$19 still too expensive for me.

yeah lots of other beers id rather buy at 76 bucks a case..

  • It might just be me, but feel that the steam rail sixers are better value.

Hop Thief doesn't appear to be in the pic either which has been my go to JS beer for some time now.

+1 for sharing beer prices in any event.

    $49 for 24 in the deal here… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/237612

    ($12.25 per six pack)

    • +3

but can you get a single six pack for $12.25?

Sorry Guys, I forgot about the deal that JV pointed out (above) - but if you want just a six pack of Squires beers for some foolish reason, then you could still try Coles…

remember when Uncles Dans had Hop Thief for $10 for a 6 pack. good times

Is Hop Thief any good? It's one of the only JS beers I haven't tried that I'm actually interested in. JS just seems like another soulless shell pretending to be a craft brewery. I dislike One Fifty Lashes completely, The Chancer is pretty dull and the summer ale that just came out is pretty dull as well.

If I am looking for "mainstream craft" beer, I'll just go with Little Creatures for $3 more per six pack (btw if nobody has tried the Little Creature summer beer, its fantastic).

Then again, Feral is in BWS and Dans now so they'll always be Hop Hog.

      • There's more to Hop Thief than any of their "standard range" I won't bother with anything else from JS if I have the option (I rarely see their stout available)

If you like the Little Creatures Pale Ale then you'll like the Hop Thief.

      • Well, you know what they say about opinions…. for mine, Hop Thief is my favourite squires (followed by Spades/Porter).

As a beer devotee, Hop Thief isn't bad, but your 'soulless shell' remark is spot on in my opinion. I remember when Squire became popular - around the summer of 2004 they brought out their first excellent Golden Ale, which was really popular and within months both Amber and Golden were available on tap everywhere. Nowadays profit is more important than flavour (now that they have market share of the 'craft brew' niche), but they still manage to make the occasional drinkable beer. Amber, Golden and Porter have gone downhill, their wheat was never very good, Lashes varies from batch to batch it seems, and Hop Thief is okay.

At the prices we pay for domestic beers though, we should really be spending a few dollars more (or less in many cases) and getting something great. Sierra Nevada Tornado is easily available at bottlos near me and now comes in 500mL cans, making it cheaper for a four pack of cans than a six pack of bottles. Around $24 for the cans. If you haven't tried it and like hoppy beers, give it a go.

        • I'll look for it next time I hit the bottle shop. Have tried their Pale Ale and it didn't really catch me but given this is an IPA it might go better.

Beer price has gone up apparently. We no longer see 6 packs for $10, rather it is now for $12~$13 on Dan Murphy's specials and Woolie's dockets.

Beer price has gone up apparently.

      slabs haven't…

I hate spending more than $10 a six pack. I will drive to Dans rather than buy from my local IGA simply because the prices are so over the top. $19 is not a deal IMO.

Trawl ozbargain to find deals and save money ………. then blow the savings made on buying 6 packs instead of slabs …. not a good way to save .

The only time I buy 6 packs is when woolies or vintage cellars do the $10 6 pack deals ……… otherwise it's always slab.

    • Drunkards and reason are not friends.

  • Hammer & Tongs 30 for $30 is ozbargain beer
