iPad Mini 2 16GB (Official Refurbished) $309 - Apple Store Online

130

Pretty cheap in my opinion. Same internals as iPad Air. These are official refurbished from Apple, which means basically everything is new except for the logic board inside the device.

They are indistinguishable from brand new apart from you get a plain white box that says refurbished on it rather than the branded box with pictures of the device on it.

Also I noticed there are a whole bunch of different model iPads available if you are after a different model http://www.apple.com/au/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad

Lastly, there will be an Apple event overnight, which may introduce a new iPad model. These prices are still cheap and most likely won't change (much), but just giving the heads up.

New Apple products are being unveiled tomorrow at 5 am AEST (I think that's the correct time).

Don't buy anything Apple now or you'll probably regret it.

        Mine is more detailed.

edit: seems like my edit didn't go through. oh well

I know cheap is good, but for $36 more from Officeworks you can get a brand new iPad Mini 2 16GB. I would expect a bigger discount for going down the refurb path to entice me.

That's true, but Apple refurbished are basically brand new if you want to save a bit of money and don't care about the thought of it being refurbished.

      • You have to wonder what happened to the iPads that these logic boards came from. Is this a general failure of some other part, or were repair costs unfeasible (would I knowingly choose a device that is not cost effective to repair?), and if so, how did they then become refurbs in the hands of apple.

        • they generally dont repair cracked screens. That is my bet where they come from

        • @Matt P: interesting. So how do these end up in the hands of Apple?
Is it that once received for repair they generally don't repair them, and instead sell them as refurbs?…

        • @chyawala: you hand yours over and they give you a refurb for about a hundred bucks less than a new one

      • got my brand new mini 2 a while back when Myer on special + 9% TRS when travel to NZ = $300.

correct me if wrong = refurbished has 12 month warranty instead of 2 years as brand new.

One of iPhone, a 5s, was playing up with battery issue and switched off by itself, Apple Store replaced the out of warranty phone with "new" - remanufactured phone. First one the battery was empty, upon recharged and switched on, the rear screen played up with vertical lines then dead within a week, replaced second time, the "new" phone switched off prematurely again with battery, besides time wasted to go back and fro, it is in my mind that the remanufactured phone can always be a time bomb. It's like when you hear people getting a lemon jeep or bm.

will definitely get a brand new one instead of refurbishrd if at the same price,

  • "These prices are still cheap and most likely won't change (much), but just giving the heads up." True, but I have found the models shift through price, so the iPad Mini 2 refurb may be reduced in price

  • "you get a plain white box that says refurbished on it"

Is that a new thing or is it only for iOS devices? Refurbished Macs I've purchased have been identical to retail packaging save for the model number on the box.

    • Not sure!

    • I bought a refurb airport and box was plain refurb, not retail.

Why is this posted as a deal?

Prices are Apple's standard, no discounts or anything else special about this.

Apple always sells refurbished iPods and iPads - this is the normal price.

    • +1

It is cheaper than retail for the device and people may not be aware of the refurb option.

    • They don't always sell refurbished products. If you look on the refurbished page, most items are greyed out. I just thought the iPad mini 2 was good because it's the cheapest iPad and it's the same specs as the iPad Air and the cheapest (or close to) on OzBargain it's ever been.

They don't always sell refurbished products

Apple always sell refurbished products. It has been a standard part of their website for many years, and is linked off the main sales pages.

Sometimes there is low or no stock (hence why some items are greyed out).

I just thought the iPad mini 2 was good because it's the cheapest iPad and it's the same specs as the iPad Air

But the screen is much smaller, and the Mini has always been cheaper than the Air (and the earlier large iPads).

and the cheapest (or close to) on OzBargain it's ever been

Perhaps, however it's not a fair comparison because you are comparing New (Retail) to USED (Refurbished).
