  • Dohhhh I'm after a set for my flat bar :-(

    • I previously bought one of these groupsets without shifters for my flat bar. I then found the compatible flat bar shifters and bought them on eBay.

  • Does it come dissembled ?

      No pedals either..

      • They're listed as a option.

        1 x Shimano Clipless SPD-SL 5800 (105) Carbon Pedals +AU$87.36

I have bought this gruppo from Ribble previously, it comes OEM in various bags and boxes. It probably wont come with cables so you mayu need to buy some cables as well. I dont have any bike projects on at the moment or I would be all over this, great price!

    • I've bought this group from Ribble in the past and it included cables.

  • Also consider getting a KMC 'missing link' for joining the chain, cheap hack that makes life a lot easier. If you are making a cheap-ish roadbike you can get exustar plastic pedals (Keo Cleat style) for much cheaper, maybe $30 ish, the set I bought came with cleats! On my npormal roadie though I ride with Speedplay pedals, easier to clip in!

    • What sort of tools do you need to put a groupset on a bike? I was getting all ready to give my filthy bike a good clean a few weeks ago but got unstuck because I couldn't remove anything. I just ended up doing the chain (while attached).

If you are building a carbon frame you will also need a torque wrench. Over or under tightening something as simple as a seatpost collar could damage the frame. It sounds like you already have the frame, if not you will need a tube-cutter or hacksaw to cut the steerer tube to length for the forks as well. You will also need a pedal spanner when it is time to put the pedals on.

  • no wheels

  • Wow 5800!
I bought a Reid Falco Adv with parts of 105 5700 but don't fell any difference with my old Sora. :(
The only thing after my purchase is that I MISS my flat bar bike so much!!

  • looks like website got ozbargained… "bad gateway" as soon i got to checkout.. :(

  • what frame would you recommend for for this set, budget around $400?

    • Most Road Bike frames would do. I bought a 2nd hand Giant Defy Alux frame from an advert on Facebook and built it up with this Gruppo, have it as a backup/2nd bike. You could try one of the 'Chinarello' chinese carbon frames off eBay, some of the sellers on there like Carbonzone seem to get good write ups.

      • I'd keep an eye out on the Facebook 'Bicycle Market' group and on eBay for second hand frames - failing that, the China carbon's not bad either, especially now our dollar's bounced back a little. Hong Fu's a pretty popular seller. I've been riding a Velobuild bike for a while now and it's not too bad, but their customer service is so-so.

    • One thing I would be careful about is the 'Bottom Bracket'. Some frame types have a specific bottom bracket type that might not take the stock Shimano BB. Spend 20 mins researching the bottom bracket needed for the type of frame you are buying before you buy a frame otherwise you might need to buy a BB seperately from this Gruppo.

      • thank you for the info, I'll keep that in mind!
