But you can add networks and password. Eg: Starbucks on the corner of North and South street password is "BananaFrappucino" this week.

        What do you mean passwords?

Free WiFi doesn't have passwords, right?

But you can add networks and password.

So what? My phone does that automatically :-)

Seems absolutely pointless. You can see that this App doesn't explain itself very well, does it?

You are confused between the words open and free regarding wifi.

Open wifi is what you are talking about - wifi networks that do NOT require a password - are considered OPEN networks.

Free wifi is internet access provided by someone effectively offering free internet. Free wifi hotspots can be protected by a username and password - they are not mutually exclusive though.

The app just gathers the credentials for free (and some not-so-free) internet access points when users add them and share them with the other users.

Open wifi points are included in the app - as well as free hotspots which require credentials.

My reading was that it's crowdsourced passwords. Venues do change passwords, so when they do, they're presumably updated in this app. I'm just guessing though, haven't used anything like this before.

    • It does actually give passwords out.

      • Which it gets from??

        • community / crowd sourced

You are missing the point. Say you are in the city and need access to internet. You open wifi settings and find all networks around you are secured. What will you do? Stop someone and ask him/her where to get free internet access?

  • … Nigeria lol - seems a little sus tbh. Thanks Op, I'm not game enough with this app.

    • Yeah classic Nigerians. But if it helps the app doesn't need any personal data to use, and you don't have to contribute to the passwords. Though I will let you know if I notice some Prince stealing from my bank account

      • Lol, ok - look forward to your results. Cheers!

  • awesome, thanks

    Sent from my PendoPad

  • Brilliant - now anybody can DNS poison you, and serve up fake or parodying bank and other websites stealing your details.

    • That's why you use a VPN

And you might as well take your own mobile internet as well…

    microsoft has this inbuilt

    • whats "this" that Microsoft has inbuilt?
Are you talking about a feature or app on Windows mobile or Windows 10?

  • On Microsoft phones its a feature don't remember what they named it

    • Cool story bro

Microsoft's WIFI sense doesnt really do what this app does. It does some parts, but misses the crowdsourcing part for secured wifi - it only offers crowdsourced for open.

Microsoft's WIFI Sense offers the following:
      - Open WIFI points that others have discovered [part of what this app does]
      - Secured WIFI points that your FRIENDS have shared with you

      http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows-10/wi-fi-sense-fa…

      Missing
      - Secured WIFI points crowdsourced by all users

  • This is actually a pretty good App! I'm currently in Vietnam, and it immediately showed my current location on the map, with at least 100 blue dots around me. Each blue dot represents a wifi signal, and when you select one, it displays the password for that particular WiFi signal. Either the owner, passerby or someone who has used that wifi before has added the password into the app.

I downloaded this expecting it to be useless, but I'm pretty surprised. It seems loads of people are adding data to it. Definitely worth a download if you plan on travelling!!!

    • Have you tested any of them out, yet? I was walking around in Melb CBD so I had a go for the sake of it and unfortunately, a lot of them seemed like outdated passwords which didn't work. I ended up uninstalling it in the end…

OP? Tell the truth, are you a Nigerian scammer?
