  • Anyone able to share their buying experience on getting it from Kogan ? Is it white box or proper Nikon box and arrived ok? Also will Nikon service non Aust stock , quite aside from the issue of no local warranty for these lenses.

This is a very good price - a new lens for the price of a used local model on which there is no warranty anyway.

    • Two of my family members have bought lenses from Kogan in the past 2 years and haven't had any issues. Girlfriend also bought a Macbook and iPhone at EOFY 2014 which are still going strong. I had a look at the used price on ebay and figured I'm not too worried about warranty if It's the same price as a used copy! If you have major problems in the first six months, you can always submit a claim through Paypal if Kogan doesn't play nice?

      • Thanks, my thoughts exactly. Although I don't get the 6 month PayPal thing tho?

Actually nvm I see what you're saying.

        • My lens and phone are fine …out of warranty now and still going :-)

  • bought one,thanks

Only Nikon electronic goods are country specific with warranty i.e, cameras, flash etc. I bought a Nikon 105mm f/2.8 lens in Hong Kong that I had problems with in Melbourne. It was repaired under warranty for free. They did try to say that it was a grey import untill I imformed them that Nikkor lenses have a world wide international warranty.

    • You're absolutely right, I just assumed that they'd gone the way of Canon. However the warranty only applies if the lens was bought from an authorised Nikon dealer somewhere in the world. No idea if Kogan is in that category.

Nikon don't repair grey lenses. If it had an international warranty then it's not grey market.

  • That's a great price. I have a few grey market lenses but the last few have been Aussie stock as the difference in price haven't been that great. But this certainly makes it worth a great import.

Edit: Too good a price and picked one up…Thanks OP

  • Ridiculously good price. My go-to travel lens <3

    • Going to Europe soon, could I get away with just this lense? Trying to travel light.

      • Yep, I definitely think so. The image quality is very solid, and fairly fast, but not too heavy. Even on my full frame D600, I didn't feel there were times I wanted extra zoom. The only thing is on a crop camera, it's not quite as wide but given the overall quality, I wouldn't really miss it. I paid full price years ago, but I've never regretted my purchase. http://sunburststreet.aminus3.com/

      • No. You will also need a superwide. Plenty of churches/cathedral and castles that 24mm FX will not fit everything. Will suggest adding a Sigma 12-24 DG EX, or similar.

        • I have a cheap wide angle screw on that should fit the OP lense. I'm really just looking to take awesome quality photos that don't come from a phone and can zoom a bit.

          When zoomed right out the wide angle add on that I have gives black corners though;

        • @Mechz:

Wide/Ultrawide lenses does have vignetting issues. (some are not noticeable, and could be corrected via image processing softwares). Not anywhere close to the extend of the screw-ons.

Screw-ons also associates with distorting the images, flares, reduced sharpness, and so on.

Wides are cheaper on DX mount than FX. Online reviews would give you ideas of pros and cons of each wide lens.

I have previously travelled europe with 24-70L and struggled with the wide end.

Came back this year with a 12-24, 24-70 and 70-200. 24-70 was mostly used, 12-24 was great for cathedrals and castles. 70-200 untouched.

      • I went to Europe 2 months ago and used a Nikon 16-85mm lens, that served pretty well specially the wider end being 16mm

        • 16-85 is a cropped lens and wont capture the whole ceiling of the cathedrals? Because that's a 24mm eqv.

        • @googleyahoo69: in fact, even 16mm is still not wide enough in some situations. I used 1635 last year on a trip to europe and left 2470 home. didnt regret at all.

  • What is the equivalent for a Canon?
Kogan has both price before 20%, I'm new to DSLR with a Canon 700D
Canon Camera Lens EF-S 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM Standard Zoom Lens
    $381.99
    Or
Canon USM Lens EF 24-105mm f/4L IS Camera Lenses Canon Lenses
    $871.99

    • The 24-105mm. It's a constant f4 unlike the other one which changes as you zoom.

      • M… 24-105L…

  • Got the lens delivered today. Only got an email earlier this morning saying it's been shipped but on the tracking it went out on the 25th.

Sent via toll so it looks like it shipped from Oz.

Edit: the lens came in a white box. All my nikkors have come in gold boxes…lens looks brand new but not sure why it came in a white box with just the lens name printed on it. I have a feeling it's refurbished.

Or it could be split from a kit, seeing as this lens is often bundled with d750's etc. For all kogan's rep I don't think they'd pass off refurbs as brand new on eBay.

      • That's possible mate. The lens is in new condition and the quick test I did it works well. For the price paid I'm pretty happy with it. Just always had original boxes with all nikkors so this was an odd one out.

    • got mine yesterday too. expected a white box considering the price ($1250+ if you want a gold box). the white box is because of the kit split as gadget mentioned. i'd say the oversupply of brand new ex-kit lenses is the reason for the awesome price.

just a side note on the lens, the bundled hood is a nuisance. massively increases the bulk of the lens, even when reversed. i think i'll grab a screw-on rubber hood off ebay to replace it.

      • That lens hood is big isn't it. Nothing like other lenses I own.
