      • Well system is working. it's definitely the staff.

was able to giftception at self-service but the attendant said he couldn't process $500 at self service. so bought a couple of $400 & $100's, did giftception, then went to a manned counter & got busted trying to split payment between GC & CC. It went thru but the lady said they are absolutely not allowed to process GC with GC & even though it worked the staff can get in trouble. I didn't say anything after that.

    • Yeah now they are saying can only do $100 and not $500 giftcard. I said but I did one yesterday? Lol so I went to the electronics department and did it regardless.

      • Yeah it's really inconsistent between stores and different store members within the one store.

  • so after reading comments, is still possible to buy these physical Big W gift cards using woolies (5% off) eWish gift card? therefore making it 15% off
still getting my head around this giftcard world

    • 1) possible…if you're lucky, but personally I would just be stocking up on 10% off cards and not gambling with being stuck with 5% e-gift cards when I could have used that $ to buy more 10% off physical cards
      and
      2) thats not 15%, its 14.5% ;)

thanks, well if i had already a few hundred $ of eWish cards I would of tried but didnt so went for the safe route. converted to JB hifi for a Nexus 5x. cheers

  • I was able to buy $450 worth of Big W gift cards, and then convert them to JB Hi-Fi gift cards at Big W and Woolworths. Thanks for posting OP!

    • +1

That's different. You can always buy 3rd party store gc with woolies gift card because they already have pre determined values on them. All that happens at the register is it gets activated.

  • Was able to buy $1500 of Big W gift cards using Wish egift cards.

    • which store? any in nsw?

      • Plumpton

bought 5x$100 gift card. used ing card to receive further 2%

    • +2

Why not $110 or $111?You can nearly max out the Paywave upper limit.

    • i did this last time. probably my fault cos i did too many but I split my purchase at like $99 each with ING and got a call a month later from ING that their system picked me up for misuse and if i did it again theyd cancel my cashback.

moral of the story, don't do too many in a row.

      • Given 2% cashbcak rather than 5%,I think it should be OK in these situations.

        • i was on 2% cash back. like i said, probably my fault because i had like 8 in a row. surely a few wont get picked up but i was greedy.

  • Doncaster, VIC out of stock of Big W (red) and TicketMaster.

  • Wetherill Park had plenty of the red Big W gift cards. Bought one $100 one, went to Bonnyrigg to buy the $30 Nintendo eShop card and a $40 Telstra recharge voucher from Woolies and the remainder will go towards my next Opal recharge at Woolies. Kudos OP!

Anyone tried paying for $100 Big W physical card with $90 WISH eGift card at Karingal VIC Big W?

    • +1

      Giftcardception…

    • -1

If anyone's wondering, yes I did manage to do the above.
I bought a $90 WISH eGift card from Cashrewards for $85.50, went to Big W Karingal VIC and picked up a red ribbon Big W Gift Card, went to self-serve checkout and the attendant stopped me in my tracks, said I have to go to a manned one.
      Damnit, I thought.
Fortunately, went to a regular manned checkout, dude there was happy to let me pay for the $100 gift card using eGift WISH card. Didn't flinch when I said "I think I have some balance on this thing" (while pointing at a printout of the eGift card).
So ended up with a $100 Gift Card for $85.50. Win.
      It gets even better.
Went back and bought 2 $30 Nintendo Eshop gift cards for $54.
      If I calculate correctly, that's a 23.05% saving. That's insane.
      Thanks OP.

  • I managed to get $500 worth of Big W cards today but they wouldn't let me pay by RACV 5% physical Wish cards. It's the first time I've been knocked back for the gift card conversion process at Big W

You should try different store. Different store different policy

      • I think there will be fewer and fewer stores allowing the process. Apparently there was an email circulated recently about the practice.

I might try a different store next time this offer is available.

    • Which Big W was that?

      • Epping, Victoria

Went to the same store that I went last week , but this time they rejected to uae gift card to purchase gc. I said I can do it last week and she outsmart me by saying it starts this week. Really ??

    • I got a card read error today when I tried it. IS that what you got?

      • It still worked for me today. I ended up with just over $490 after starting with $270.

        • ha, started with $200- ended up with $900…

        • how did you do that?

        • @shonofear:

pretty ballsy to do 16 transactions if thats the case. $200 should have resulted in $919, and probably some questioning about money laundering

          Initial cash of $200:
          Gift Card<- Cash
          $220 $200
          $242 $220
          $266 $242
          $293 $266
          $322 $293
          $354 $322
          $390 $354
          $429 $390
          $472 $429
          $519 $472
          $571 $519
          $628 $571
          $690 $628
          $759 $690
          $835 $759
          $919 $835

@SBOB: Wow, salute to you. Which store that you went to and whether the staff assisting you ? How many times that you have to go back there or you just do 16 times at the same time ?

        • @yht:

I didnt, but shonofear claims they did

        • @SBOB: Oops, sorry.

        • @SBOB:
haha, nah giftcardceptopn is too deep for my world,
my bad, i meant i got carried away buying more and more gift cards with ca$h
          nice work though

  • Has anyone tried using bigw branded cards to purchase a wish gift card at woolies?

    • What's the point? It's the exact same card with a different picture on front.

      • I was just concerned because the BIG W branded card terms are a little unclear.
I know it currently works at Woollies, Masters etc but if they change it to BIG W only I am screwed.

At least the Wish cards shows all the stores on the actual card, just trying to be sure to be sure!

        • +2

I wouldn't panic. I have a few grand in these Big W gift cards. If they go down I will go down with you too.

        • -1

Time to panic!! I tried to use it at a Wooly's Caltex today and they wouldn't let me even swipe it.
I purchased $2000 worth to mainly use for fuel and they are now useless.
Called Woolworths Caltex and they said no, called Big W and asked if I could swap them for the wish gift cards and they said no.

          What a WASTE OF MONEY.

        • @noddypiper:
Are you sure? I used mine at caltex woolies on Sunday fine.

        • -1

My wife was rejected by the store when they saw the Big W on the card.
I guess I might have to dodgy up a sticker or something.
          Very annoying.

I also called Caltex Wooly's number and they also said no they won't accept the Big W card!!

        • @noddypiper:
Try a different servo, or if there's a Woolie's servo try it there. Can still use at Woolie's in store and online.

        • @noddypiper: Isn't that against the T&Cs on the back of the card? I don't have one on me, but from memory they said they can be used at stores listed at everydaygiftcards.com.au.

        • -1

That's what we said to the person in the Woolworth's caltex station but they refused.
I even called the Woolworth's caltex number on the site and the customer support person said sorry we can't accept them.
I think the trick is to not let them see the card, problem is that my wife kicked up a stink so they will remember her.
Not sure where to go next?

        • @noddypiper: My wife didn't have any problem using it on Monday.
