Please note: US Netflix is now blocked via PIA.

    • -1

not many of them do as all their ip's are banned and accounts are flagged by Netflix limiting you to watch the US store only on a pc

      • -1

how do you still watch it on PC?

      • +4

well that's not true and they don't limit you to watching US store, they don't let you watch at all.
There's still VPN's who work, but smartDNS's are a much better.

As for PIA. I've never used them, but there seems to be lots of posts on Whirlpool & Reddit which say their speeds are getting quite slow. So if you can find (or ask them for) a trial then try it.

Good news on their privacy (No logs is BS), but they rebuffed the FBI last year trying to track down someone (they were caught a different way).
        https://www.reddit.com/r/VPN/comments/49lezz/pias_no_logs_po…

But then again can get TorGuard for $us30/yr using TGLifetime50
they have 1000+ servers & claim the same (BS claim) of No logs.

Or NordVPN for $us36/yr using 70off

Keep an eye on https://www.reddit.com/r/vpncoupons for discount codes

well that's not true and they don't limit you to watching US store, they don't let you watch at all.

they flag your netflix account and limit you to watching the US store if you're using a known vpn IP address ONLY ON THE PC IT STILL WORKS!

          stop talking crap

        • @Makoto: Not on any of my PCs, it doesn't.

        • @Makoto: Didn't flag mine, certainly wouldn't let me watch US Netflix via various VPN services - worked fine on SmartDNS services.

And how would you be able to watch Netflix US is you don't use a VPN/SmartDNS?
But I'm sure lots of people would be delighted to be stuck with a US Netflix catalogue :-)

As for PC only works - that sounds like you've using the lastest Android App without blocking google DNS? SOme of the other apps might have been updated, it's nothing to do with using a PC per se.

        • -1

          @Jake D: ugh

if netflix flag your account and you're using a known vpn or proxy ip they limit you so you CANNOT watch the US netflix library on multiple devices. it STILL however works on a PC TO WATCH THE US NETFLIX STORE

WATCHING ANY OTHER STORE IS PERFECTLY FINE

even getflix idiots are reporting it happening

          Getflix ‏@GetflixAU Mar 7
For all non-tagged accounts can still access US Netflix from any device.

If your Netflix account is tagged, at the moment you may access US Netflix only from your computer.

i dont even know why i bother responding to you lot who have nfi about anything

        • -1

@Jake D: because your account isnt flagged yet you brainiac

  • PIA is slow as shit for me connecting to syd or melb nodes

    i get 100kb/sec max

    • +7

That's a real shame to hear that.

I also connect to Sydney and Melbourne, and can easily max out my internet bandwidth, which is around 950kbps.

Great price for a great service!

      • hmmm. what should i do then!? weird

      • 950 kilobits per second or 950 kilobytes per second?

        • Oops! KiloBYTES :)

      • I think the better your connection the worse it is. 100Mbps you might get 30 - 40Mbps.

    • +1

Shocked to hear, Not slow for me either and I connect to syd and melb, actually connected to syds now and no issue..

Have you sent them a 'slow speed complaint' or contacted them?

    • +1

I can get up to 5 MB/s through my utorrent client regularly. I haven't run speed tests for awhile but the best I've had was 7 MB/s. I'm on Optus Cable with a max speed of 12.5 MB/s.

      • Recently? That's pretty uncommon from my own experience and most others I hear.

        • Yep. A few times this week.

        • @sween64:

Sh#t, I need to check my setup.

    • +1

That's weird, I get close to my 50mbit speed whilst connected with the windows client

      • +1

Same, close to my max speed.

    • I know multiple people saying the same thing, personally I use alternative nodes and get great speeds, for toronto I get speeds of 1.1MBps approx. I find that pretty much most other nodes are better then the AUS ones for me.

    • Something is wrong then, as that's not representative of their speeds. Everyone I know in my area using their Syd / Mel sites can max their connections. I'm on ADSL2, and it does 1300KB/s here (which is almost identical to my max without VPN).

    • My sh*t's lightning fast as it is. YMMV.

    • How do you have it configured? You must be going through a really far node.

  • +10

LOL don't bother with PIA. When I inquired about the Netflix blocking their IPs, they simply told me they weren't going to do ANYTHING about it. I'm stuck with them for another year but save yourselves and get other VPNs.

    • yep..no good for netflix..

      • +4

Why would you encode, re-route, and decrypt your entire traffic to use Netflix when you can just use a cheaper cloaking service?

        • +1

exactly…dns4me.net with FB like & lovewp coupon is around $22/yr
Worth it just to watch multi-region Netflix, NRL live/replays (livestream Brazil) & WillowTV.

        • @supabrudda:

According to the banner on their own site, dns4me may not be working with Netflix anymore…

Netflix Issues - It seems Netflix has added geo checks to the video domains we are investigating the issue to see if anything can be done.

        • @oz-dave: Oh thanks I wasn't aware, it works for me as a Canadian :-)

        • +1

@supabrudda: Oh well you can always sign up to a 14 day free trial & see.

There's also a few other DNS services. But anyway worst comes to worst it much be time to fire up a roll your own VPN/proxy.

    • Now that Netflix is actively blocking the IPs of VPN and VPS companies, you're going to be hard pressed to find companies that will reliably work.

    • Can you point to me to the page on their website where they advertise that they unblock Netflix? Why would they bother doing anything about it when it's not a service that they claim to offer?

  • +2

I've been having tonnes of issues with PIA lately, I regret having bought a 12 month plan…. Barely connects to Singapore or Hong Kong.

    • very occasionally it will refuse to connect to anywhere. Usually exit the client and reopen fixes the problem. If not it takes a computer restart.
As for speed i can usually get about 75% of my connection speed, modem is synced at 6809 downloading between 400-500KB/s

      • A computer restart won't fix anything on a VPN. It's co-incidence at best.
A disconnect-reconnect (after a delay) might connect you to another server, which might see a speed improvement.

        • I connect to PIA at router level. Restarting my router fixes connection issues 90% of the time.

        • @Jake D: VPN's are like a light switch, they're on or off.
If you torrent, then that often floods the router DNS tables, so a restart clears that & will increase speeds. I used to have mine on a timer switch so it's power off/on every 6 hours, which helped a treat.

    • Try Melbourne or Sydney, I use Melbourne with a script to auto connect and write to file upon disconnect and the log file is empty, IE, it has literally never dropped or been unable to connect.

  • so for those who are blocked from netflix via PIA - have you looked into using smartflix?

    • Or Uflix as they say they have a workaround for US netflix.

      EDIT:https://uflix.com.au/netflix-fix-stage-1-of-3-complete/

    • Funny thing. If you use smartflix, it doesn't hide your IP if the content you're trying to watch is "Local".

So if I use PIA to show my IP as being in the US, and then use smartflix, I can't watch any US content!

      • +1

This is smart though, means people who use smartflix can use quota free netflix on applicable ISP's in australia while watching australian content.

  • So does it matter where you the select the city for p2p? I normally select Germany but it is better to select something more local?

    • don't think so - from experience netflix has a buffering protocol where you get better quality as soon as it completes it's first pass of streaming.

    • P2P shouldn't matter where the server is as far as throughput goes.

  • +1

Guys, the website says $99.95 not $89.95.
Do we need a coupon or something?

    • Mine says $89.95/3 years (Only $2.50/month).

No, you don't need a coupon.

But I will wait for a $30 US a year deal, a lot of stuff can happen in 3 years and I don't use netflix from the US

    • My page is saying $99 as well.

  • +3

I think a better way to get PIA if you're on Android is purchase a couple of Telstra starter kits when they're cheap, activate 2 of them, transfer the credit from one to another (via creditme2u), then purchase a 12 month subscription through the PIA app (currently $41.48) and bill to Telstra account.

I haven't tried this yet, but plan to try it when my subscription runs out later this month.

  • Does anyone use this to stream Twitch?

    • Silly Q, but why would you use a VPN for Twitch?

      • Because in certain circumstances its too slow without one, unpartnered streams can buffer because of routing/throttling.

  • I experienced very slow speeds when I was with these guys, to their credit they did refund me….

  • Ehh what's the point just pay the $60 fine if u ever get caught , and if it ever gets by our judges. Too much fart assing around for not much benefit

    • It's not just for torrenting.

      • -1

yeah i get that, but most of the content on even the US netflix is shithouse as well,……. in which case option you mention is the way to go.

      • -1

yeah i get that, but most of the content on even the US netflix is shithouse as well,……. in which case option you mention is the way to go.

    • -1

what 60 dollar fine? there is NO such thing

you cant be fined for illegally downloading anything!

      • +1

you kinda can, thats the whole thing with dallas buyers club , the reason why it was rejected, is they asked for way too much, ie thousand, if it ever gets passed it will be a few hundred dollars max.

        • -1

          youre talking nonsense

there is NO fine, the speculative invoicing is not coming here

        • +1

          @Makoto:

yes it is, it was ONLY rejected by the judge because they wanted TOO MUCH.

if they had taken a few zeros of the "fines" then the judge would have got through.

this is what will happen, they just need to cast the net far enough to catch enough people to make it profitable.

        • -1

          @T1OOO: wrong.

          speculative invoicing is not coming

        • +1

          @Makoto:

          Yawn

  • So I can contact this company for 3 years?

  • -1

Can anyone here tell me of a VPN that will allow you to watch US netflix? The comments seem to be a resounding no for PiA at the moment. I bought a 6 month subscription to Nord after reading a review on www.reviewmyvpn.com and they have been really good, however I have been getting region blocked for Netflix since about January. It's pretty frustrating given that I pretty much soley purchased a VPN so I could pirate Game of Thrones and watch US Netflix

  • Are there any PIA deals for those not looking for 12 months?
