Hi I Want to Promote Our Newly-Launched Online Store. Hopefully I Can Get Some Good Feedback from OzBargainers

We are a boutique store that handcrafts custom bobbleheads for individuals and couples and have an online presence. Now we want to do a promotion so that more Aussies know what we do. I hope I can get some useful feedback here regarding our site and our products.

Our website url: OzBobblehead

What we sell?

Custom made bobbleheads. Typical case is that people buy them as a gift for their family and friends. The bobbleheads are made of resin material which is less fragile and more durable.

We are also considering giving out coupon codes for first few customers who would like to have their bobbleheads custom made.

Thanks everyone.

Post a deal on Ozbargain - if its good, youll sell a bunch in the next 24 hours and word of mouth will see your sales lift over the next few months

If its crap, youll get flamed so bad that you wont try again on here for ages

    Looking forward to the outcome…..

EDIT : holy smokes! $99 for one of those? Youre dreaming! Dont post that deal i suggested after all , it will be a waste of time, even if you halved the price

Just had a look on ebay - bobble heads look to be $10-$20.

Please explain your $100 price tag? Are the eyes made of diamonds or something?

This is customised bobblehead and it's handcrafted. It takes time to build. It's not mass built from a machine that you can get 100 of the same thing in a minute. Correct me if I am wrong, do you think the crafters' time and expertise worths only $10-$20 for dozens of hours?

      • Define had crafted please? Do you have a plastics artisan on staff, or does it come from a 3d printer or similar?

Is it made in australia or china?

Also , the generic bodies on this things are most definelty mass produced, likely in china

        • This is designed in Australia and handcrafted in China. Again, this is not from a 3d printer, and it is not mass produced because this is not CocaCola, not everyone gets a bobblehead a few times a month. We don't want to go broke by stocking bodies that people don't like. Handcrafting the bobblehead is a long process. It needs time to design, build, paint and costs to operate all these things. Please don't judge its quality by imagination.

@newguy: But the problem here is that people will compare your prices with the prices of generic non-customised bobble heads. This is OzBargain and not a connoisseur site for hand-crafted kitsch. Here, you will find that some folk will think the price is fine, but I am sure there will be plenty of folk who will baulk at paying $100 for a bobblehead (even if it is their head)!

        • @resubaehtgnolhcs: Thanks for the feedback. I guess you are right. I realised that it is hard to convince people that something is worthy unless they see the comparison, I mean apple to apple. For example, most shops here sell customised bobblehead much more expensive than I do and take longer time to finish the bobblehead doll, but without comparison people have no clue what that means. Anyway all I need is feedback for my site and products, either negative or positive. But I DO hope people do not label something before they know what it is.

@newguy: fair enough i wont judge…but youve really talked it up now - the production you describe is fitting of a statue at madame tussauds

Post it as a deal and see how you go - personally id pay $30-$40 at most

Maybe share some pictures of your artisans in the various stages of creation to boost your cred?

The pics on your website certainly dont look to be worth $100

You may want to read this - https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/prices-receipts/price-disp…

    Misleading prices may include:

a ‘before’, ‘was’ or ‘strike through’ price that is not the price those items were sold for in a reasonable period immediately before the sale period started

When I visit the home page of your website it is not obvious to me what you are selling.

Yes, the phrase "custom made bobble heads" appears multiple times… and it is completely obvious to you what that phrase means. It is not obvious to me.
What exactly is custom about these bobble heads?
Is it a DIY kit? (no)
Is it a mix and match where you pick a head, pick a body, and then order? (no, it is much more than that)
Do you just get to pick the colours for an existing bobblehead? (no, it is much more than that)
Nowhere on your homepage does it describe or advertise the fact that customers can get a bobblehead that resembles a photo.

Also, on the ordering page, the "footwear" option has just been randomly placed in the list of options. It would make more sense to group hair colour, eye colour and skin colour together. Follow that with glasses and hat. Follow that with the rest of the clothing options.

    • Thanks for your input. These are very good suggestions.

Show an actual example demonstrating a photo provided by a customer and the finished bobblehead.

    • Agree with this comment.
There is nothing on you page that instantly shows me why this 'custom' head is worth more than some random head for 1/10th the price. For all i can tell these are random 'cheap' bobbleheads, show me why they are worth more.

    • Thank you. That's what I am going to do next.

Advertising ,come off the grass we are fair dinkum aussies and will not be fooled by some "handcrafted in china" bull**it.

    • I found superman

Only $1300 US for ~500 units excluding freight and import fees.

      • Please don't label something before you know what it is. Your comment is very irresponsible and misleading.

        • If you click on my username you'll see that I'm associated with a brand found all over Alibaba, Aliexpress and Taobao etc. I know what I'm talking about ;)

Are you even based in Australia?

  • $100 is way too much. If it's made in China, you should be able to bring down your costs. Lots of desiigners design their products in western countries and produce in China,

You need to lower your profit margins or be more efficient, and take better use of the cost advantage producing in China gives you. Like the other poster above me said,$30-40 max.

    • Please don't label something before you know what it is. I am afraid I can't take your suggestion because I don't think selling something at below the cost price is a sustainable business. If you can find anywhere in Australia that sells lower than us we can do a price match.

      • Mate, clearly you're on the wrong website. If you can't take comments, don't ask. Everyone who commented shares the same general consensus as I do.

        • +1

Well educating the customers is one of the few things we are working on. I am here to ask for feedback for my site and products. I am surprised that people are mad at the price. In fact these dolls are popular in the US and they sell US$85 up which is higher than here.

$99 for individual at a regular sale

This is Ozbargain mate, you need to be on Ozripoff.

  • I just did a quick google for "custom" bobble heads and believe it or not this guys price is comparable to all others. I did find one US site that had them for US$67, but most sites have them for over $100 for single "custom" heads in a generic body.

No, I'm not associated with the OP or his company….just a google fanatic…..lol.

    • Actually the seller has the custom ones for $169…

  • +1

It took me a while to understand that you will custom mold a head, not only paint the doll with selected colours.

The name of your store let me think that yeah you will sculpture a head based on photos but when I visited the store with my mobile phone I just thought ah, generic dolls with some colour choices, $99, no way…

How about in the front page clearly advertise that the doll is made to resemble the photos you receive? Then a photo of the workshop with your sculptors on their work desks.

$99 is not bad, with proper marketing few months before xmas you get some people to pay up to $199-299. But not from this site :D

If you do not sculpture the head to proper shape, $99 is a ripoff.

I estimate that a good worker can finish from 6-10 custom sculpted heads per day. About 25 if they are just painted. Am I far off? :)

    • To answer your last question. There is no way a sculptor/worker can sculpt that much per day, unless you have 72 hours a day and you want to work like a non-stop machine. To give you an idea of how long it takes, most shops ship your customised bobblehead in more than 5 weeks unless you pay extra to expedite it.

  • Dont post it on ozbargain…its way too expensive and long wait (5 weeks) for ozbargain standards… (disregarding the quality of the product…) I think for most people here its not worth it…
