  • What's the battery life for one of these things?

Very good. You'd be looking at over 8 hours of video playback, and probably a bit more than that for light web browsing/word processing.

        Thought it was.

Perfect for those with Parents with High School students looking to support the BYOD program.

        • Many Byod lists though recommend at least 4gb of ram.

I'm currently using a Pendo device with 2gb of ram (for learning programming) and running a Web browser with YouTube running plus a PDF doc open is pretty much the limit. Opening any more apps ( even running background stuff like antivirus, one note and Dropbox) results in a very laggy experience as the EMMC isn't all that quick in memory swapping.

        • @scrimshaw:

I think is not the EMMC caused it to slow I think is the CPU.

        • @superforever:

Some of the BYOD specs can be a bit over the top. Some families in low socio economic areas should be able to afford this and therefore for basic browsing/typing word documents/power point use it should be more than sufficient.

At least 8 hours for sure. My daughter got one of those and has been using for more than a year now. It is now running Windows 10, Office full 2013 and Chrome. Still running pretty well.

Only complain about this laptop is the awful mouse-track-pad.

This one is an absolute value-for-money laptop.

      • Yes exactly this. Often a mouse is a wise investment.
I find students can get frustrated with the trackpads.

This is coming from a teacher of students in low socio economic areas.

I really don't understand the need of an Apple Macbook Air even for a 6th grader. All they do is browsing, MS Word, Skype, Google hangout. It is an overkill really.

          @dealspider:

Exactly I think the reason that schools over compensate with high specs and brand laptops is because they do want them to be durable and don't want parents coming in saying they were told to get an xyz laptop and they don't perform because their children try to run games/programs that aren't used at school.

I also tend to find if students need to use other programs such as photoshop etc schools will supply these laptops as it is a specialist class.

  • My Asus EeeBook say can do 11 hours.
