90

big drop in Diesel Heater price- was $380. Don't know if this is a national deal or more likely a NSW store making space.

  • Is this any good to pump the heat under the house to keep the house warmer during winter?

    • +7

I usually just keep all the off-cuts from pruning under the house and light them up on cold days…

      • +1

You must age them properly, or the moisture in the wood makes them hard to ignite. The resultant smoke also tends to upset the little one's noses.

However I've found that the recent price drops have made E10 a viable method of encouraging ignition.

    • Would be an insanely expensive way to heat.

    Full Boar Diesel Heater $49

Might get one for the kid's bedroom… it gets cold in that part of the house and I don't like to leave the ducted heating on while they sleep…

    • +1

Might not ever wake up again after a few hours of this. Where do all the emmisions/CO2 go?
Guess these are for semi open spaces.

      • I was also thinking about the emissions, but I thought direct heating was always better for open spaces, how air just rises and the heat is lost, and in enclosed spaces the diesel can't be good

  • is this good?

    • +2

      it's full boar…

  • hold on… 8hrs from a 24 litre tank

    thats… not… good at all

    • True, but it doesn't take 8 hours to cook the full boar, even if it's a real Captain Cooker…
      At 31 cents per unit a 30 bar heater would cost 31 x 30 x 8 = $74.40. At $105.9 a litre, you'll pay $25.42 for the same running time on this.

You may find it is a little bit of overkill for the bathroom.

Either the decimal needs to move or the symbol had to change

        • Whoops - late night posting. Still, this thing would need to have only 30% of the efficiency of a corresponding electrical unit to cost the same..

        • @terrys: what is the 31c figure representing? Currently we are looking at 18c/kWh, IR is it something else?

        • @Jackson: The 31 cents is the Origin standard contract rate in Adelaide. The cheapest rate on energy switcher [winter rate, Alinta] is 27.4 cents per KWh. You seem to be getting it a lot cheaper than S.A. consumers.

        • @terrys: yeah I am assuming we pay more for connection

I guess what I am saying is it isn't worth the hassle or the fumes. If anything buy a gas heater that works off a bottle if you must, still has some fumes but probably less than diesel

  • May I ask in what situation does one need 30kW of heating power? And why one doesn't invest in a wood heater instead to achieve the same thermal output at a fraction of the fuel cost?

    • Painting/drying.

      • That makes sense I guess, didn't really think of that

    • +2

      Heating a large factory/warehouse.

    • A wood heater to give this type of output wouldn't cost as little nor would it be transportable.

  • It's not nationwide by the sounds of it. Called Rockdale store and they were still $389. Belrose have 2 left in stock after having one reserved.
