Spotlight catalogue has two sewing machines that look like decent value. Need to sign up for free VIP membership to get these prices. Starts 10th March =)

Simplicity by Brother SL300 $199 (RRP $399)

Spotlight often has 30% off sewing machines, so this seems to be a little better!

I've just taken it up recently (ie yesterday =D) and it seems like a lot of fun.

  • Anyone used the $99 is it a good one for a begginner.. I need one for basic shortening of clothes ?

    • just registered VIP but could not get the $99 price. How do you bring the final price down?

      • It starts on the 10th of March 😊

        • lol, over exited… the in-laws would love a gift like this…

    • It is often at Target or Myer for the same price. Also at post office at the moment for $119.

I have it. Its a good all round machine, it probably doesnt have the power to punch through thick denim or anything like that. No walking foot either. I have used it to make kids clothes and repairs to clothes/strollers/other things and it does that fine.

      • will i be able to shorten the end of jeans using the $99 machine?

        • +1

As long as it's not too thick, yes. It will chug a little where it has to punch through the thick bits where the side seams are but if you take it slowly should be fine.

        • @paizuri:
Thanks for that !! Will go grab one

  • Australia Post usually has this sort of deal sewn up

  • I want an overlocker for next to nothing!

  • If you're after a cheapie machine the husqvarna Viking E10 that they currently have for $129 is a far better machine.

Doorknob the overlocker they have on the same page for $249 does a fairly decent job.

    • I wouldnt say it is a far better machine. The Brother is by no means a bad machine. Neither machine has the grunt for heavy duty sewing but they are good for lighter jobs. Both are fairly basic machines in terms of features.

The Husqvarna comes with a lot more accessories which may well be useful in terms of different feet and a sewing kit. Good needle threader too.

  • I have a singer machine that I am quite used to so I hate to give up, but it needs a service to fix it's tension. Anyone I can charges more than it is worth to service. Does anyone know of a reliable and reasonable service place in Sydney east?
