geocaching.com has released a new, free, iOS/Android app and halved the price of premium membership—normally USD$29.99/yr, now $14.99/yr.
Premium membership is now basically required if you plan to use the iOS app when caching. Premium membership is required to locate caches that are rated higher than 1.5 terrain/difficulty, or multi-caches etc.
Woah what! Used to be <$20 at regular price. I only use a free account these days (but have been premium in the past) and still get multi-caches and caches higher than 1.5 terrain/difficulty, only a few that have been set to premium arent available. Unless this has changed recently for new accounts?
I've been paying 30USD since 2012. I am happy with the discount.
You can use geocaching.com.au to see the premiums nearby - multicaches or puzzle caches wont work because it needs the data off the website
Ahh looks like only the new free app doesnt allow you to view anything but basic caches. If you use android i highly recommend C:Geo. Free app which works 1000x better than the official one. Couple that with pocket queries generated with geotoad and its a very powerful system.

Saved every cache in the state as GPX files and loaded them up to a 6 year old phone with a map file and thats what i use to cache

It's a good deal for those who are not already Premium but it stinks for those of us who diligently pay our $30 each year.
Agreed. Would be nice to get a price cut. As a casual cacher, I've always found $US30 a bit on the high side.
Yeah, I've become more casual in the last few years, to the point that I can't justify the $30 any more.
And I'm guessing that the promo is only for the first year. Then it'll jump back up to US $30…
