If you shoot B&W Silver Efex is a must. Really nice syrupy B&W.

Ooooh, tell me more. I shoot color but convert my stuff to BW because I like how the photos turn out. Any tips with this collection in that regard?

        • +1

Not, it's not a must. Some people like it. I keep going back to my custom LR presets.

@Mic Cullen: What sort of idiot downvotes this? #ozbargainmorons

          @cnut:

Nothing specific off the top of my head. The default rendering just seems nicer to me than a basic PS conversion. No doubt you could achieve similar results manually but if you don't want to waste time on that I'd recommend giving it a go. You can of course tweak all the presets to suit your style/preference. Enjoy!

        • @MissKitty: Might be a noob Q, but where is syrupy B&W preset in Silver Efex?

When was the MacBook 700$ ?!

    Thanks.
I am guessing that Google is just going to abandon the software. I don't think is been updated since goog bought it. Especially reading their statement why it's free (basically saying mobile is import not this software)
Hope the original owners and staff got some good money for it.

Snapseed was launched by Nik Software as a low-cost desktop photo effects/editing tool, but when Nik was bought out by Google, people started saying that google has ditched the desktop version along with Nik collection and focus only on Snapseed. However, there has been many updates since then.

      • yeah, but now they are saying the reason it is free is because mobile is the way they are heading not desktops.

They may have had bug fixes/compatibility fixes but have released any full new products.

I just think it is getting close to the end of this software from Googles point.

    • I used to deal with Nik before Google bought them. They created Snapseed with the goal of being bought out by a big player in the mobile market and it worked, Google paid big bucks for them.

  • Thanks OP!

I loved using the Nik software (many versions ago before Google took it over) and I found it a great product to use. I moved over to Aperture 3 for it's library capabilities and well we all know what Apple have gone and done there! So for those looking for Pro photo editing tools on the Mac who never had an Aperture copy to retain and don't wish to get fed "one-touch" photo editing software "Photos" (what are you doing to your pro fans Apple?) or buying Lightroom then this is a welcome surprise.

Hmm on further investigation it looks like the Nik software needs a "host" photo editing application. In my case it should detect Aperture and become available plugins from within. So the Nik collection can't be used stand alone anymore?

      Licensing and Compatibility

The original purchaser is allowed use of the Nik Collection on two computers. The software is non-transferrable. To ensure compatibility, please review the system requirements:

      Mac: OS X 10.7 through 10.10
Adobe Photoshop: CS4 (CS5 for HDR Efex Pro 2) through CC 2015
Adobe Photoshop Elements: 9 through 13 (apart from HDR Efex Pro 2, which is not compatible with Photoshop Elements)
      Adobe Lightroom: 3 through 6/CC
      Apple Aperture: 3.1 or later
      Windows: Vista, 7, 8
Adobe Photoshop: CS4 through CC 2015
Adobe Photoshop Elements: 9 through 13 (apart from HDR Efex Pro 2, which is not compatible with Photoshop Elements)
      Adobe Lightroom: 3 through 6/CC

  • Good little set is filters. Silver efex is the best out there for black and white.

  • Great find, I love the Nik tools!

  • tanks OP Always wanted to use this software.

  • I have been using this software for years and it's bloody fantastic. As stated previously, Silver Efex is just awesome for B&W.
I do most of my editing with CC and ACR, but like to use this from time to time to do various effects. Highly recommended.

  • I have Nik plugins already. Agree they are fab. Are these two now free permanently or limited time offer?

  • This doesn't work standalone right?

  • Fantastic. Thanks.

  • Good software, purchased about 8yrs ago for $300 used to be sold in modules. Mostly use LR & PS but occasionally use Nik certainly worth having.

  • Fanbloodytabulous. Used it before Google took over just for Silver Efex when Nik was seperate modules. Didn't like the new all-in-one approach but now price is right so all is forgiven :)

  • AWESOME!

  • amazing deal

  • Sorry for the noob question, but is it a standalone software? Or do I have to own Lightroom already installed on my PC before Nik Collection has any use for me?

  • Now everyone can Get Nik !!!

    yay !!!
