Acer eMachines Dual Core Notebook $508.95 after Cashback

70

I don't know if this is a good quality laptop or not, but the specs look great, and genuinely unbeatable for the price (net $499 plus $9.95 postage).

Let us all know any problems with this laptop, or, "why I SHOULD NOT buy it?"

Thanks for your opinions

These huge sceen notebooks are almost useless, although price is okay for specs

      15.6" is huge screened now?
It's a laptop, not a Netbook… (although some have argued otherwise for the Toshiba earlier today)

it is in my opinion maybe huge was excessive, a laptop would be a portable notebook, usually portable would be under 14"

        Actually its a desktop replacement

Not everyone needs to fit a laptop in their man purse. There is certainly a market for larger screened laptops so don't be so quick to call them 'useless'. Uselss for you perhaps, but not for many others.

It's like saying a Stationwagon is useless and everyone should drive 2 door cars. Horses for courses.

@zhenjie: actually, it's horses for horse floats, to continue your example

            :)

          • @zhenjie: it's not fast enough to be a DTR

i think most normal people have accepted 15.6" as being the avg. size of a cheap laptop

if you can accept the size, go for it…

14" has become a business size almost

This is a 15.6" Notebook Mikinoz… if you want a little netbook go for it, its your choice.

Why useless??… Most cheap "netbooks" do not even have an optical drive… thats what i call useless.

Regardless of the unrelated comments here it is a damn good buy for a robust basic notebook.

      Good find Shmahoo !!!!

      All sold out now though.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

surprisingly good value - can't expect much for 500 bills but if you want me to break it down…

    it's 15.6 (too big)
    it's acer (nuff said)
    it's 11g (no 11n?)
    it's 10/100 (no GbE)
it's only 1yr (some of the competition is 2yrs)

    could do a lot worse

  • oh yeah, 1,366 x 768 sucks

    • dude i know! what's with all these crappy laptops with low res screens these days?

      • Yeah I'd only buy a 15" if the res was higher.

  • 2.4 kg lol sux

  • i've dealt with a few of these laptops for work.

The cpu is bad, the network card is low quality, the build feels fairly cheap.

It is fine for a general purpose laptop, but they do come out of the factory with hardware errors. 4 out of the 14 we got had hardware issues… but for $500 its an alright laptop

  • I think a good deal for 500 bucks!
Surely better than some Celerons with Windows Home Basic being sold around the same price last year ;-)

It is not bad for a third or fourth laptop, or for someone who wants to use it for checking mails- without concerns about portability.

And the customer service of Catchoftheday was really excellent.
    Cheers,
