AskOzb: What's something that you used to be a cheaparse on, until you tried high quality and now you can't go back?

For me it's working footwear and the mattress. Especially the mattress, since the cheap stuff never lasts and you spend at least 8 hours a day sleeping anyway.

What's yours?

2$ croc style shoe from rejectshop, haha, never go back to pay more than 2$ for a shoe again!

  • Desk chairs. Now sitting on a Herman Miller Embody and would never go back.
NOTE: I unleashed my inner OzBargainer and haggled the shit out of a "damaged" floor model. 5 minutes with a torx screwdriver and it was as good as new. Paid $350.

  • Who sleeps 8 hours a day???

Was that meant to be a new forum topic?

      • Haha ha lol

  • It seems like these days its basically everything for me.

I'm not sure if its just something that happens when you are older but I'm always trying to get the best instead of the cheapest these days.

Avoid Shaw power supplies, it was ok until it completely deep fried my mobo.
Got a seasonic psu and worked like a charm.

  • Tldr - being a cheap arse costs you more in the long run..thus the quality buys and "splurges"

Pillows. I love my latex Dunlopillo. If you spend $10 on pillows you should consider spending more. It doesn't have to be latex.. get memory foam, gel, bamboo, whatever suits you. It made a huge difference to the quality of my sleep. The dunlopillos are regularly discounted 4-5 times a year.

  • European cars.. Jap/korean ones feel so flimsy! Rather 2nd hand european than brand new jap now

  • Mechanical keyboard - can't use rubber at home anymore
Shoes - once you get a good pair of boots, no going back

  • Used to buy homebrand toilet paper/aka sandpaper…
Now we use the other ones. I don't specifically name any because anything is better than homebrand.

    • Nothing worse than poo on your fingers due to cheap toilet paper breaking.

  • I used to buy second hand Japanese cars; I've now found them to be a waste of money. I bought a brand new Chinese Chery a few years ago and it's been fantastic. The only issue I've had so far is that it randomly caught fire; but I keep an extinguisher beside me just in case.

Same thing happened to a friend of mine, but it was a tv that caught on fire. Turns out it was caused by faulty Monster HDMI cable!

    External Hard drives.

I used to buy WD and Seagates cos they are on sale very often and are cheap. I had 3 WD's die on me within 12 months. Don't know what is going on.

I bought seagates to replace the WD's and the seagates life span did significantly better than WD but still experienced some minor problems.

Tried Toshiba and now prefer it. Toshiba brand rarely has sales and more expensive than seagate and WD but i found it to more reliable

  • Icebreaker merino wool clothing.

Over the last couple of years I've bought tops in various layers, pants, socks and even undies and boxers, and various jackets, when on sale. Now I pretty much just mostly wear Icebreaker all year round.
