Sony T2 Ultra Smashed-- Please Help Me Find a Decent "Large" Replacement

So, it's smashed beyond repair & I'm gutted…I loved that phone!

I was lucky to get it during the HN sellout for $200 a couple of years ago.

Now? I can't find any decent mobile of 6 or 7" that isn't mega-money…

Can anyone here suggest a good replacement? I'm using a spare older Huawei, atm but I really miss that big screen.

Ta!

  • Have you looked at ebay or Gumtree someone might have a second hand one for sale?

    • Yes, looked online at gumtree & ebay.

Ebay US has one locked for about $180, but then I'd need to pay to unlock it.

Not sure what to do now…

Let's try that again. In ascending order of price and performance:

    Huawei Mate series for $300+

    Zenfone2 Laser 6", maybe around $380~400

    Read specifications http://www.gsmarena.com/asus_zenfone_2_laser_ze601kl-7479.ph…
This zenfone is a new release… only Dec 2015. It's running the newer-gen Snapdragon 616 SOC.

There's the Moto X Style, also known as the Moto X pure edition. It sells for $500 ish
    http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_x_style-7229.php

    For $600+
Then there's the very popular and highly rated Nexus 6p, expensive, but arguably the best phablet out there.

    • I like the looks (& price) of the Ascend, but for only a little more, the Zenfone2 Laser 6" has much better specs, but not very good battery…why did they only use 3000 w/FHD?

What do you think, personally- if choosing between those 2?

Omg…why did I have to smash it NOW!? I'm in the middle of a home contents claim & still trying to pick an AVR which is out of my depths…

      :(

I'm not a big-phone fan (and generally dislike big phones) so I can't comment, but I'm fairly certain the ASUS is better value, but the Huawei mate will have great battery life I'm sure with the 720p display.

I would buy the ASUS mainly because it'll be getting Marshmallow update, plus, it's got Gorilla Glass 4 protection plus a much better CPU. The battery is removable anyway, so I'm sure you will find a replacement online.

Mate 2 is pretty old now and is using a 32 bit CPU with first gen gorilla glass. For $330 it's still a bit expensive, I'd say it should be $200 nowadays.

If you can make do with a 5.5" display, the Xiaomi Note 2 is amazing value, less than $180 delivered from eGlobal.

As is the Note 3, it's $313 for the faster pro version.

        • Thanks for your input SS. I suppose what I want is the 6" size, 720HD, removable (long-life) battery & better internal storage/RAM than the T2 (8GB/1GB) had. 16GB/2GB would be fine. It seems that when you try to get a larger screen, though, they've put in a non-replaceable battery at FHD.

And good grief, do we in WA get hammered on shipping…$30 for the $163 Note2 (no earphones included, wtf?), $35 on the Note 3., $30 for the Asus…how can it cost less having a mobile sent here all the way from the US? :P

Right now, I'm back on my G526 Huawei until I can figure out what way to go. I did like the Sony layout & nice screen. Bummer…

Thanks again, everyone. I'll keep watching the deals.

          Cheers

      • Even for NSW I haven't seen lower than @$188 for the XN2 delivered from eGlobal. Anyone confirm whether Easter 5%-10% coupon valid?

  • Well if you want something similar

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/238809

There are Xperia C4's for $350.

  • Nexus 6p? got mine 2 days ago and loving it!
its pretty expensive outright but decent value if you dont mind getting a 2 year plan

  • Maybe a Nexus 6, dosnt meet all your criteria but its a Nexus with all that brings! Or P8Max 6.8" screen, apparently really nice build quality with excellent screen to body %

  • not sure what you think expensive is but you can stick with Sony . C5Ultra
has a 6inch screen, 13mp front and 13mp back camera, both with flash, fullHD screen.
Australian stock, Sony Aust warranty.$439 free shipping. They may even have a discount code here somewhere (or ask them for one)

I hve bought from mobileciti before and had no problems with them.

    • Considering I had the Sony T2 Ultra @ $200, paying double+ is a lot of money for me…The problem I keep seeing in the larger phones is the battery life being an issue (or, in this phone), many with heat/lag/screen issues.

I realize that with a lot of smartphones being released at the insane $1000+ mark, this seems cheap by comparison— but I keep looking & am finding not much innovation to defend the inflated pricing. It's almost as if the prices are rising & not dropping as with most tech after it's been out for a while? Is it the "new phone nuts" driving up RRP? I ask as I know a lot of folks who upgrade the second a new one pops up even though their current is fantastic.

Then, there's also the fact that buying "unlocked" isn't a "deal" compared to plans. I prefer no contract/Boost- so I'm in a worse spot than many, I guess.

Thanks everyone. I'm taking it all on-board & will keep comparing! :)

      • i have no problems with a battery being non-replacable.
I have the original Xperia Z from years back, battery is still fine (although I now have a Z5 from a month back as the Z started having a speaker problem, but it came good afterI got the z5 so maybe it was software and fixed it with an update.
And daily battery life with Sonys are usually great - turn stamina on and get a couple of days.

yes, makers seem to be slowly doing the apple thing and pushing prices higher and higher but $200 for the T2 must have been well after it was a current model, I think (yes I know its more) that around $450 for a current model that will get updates is reasonable especially seeing it is an australian model.

you seem to be asking a lot for $200, and going from quality name to a $200 chinese phone may be disappointing for you.

        • I bought the T2 Ultra the same year it was released. True, it was a HN sale, but still…And I wasn't as worried about replaceable battery (tho a nice feature) as I am the reports of phones with low battery life yet long time to recharge. Over-heating is another— which begets lag…etc.

I will say, though, that the C5 spec-wise is nice & being 6" is attractive. The Sony's have larger screen ratio than others.

          Ta!

You forget that the Australian dollar has tanked a lot lately since you bought the Xperia two years ago.

Back then AU and US was almost at parity.

Now it is 75 US cents. This has a major impact on the pricing of electronics, phones and computers included.

  • another option is to look at the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL, almost 6inch screen.
Look in Dick Smith in store and see if there are any phones on sale, our local had the oppo r7plus for a good price but didnt look at any others, they may have MS phones seeing people dont go for them compared to android and ios ones.

  • Is $439 the best? Really?

Not being a dick- just not been in the buying realm for a few years…

    • You can go to http://www.kimovil.com/en/compare-smartphone-prices

plug in your search criteria and it will show you a list

      • Hey SS,

That's almost exactly the pre-school interface I need- lol.

        I've ordered the C5, & I hope I get it & it's ok.

I only spend when I have to, & 99% of the time, only for my children.

This sort of expense, even for business, is anguish for me.

Thank you for your input & help, much appreciated,

        :)
