  • can you use one ofthese types of sticks with Foxtel Go? has anyone tried?

    • Android device? Yeah. Even Android TV devices have side launchers to do this. Although you may need a mouse because it thinks it's a touch screen device. Really annoying tbh, but not impossible.

      • All I read says phones or tablets, no android boxes ever work.
Do you know of one that does?

  • It's concerning that even though HDMI 2.0 is stated almost everywhere, the specifications state that it's 1.4b.

    • Typo. It's HDMI 2.0.

      • It's all over the place. Would Definitely fix as it even appears to come with an Ethernet port. A selling point for some.

        • Thanks. Both have been corrected.

        • appears to come with an Ethernet port.

          No.

10 / 100M, via Micro USB to Ethernet adapter

          (This is not included.)

        • @McFly: That was changed after whatzup101 made the comment.

Which is better value? I received a Geekbuying newsletter with this at $29.99 USD

This shows the differences between each chipset

      http://www.minipcdb.com/articles/Amlogic-S905-vs-Rockchip-RK…

      • Hmmm. So the AMlogic apparently does not do 10-bit H.264 (Hi10p) video. That could be a dealbreaker for some.

I'm only needing it for Youtube though, since I have some Youtube addicts in the house.

Do you know if the new MK808B Pro still has Wifi issues? I knew back from 2013 the older gen MK808B had weak wifi.

Correct. CNX-Soft tried in KODI and it didn't work.

Reviews on the MK808B Plus indicated that the problem has been fixed.

    • Scrim that one you linked to looks good does the remote act like air mouse?

      • +1

        It says: IR remote.

I guess this remote is not bluetooth, it's really just like a run-of-the-mill television remote. I guess it will be incapable of transmitting any mouse movements, you'd need Bluetooth for that.

But.. for $41 AUD delivered, it's pretty damn cheap. Can't complain.

Very tempted to buy it but I'm saving up for a HTPC upgrade. HMMMM decisions, should I upgrade the HTPC from LGA775 to a newer platform or buy this to replace the HTPC…

        • Dude, nothing beats a HTPC. Grab some cheap Intel 2xxx hardware used (FYI, there's a bunch of amazing Facebook PC hardware Buy/Sell groups where you can find wicked deals), and build something awesome.

    • I bought one of these a little while back and use it every night. Pretty happy with it. I just bought a decent remote separate.

  • I wouldn't buy the TV Stick ever again because the WiFi signal is extremely poor. It keeps disconnecting every few minutes.

    • It didn't seem to be a problem in the MK808B Plus according to reviews like Darkscythe's

    • I have an MK808B Plus from a few years ago and I don't have WiFi signal issues. It's not overly far though (1 storey), but there is no line of sight.

      • I have the MK808 older version and it's a piece of junk. I used it for a few days and returned it got a refund.

I bought the Minix NEO X8-H for almost 2 years now and it plays everything up to 4K/30fps without lags.
The WiFi signal is very strong and the player still in excellent condition. I don't think I need to buy a newer model in another 3 years time.

I've got both the MK808B and MK808B Plus. The MK808B was awful but the company did improve the situation with the MK808B Plus. Wifi isn't particularly fast though - It doesn't compare to the newer boxes and sticks that I've tested.

That said, not sure what the antenna setup is like on the MK808B Pro. There's been significant improvements in wifi performance on compact mini PCs (i.e. I've tested a number of Windows sticks that have great wifi performance).

  • does this come with a remote?
if not, how is it controlled?

    • +5

It has a full size USB port, just plug in a wired / wireless USB gamepad or a wireless Logitech KB. The K400R is a perfect peripheral for this kind of thing, as it includes a touchpad.

    • +1

No remote. You can connect a mouse, keyboard, remote etc via Bluetooth, USB port or USB OTG.

I personally use the Logitech K400R.

    • No remote so you'll need to hook up a keyboard and mouse or an airmouse. I'd recommend the K400R (I use it for my HTPC setup) or something like the MeLE F10 Deluxe.

  • @Rep

Do you sell the remote control only? If yes, how much?
    http://image1.geekbuying.com/ggo_pic/2014-11-20/201411200185…

    • Nope. It's not sold separately.

      • Are you sure? Just googled and found a store sell it, but they sold out. Will contact them directly then.

        • Yep. Nothing at Geekbuying for that remote.

  • does it play MKV files? our brand new samsung 50 inch tv doesnt seem to play mkv files, which annoys me.

    • Buy the Minix brand if I were you. You get nothing, but headache.

  • Does it support HDMI-CEC (ie: can I use my TV remote's nav to control KODI on the MK808B) ?

    • I'll find out.

The previous version supported CEC with mixed results.

  • A warning: I don't suppose this can actually render and display videos at 4K?

The other cheap chinese Android devices will decode (some) 4K, but rendered to a 720P framebuffer (1080 if you are lucky??) and maybe upconverted for 4K output.

(But if you don't mind 720P, the old mk808b-plus was excellent value. )

    • +1

      Yes it can.

CNX did a test on the chipset with a different box and it played 4K in several codecs fine.

      http://www.cnx-software.com/2015/11/27/h-264-h-265-4k-video-…

      • Most reviewers don't notice if the quality if genuine 4K or upconverted. They will just see that the sample played, and looked good.
So frankly, it doesn;t matter much if its real 4k or fake.
But you can check the framebuffer resolution in Kodi, or a sysinfo app.

        • +1

CNX are far from being amateur reviewers. One of the few sites that accurately report on ARM devices.

        • @Clear:
OK. On second thoughts, the fact that Kodi fails suggest it is real 4K. Am just cautious after being burned before, despite reading reviews.

        • +1

@manic: so basically whatever his answer was, you were not going to be happy haha

  • Single cycle processing capacity to improve 1 times
    Bandwidth saving Lifting Speed
4k 1080i/p resolution is 4 times of full HD so every detail of the screen is lucidity

Sounds good - I'll buy 1 times as many as I was going to.
    Mr. Sulu - Lifting Speed!

  • Why can it only support such small microSD cards? I'd like to use it purely for offline Spotify plugged into my receiver but 32GB isn't enough.

    • 32GB is the official amount that is supported, but some larger cards may work. You can always use the USB port though.

  • So I can use this to install any android app like I have on my phone but play them on TV, right?

    • Yep.

      • Thanks can I use my android phone to control it instead of using wireless keyboard? I think there are app can do it.

Another question is it OK to get power from TV USB port instead? So that it will turn off when I turn off my TV.

I got A$45.30 after applied the code?

  • If I am running Kodi, can I install video add-ons like on my pc? I want to install the Livestream add-on in particular, which works great on my browser.

    • Yes. You can install addons in Kodi like you normally would.

      • Great thanks mate.

  • Had anyone else received theirs? I got mine yesterday and an having problems with the WiFi. Connects, but drops or continuously and even when connected only sees the local network, not the internet.
