You're welcome. Took a while to compile all the return prices, so hopefully it is useful.

    Good deal bru

  • Any chance on some good mid year Vietnam deals? $400-$500 return for 10-14 days.

  • is the Syd-Wellington $273 return? struggling to find any dates with that price

  • Jetstar any good for travelling with a bike?

      Yes/No

I've only taken my downhill bike once to Queenstown.

They're great in that it just counts as regular luggage. Just add 25/30kg or whatever and you're good to go. Just box up your bike securely and drop it off at the oversize counter.

On the bad side, something happened to my bike mid flight. When customs opened it up, there was oil everywhere in the box. Somehow all of the oil in my forks had come out and ended up everywhere. I ended up spending the first day of my trip at the bike shop getting them fixed.

Props to Jetstar, due to flight legalities, they were obliged to pay for all the repairs :)

      • Thanks! Do you know what actually happened to your fork? Impact or inversion or altitude air-pressure? Just wondering if I can avoid this, if I should lower the pressure in my air-shocks or something…

        • +1

No idea actually. The luggage compartment is pressurised, so I don't think the slight change in pressure compared to sea level (or riding on any other mountain) would have caused it.

I didn't see any signs of physical damage either. I think what's likely is that it was placed upside down and an o-ring slipped allowing the oil to come out, or there was an air bubble or something which caused it to pop out.

A friend flew with air forks(mine were coil) and he had no issues, although if I recall correctly he may have deflated them prior to flying. (Make sure to take a shock pump or drop in at the local bike shop and borrow one when you arrive).

Are you looking at Queenstown or Rotorua?

        • @downhillmtbr: Thanks again! Haven't decided Qtown/Roto yet, I'm an XC rider, better do some research ;)

Can't really go wrong with either! Enjoy :)

Wow thanks OP, perfect timing. NZ is such a great place for road trips. Last time I was there with the missus and a couple of friends, we rented a Mini S Cabrio and cruised all around NZ. One big loop from Auckland to Christchurch and back. It was a blast. Friendly people, great scenic routes, nice restaurants. We were just discussing about doing it again this year, and this just seals the deal.

  • Aww wish I saw this before I booked some flights to NZ just a few days ago… I will save your website for our next trip…. Glad to see your prices are indeed low…

  • Oh and thanks for posting the Return prices! It annoys me how the airlines often just post the one-way prices to make it appear cheap

  • damn… late to the party
