An inch of screen doesn't add 500g

That's not the point anyway…the point is that it's a heavy unit.

    • +1

I agree, sub 1.5kg makes a huge difference when you are carrying this everyday.

  • For those of you looking for a good price on the lenovo yoga 900 you can stack the education price, code "LENOVO15" and cashrewards 8% rebate.
    I got the i7, 512GB version for $2098.69 less $152.63 from cashrewards.
That brought the total from $2599 to $1946.06 shipped. And they've dispatched it in 3 days!

    • Link?

It's this model but don't forget you have to go through CR and then login with an education login (easily created if you have access to a .edu email).
CR -> lenovo website -> education login -> pick computer (must be greater than $2000 to use code) -> then type in LENOVO15 at checkout.

    shame it's an Acer…

    • Shame you are clueless…

      • Oh petal…how wonderful, I was actually thinking of you when I posted that.

    • Acer is so underrated, their stuff isn't actually bad you know, they just haven't been doing much…

  • +1

This is the 2C i7 guys. If you are looking for a good CPU get the 4C i7s.

    • AFAIK, Ultrabooks rarely come with quad-core i7 aka Q series. Would be happy to stand corrected if proven wrong though… :)
