Even though it's free shipping, I wouldn't buy anything from EB Games simply because it's cheaper at Target/Kmart/Big W.

not always but i agree for some stuff. Just picked up a good deal with their buy 2 preowned, get 1 free offer. The also have other things (loot ect) that department stores dont stock.

      • +4

True, I guess they're only good for pre-owned games. Then again, you could always try eBay/Gumtree for second hand items if you don't need to purchase from retail.

Don't mind me. EB Games used to be my favourite shop and I would drag my parents there all the time. But now I know better (being frugal and all) ;)

ebay preowned is more expensive than new from JB/Target

Gumtree you're more likely to get murdered than get a good deal.

          @Putnum:

I've bought and sold plenty on Gumtree, not a single scar to show!

EB Games tend to either have sales on their new games, or sales on their second hand games - not both at the same time. I always go to EB Games when I can, they'll price match 99% of the time and the staff in my stores kick ass!

        • @Putnum: ebay is super expensive and sometimes even more expensive than brand new ones at Target or Big W but Gumtree is my gemtree always find cheap and good condition 2nd hand games.

        • +2

@Putnum: I have never been murdered on Gumtree…

        • +1

@Putnum: how many near death experiences have you had so far on gumtree?

pretty safe buying video games from suburbia during the day

Buying lab equipment/knives/swords/knuckledusters from industrial areas at night - not so much

best to excercise your common sense - if not sure, just ask the brains trust on ozbargain - we will set you straight

          @Slippery Fish:

I have ….. twice last week alone

you mean "buy 2 for the price of 3, and get 1 free"

        • +2

no, im an ozbargainer, not an idiot.

        • @Ronniefromdashore: just joshin', I don't doubt you got a good deal, but eg; $88 for preowned BLOPS3 is ridiculous

        • @mr kindface: yeah I know, some of their prices are crazy.

        • +2

@mr kindface: But if you buy three copies of BLOPS3, it's $58.6666667! What a bargain! /s

I would just not support EB games on principle. Their terrible customer service and rude sales team in stores are appalling and they only profit off unknowing parents and grandparents.

You do know you can price match? The few EB Games I have been to have been pretty friendly. Also most stores profit off unknowing customers btw.

      • +1

Well my regular store is brilliant, has staff who call me advising of new items up for pre-order that they know I'll be keen on, sometimes even put a hold on them too…. Tell me to trade games at certain times to take advantage of certain upcoming offers etc etc.

Never said no to a price match, even to stores who don't have stock or aren't nearbye.

    • Not 100% true… 95%

  • +1

actually you will find that all their profit these days is coming from the loot, hence all the amount of loot in their stores.

    • +2

Would not say all their profit. They are just trying to diversify as the digital market will put them out of business. They have started Zing here and bought think geek for the loot as you stated but they are also publishing games and some US stores are selling retro games. I personally always want physical games so fingers crossed that option will be around for as long as possible

  • Just be aware if you are buying preowned that you may get a copy that is missing the proper cover and/or manual.

    • Are you sure? Im pretty sure all the online preowned stuff comes in normal packaging unless stated otherwise.

      • Very sure. I've placed around 15 orders online for preowned stuff and about 75% of the stuff arrives in a generic case. I usually take them back when that happens so it isn't too much of a hassle. Apart from losing the postage fee.

      • Yeah more than half of my online preowned games from EB website came without the original cover. I would say it's pure luck to get a proper packinging from them

      • You'll never know until you receive your order sadly, they'll let you replace it at another store, but that takes a lot of effort etc

  • +1

It's silly quoting some of their expensive prices, you could do that at every other store too… no one is forcing you to buy a preowned copy of a game for say $95 $5 less than the new one…. they also have access to many exclusives, and price match, so for that they are quite good.

  • Only started spending again at EB games as of a few months ago because they had some reasonable prices on some preowned games i wanted - all a few years old, all last gen and most not popular titles.

They've jacked up the prices on all the other games i had my eye on in the past week (and the ones i already bought) so not going to bother buying more as they were still cheaper…even with shipping.

  • CeX stores have been good for me lately for pre owned. I got Fable II and III for Xbox 360 (for my Xbox One, backwards compatible games) for $3.50 and $5.00. Full case and manuals included. They give a 12 month warranty too.

EBGames wanted $14 each from memory and didn't even have stock of Fable II in 2 of my local stores.

  • Lol, got my order today. Ordered 3 pre owned games - One 360 game is an american region locked version. A playstation 3 game in a generic cover with no manual and the last game was a ps4 game with a heap of scratches. 2 of them were hard to find games, but i'll be returning them all for a refund.
