I looked at PDS. Travel delays are not compensated. This is one of the major problem I had in my travels. I stick with Wooly's one.
If, as a result of an unexpected event, your travel is interrupted for more than 12 hours but you remain overseas on your journey, we will reimburse you for each equivalent expense type (including scheduled transport, accommodation, tours, meals and communication), the actual and reasonable value of either: (a) your additional costs; or (b) your unused, prepaid costs. Subject to the ’Sub Limits Applying to Section 2’, the maximum amount we will pay is the lower of: (a) $30,000 per Journey; or (b) the qualifying expenses you incur in the first 30 days you are delayed after the 12 hour interruption.
I am not talking about interrupted travel, but delays. There is a standard clause about 6 hours delay, and not just for oversears. Say your departure from Australia was delayed… The impact can be huge.

one thing to be aware of Southern Cross Travel Insurance is that it can only take 2 x 18 year olds in a family policy. ie. if you have a family with a teen in school and 18year old, you have to take 2 insurance policies (unlike others eg: Medibank)

I had a claim with them a month ago - lady on the phone was very nice. Then it goes to a claims team and they are Ok, you give them what they want and its settled within a few days.
