      • Yeah, since it's being shared I was just wondering if I can just use the number and pin just like an egift its more convenient but if not that's fine.

        • It's a physical card. You need it for the transaction. The wish card you just input numbers so you could take pics of it or write down the numbers to input into the terminal, so share it between people.

        • The number and PIN on the back can be used by anyone on-line, just did this now for an order. Not sure if you can manually enter the card number and PIN in store?

        • @argonbay: if that happened on-line, surely it can happen in-store.

        • @Inflow: Possibly, but never tried it.

The physical gift cards only has the 19 digit number on the back as well as the pin unlike the eGift cards which have two sets of numbers and the pin (the 19 digit number for on-line purchases and a 12 character in-store code). There is no in-store code on the back of a physical gift card, you swipe the card and enter the pin.

        • @argonbay: yes, thanks for informing.

  • when I was in Big W Saturday morning (Zelda Wii u purchase) I noticed the big easter bunnies (same as in catalogue) were 2 for $10, packet of a dozen easter eggs were also 2 for $10, so $20 has my daughter's Easter covered.

  • I am thinking get this 10% off bigw giftcards, and use it to buy psn card. Is that allowed?
    How long does giftcard last/expire?

    • Last lot were 12 months expiry.

  • $3 Smiths and Doritos 330g big bag chips are also a bargain.

  • Would the Big W gift cards still work in Caltex Woolworths?

    • Soon we will know lolz.

    • If they are the same as the batch from christmass they will. Personally I wouldn't buy anymore than you are prepared to spend at BigW. For me I'm only going to get about $1000 worth, that way if I get stuck spending them at BigW I will just buy a Galaxy S6.

      • +1

I'm just going to buy one, then try it at Woolworths. If it still works like it did last time, I'll go back and stock up.

        • Please let us know after you try.

  • Does anyone know if it makes a difference which e-gift card I buy? I can get 5% off Wish or Big W e-gift cards and I want to get one to try and pay for my 10% off Big W gift card in store. Thanks

    • If you really want to try, it's better to buy a Wish gift card as you can use it in Woolworths as well.

      • Thanks, didn't know if one worked better than the other for this particular process. Your right the Wish gift card will give more flexibility if it doesn't work.

  • Does anyone know whether BigW does price match with e.g. OfficeWork?

  • -6

Any news on whether Big W giftcard-inception still works?

    • oh man, please dont do that!!

      • -2

        What's gift card inception?

      • Let's not pretend that a bunch of us here don't do it.

I purchased a gift card this morning. I was told upfront you can't pay with a gift card and that I would need ID if paying with a credit card. So make sure you have ID just incase.

    • Where did you go ? From my experience, different store different policy.

      • +1

Didn't try to use gift card to purchase but had to show ID and sign my name separately and this was checked against my licence signature

  • Can anyone confirm if the card is still Wish card equivalent? Is the discount only on the $100 bigw ones?
    Thanks

    • +2

My experience this morning, yes can be used as normal wish card at Woolworths etc. Gift card has no value, you can choose amount up to $500

  • +1

BigW 10% off physical gift card does not have $ denomination stated on the physical card unlike Myer or DJ or other cards that have $50 or $100 written on them thereofore Big W cards need to be paid at register where the employees has to put the amount we want to purchase onto the card. In doing this, we cannot pay with Woolies or BigW e-gift card because it is illegal as stated by Woolies and BigW due to money laundering possibility according to them.

I was also told that Myer and DJ cards or all other gift cards now have to be paid at staff register because those gift cards needs activation confirmation to make sure they are fully activated. Even though we can pay at self checkout counter with e-gift card, Woolies or BigW is not responsible for any failure of those machines in generating activation confirmation receipt (machine run out of paper, malfunction, etc). They are only responsible if we do the transaction over at their manned register with one of their employees. Hope this clarifies.

  • It is stated that Big W e-gift cards and physical gift cards can only be used at bigW only while Woolies gift cards are accepted in all their affiliated shops.

  • +4

Hi folks can confirm big w cards without " wish logo " worked at woollies .

  • +3

Bought one this morning and works at Woolies. Min gift card amount to be eligible for 10% is $100

  • +2

I just bought $5000 worth. Tested successfully working at Woolworths. The staff were quite unhappy about it. one said limit one per person, manager said 5 per person but they were just setting arbitrary limits. When I asked what the official limit was as per policy / t&cs they just gave in and let me get 10 X $500 After showing ID.

    • +1

What are you going to spend it on?

      • Why are they seeking ID?

It was not the case last time.

    • You should purchase the card then purchase more cards with it. Do this multiple times until the staff get mad and you will get more value in the card. If that makes sense.

      • Just wondering if anyone has tried doing this and if they have been successful buying gift cards from gift cards?

Still have some a bigW gift card left from Christmas… Wondering if I should buy more gift cards with the money I have on that card.

        • Probably to avoid annoying staff, do up to 3 gift cards. If you are in WA, don't go to Gateway store, they are not accepting people pay gift card with giftcard.

        • I just returned from Big W Riverton WA. Big W checkout system has stopped buying Big W gift cards with gift cards. The checkout terminal would not let the staff loads the purchase amount onto the new Big W gift card when payment is from any existing gift cards. I believe this would kill any chance of buying the Big W gift cards with gift cards. Hope this helps whoever is planning to try buying gift cards with gift cards.

        • @F1ngolf: oh nooo

        • @yht: didn't do bigwception but I just used my egift to purchase the bigw gift card so that's still good.

        • +1

@F1ngolf: I just returned from my local and can confirm that you CAN buy a gift card with a gift card. The system did not stop me, and the checkout operator just assumed I was using a credit card. I bought a $300 for $270 using my credit card, then a $250 for $225 using the $300 gift card.

Edit: I went back and bought a $275 with the $250. Cardception is well and truly working.

        • @Inflow: was this at self check out or manned counter?

        • @strawberrybug: mine was at manned. Last time it was possible at a self checkout too, but they had to come over and do it. Many told me I could buy a gift card St all at a self checkout, but that might be because they didn't know how to process it.

        • @puffinfresh: Correction: Many told me I couldn't buy a gift card at all at self checkouts*

        • Hm…interesting. Not sure if it's store specific. Anyway, good for you!

        • +1

@strawberrybug: Manned counter, I even said can I pay by e gift card and she's like yep, So yeah Giftception is happening lolz.

        • You inceptioners wanna say which big w's you're inceptioning?

        • I'm happy to report that I've managed to buy the discounted Big W gift cards with WISH physical gift cards at another Big W store in WA. Looks like the earlier encounter of not able to buy the discounted Big W gift cards with gift cards could be store specific.

        • -2

thanks guys for the info and lucky you!!

any giftception happening in Sydney? I'm going to try out a local tonight or tomorrow, fingers crossed….

        • -1

umm what the hell, not sure why I got negged ?! :S
          so confused.

anyway my local didn't let me pay with egift card, they asked for ID to verify against my credit card & said I can't use the new big w card to purchase another one. Worked at Woolies straight after.

        • I did it today too and it worked! Bought first card by credit card then buy second gift card by gift card

      • Unlikely to be able to do that this time around. The Big W cards are variable denomination from $10 - $500. Too much register attandant interaction required.

You could probably buy Ticketmaster gift cards with a Big W gift card though.

        • I think the system is not rejecting it but it's a manual check by the operator. I went to a manned cashier, once she saw me holding a bunch of gift cArd she asked me how I'm going to pay for it, if I'm thinking about giftcard or egiftcard, it is not allowed

        • @skylinebmwm5:
"if I'm thinking about giftcard or egiftcard, it is not allowed"

This is just want you think, I tried couple of time showing them the card and they did say it may not work, then I said it will and try using it in front of them. At the result they just learn a new thing and payment done.

Also just go to a un-manned check out then.

        • @LoveBargain15: you still require staff assistance to buy any giftcard

        • @yht:

Are you talking about using the BigW gift card to pay or buying the physical gift card?

        • +1

@skylinebmwm5: I never reveal my hand. I just say 'paying with card', they activate the EFTPOS machine, I swipe the gift card and put in the PIN. They can tell after the fact if they look at the receipt or the EFTPOS machine, because it says the balance left on the giftcard, but they generally don't notice, and if they do, it's too late.

As for self service, they have to come to the machine to go into their menu and put the right amount on the card. They then go away to write the expiry on the card, and which point you're free to finish up payment in whatever method you want.

        • @puffinfresh: my store had sign which said gift cards could only be bought at full service not self service.

        • @wxyz234: Depends on the gift card. If it has a set value printed on the card you can buy it at self check out. These Big W ones are variable value and need to be bought at full service check out.

        • @puffinfresh: I have been doing exactly that at my local area and they are just surprised that it's 10% off and paid it with the bigw gc. But I also went to a different one and they had there eftpos machine quite far away and was she waiting for my card and then said you cant lolz.

        • @LoveBargain15: I am referring to buy any gc at big w will require staff assistance

        • @yht:

But I am talking about using a bigW gift card at the check out.Two different things

  • I am renovating, so will spend at masters. Combined with trade discount of %5 =15% off masters which probably beats eBay 20% off for my white goods as eBay price is probably rrp + delivery. Any left over $ can always be spent on groceries.

  • thanks for the confirmation that it works at woolies guys. safe to assume it'll work at woolies petrol too yes?

    • Yes can someone confirm this ?

      • +3

        dont even need to.

Not sure how many times people need to confirm that these are just wish cards with a big w logo on the front

They work anywhere a wish cards works

This is a Big W branded WISH Card. As per the T&C's on the back of the card it will work at all stores on this list that accept "WISH Gift Cards".

  • +1

Went to hurstville and the girl said it's sold out? Out do you sell out on giftcards?

    • They are a physical object like many things in the store.

  • Really frustrating, went to Big W and I was told the Big W card will only work in BW stores.
I don't believe this is true but unlike the wish branded cards the BW doesn't say it can be used at other stores.
I grabbed 4 wish cards which showed all the other retails and went to the checkout but was told these weren't discounted.

I remember some time ago I had a Caltex e card which still had heaps of credit and was able to go to woolies and swap it for a wish card.
Asked the girl a Big W and she said she didn't know if I could simply buy their card then buy a wish card with it.
Seems like the staff are clueless or misinformed.

    David.

      Thomas Dux

Big w branded wish cards… They work at all wish card locations

I purchased $1100 dollars of the ones that look like the THIRD link you posted.

I can confirm my ones work for petrol, Woolworths, and I'm about to test it on the Masters website.

  • Have to pay at counter, no prob paying with 4 egiftcard and 1 gc, buy $600, pay $500

  • I can confirm the Big W gift cards work at Woolies.

    • To add onto this, I asked the person serving me at Big W if the gift cards worked at Woolworths. She said no. I saw a few other people saying otherwise here so I went downstairs to Woolworths and it did indeed work.

  • So my local ran out of red ones. But they have these other ones which are also bigw. Would they work? Does it actually make a difference

    • Read what it says on the back.
      Edit: Good tips

      • I dont think you read my message properly. I know you can use the cards anywhere woolies etc. I'm asking is only the red bigw card works for the deal or other pattern/design bigw gc work as well.

Anyway, ended up going to woolies and got s bunch of red bigw gc then went back to bigw to top up. Seems to have worked.

        • You should've written your message properly. "Would they work?" isn't very clear.

I'm glad you solved your problem.

        • just out of curiosity… did you need to pay for the gc when you got them from woolies?

        • @birdnw: They must have stolen them. Or borrowed :)

        • @birdnw:

there's no money on the gc itself. It's just plastic. I once got some stuff refunded from woolies for an online order, they said they can credit the money straight on to a gc. I can just go grab one off the shelf and then call up support to give them the number for them to put on the credit. Nothing dodgy there.

  • Had worst experience in Sunshine Big w, they didn't allow me to use credit card to purchase gift card. They said only cash or debit card can be used to buy gift card. Which is bullshit!

    • Yeah absolute rubbish. You should've thrown the T&C's in their face.

3.3 When purchasing Physical Gift Cards at any WISH Gift Card Participating Store, payment can be made via cash, EFTPOS or credit card.
