I helped find a guys lotto ticket. He is not talking about a reward for me. What should I do?

I helped an old boy find his lotto ticket.
Located it and he got paid $101 000.00
I even mentioned to him that if I help him out,is there a cut for me.
He got the cheque and cashed it.
He is not talking about a payment for me.
Should I remind him about the cut for me or just let it go?

Haha just because you helped someone find a lotto ticket doesn't mean you instantly get money if they win.

      • +32

Verbal agreements are worth the paper they're written on.

  • +9

You can't really do anything about it. If you win next time or he requires help from you in the future, maybe remind him about your past experiences.

  • +125

If we help you get a reward what is our cut? :P

    • +37

the same amount that he originally got..

Then u can make a thread in this forum called

I helped get a reward for a guy that help find another guy's lotto ticket. He is not talking about a reward for me. What should I do?

      • +9

        lotto inception! O_o

  • +85

OP owns an investment property and 'earns decently - Maybe, just maybe, you don't need to take a cut off the old guy?

      • +22

I am being fair, how long did it take you to look for the ticket?

    • +33

Now you realize how OP accumulated his fortune.

    • +2

      this guy is pretty loaded

      -Which BMW To Buy? 2004 M3 or 3005 X5?

  • +17

Well done, you score karma +1. This is your reward. Hope the old bloke enjoys his winnings.

    • -1

maybe in the end the lotto win is a curse..

"Lotto winner killed while driving in his new sports car…"

  • +20

Why you money grabbing son of a…….. Sometimes it's just good to help ppl

  • +6

Can't really ask for a reward. But I think the old guy should have dropped you 1k for helping.

Unless of course you were both in the line at the newsagent and he dropped his ticket and you picked it up and he asked if you saw where it went and you said "is there a reward if I find it" and then handed it over, lol. So yeah, was this something he would not have found without you?

    • -1

Maybe op had it in is pocket

but knew there is no way he can cashed this…
so made a proposal to help "find" it.

  • +1

How old was this "old boy"?

    • +18

12 - right on the cusp of becoming a young man

        • +22

I know sarcasm can sometimes be hard to identify over the internet without body language and verbal emphasis.

          But really mate?

        • -1

@QW3RTY: I think you're the one who missed the joke

        • +2

@tomkun01: oooo the tables been turned.. now no one knows who said what where why how sarcasm sarcastic

      • First thing he will buy is some hookers..

  • +15

    ok attention ozb members!!!
next time you find or help finding lotto ticket call lawyer first to draft legal agreement just incase it is a winning ticket.

  • +12

I guess the old boy just grabngo with his winnings.

  • -3

how is it that u guys always find the lighter side of things?
    Love love love it

    • +26

The reason they find the 'lighter side of things' is because they're not in your situation. I'm sure most of these people telling you to suck it up would be acting differently if they were you.

Let's be frank. The guy who you helped is a knob for not giving you at least something for helping him find his ticket. That being said, he doesn't owe you anything and it's up to you whether you want to continue this friendship. Personally, I would feel pretty scummy asking him for a cut, if he didn't raise it. Just move on.

      • +1

If you guys were real good friends, he'll just shout you for dinner or movies every now and then, you shouldn't need cold hard cash to determine how much the friendship is worth. I'm pretty sure you're doing pretty well yourself just enjoy the company of each other, that's priceless.

        • Yeah but when does someone's word become meaningless? Would you still turn up to work if they stopped providing
          'financial rewards'?

  • +7

Ask him. If he says no, just move on. You did a good thing and just be proud of the deed itself. Asking for something in return for being a good samaritan is — in my book — wrong.
I know you discussed it beforehand, but don't let greed get the better of you and don't sink down to his level.

  • remind him

    • With bikies at his front door

  • +7

If someone here gives you an awesome piece of advice that results in him giving you money, how much of a cut are you going to give them?

  • There is no better rewards than of hard earned money.

There is feel good factor which you can cherish for rest of life or something you can say to ppl (brag) that you helped someone.

if you don't mind taking cut of something which your help was negligible or to minimum than why not, worst if will say no and no to future dealings with him as well or give you a spare change or better deal, depends on the relationship you have.

What if he pays you 100$ or 1000$ ? will that be enough for your inner satisfaction then go ahead and ask.

Remember, then you will give him opportunity to say to ppl that you took cut for finding a lotto ticket. if that does not bother and feel free

  • +1

    Unfriend him and move on.

  • +2

old boy related?? How exactly did you help him find it???
Did you/he know it was a winning ticket whilst you were looking for it?

You asked him about a cut before looking, what was his answer?

  • +5

get a rifle, take him hostage, and either get the full $101000 out of him or die in a long shoot-out with police.

It's the only logical course of action.

    • +1

That or call in bikies of course.

  • +2

Bet you OP hid the ticket until he was asked for help.

  • +2
    • Hijack an EgyptAir flight and hold the passengers hostage until you get a cut of his winnings

    • Go on A Current Affair, perhaps Tracy Grimshaw or Brady Halls could help you out

    • Try your luck with Scott Cam on Reno Rumble, maybe some deadbeat renovators can give you a new backyard or something

    • Just Nimble it and move on

    • Call the Bikies

    • I would suggest hire ninja…

      • TMNT?

        • and pizza for donatello~!

  • Where did you find it?

    • +8

      In his back pocket.

      • loll

I wonder how old this boy is.

The OP posts are really interesting, maybe he is just a softie like his kids :)

  • +3

The OP asked whether to let it go. I'd recommend YES let it go. Its pretty normal for people to dwell on "what if" and hope for a better outcome. I'd take it as a life lesson and appreciate yourself for stepping up and helping a fellow brother. You've probably helped him and probably his loved ones.

Its likely the gentleman had a hard life. He's unlikely to turn instantly to a generous person with money.

I like the "pass it on" theory. You've stopped to help this guy. Perhaps when he comes across another in a similar situation then he can help them out.

    • +1

      fellow brother

OP indicated hes too old to be his brother, unless there is a time travel scenario that has been omitted

      "pass it on" theory

I think you mean "pay it forward"

"Pass it on" theory is the discussion of the nuances of a kids game similar to chinese whispers

  • I dont know its nice that you did that, but should you expect monetary compensation for your actions Im not sure. How much would be enough. Would you get given a little bit and then be like is that all I get. I dont know. You should probably really just be happy you did a nice thing I guess

  • +8

Ring A Current Affair. They love this sort of stuff

    • +1

ACA definitely will get a full investigation on this, looking forward to it :)

      • LOL. ACA are more likely to milk it for two separate episodes.

Episode 1: The OP as the victim. OP was the ticket holders bestest friend till the lottery ticket revealed the truth.
Episode 2: The OP is their subject. About the loss of chivalry and self entitlement from random people.

  • +2

err.. this has got to be a troll/prank posting.
The question seems too ridiculous to be genuine.

    • +1

Its genuine have a read of the other posts of OP

  • +3

The "old boy" doesn't happen to be your father right?

  • +1

I even mentioned to him that if I help him out,is there a cut for me.

Did he agree to reward you? You never say.

If he did then ask, if he didn't then move on.

  • Well this is hilarious.

While it's nasty to not fulfill his promise, there's nothing you can do legally and he doesn't legally owe you anything, even if he verbally agreed to rewards you, you got no proof. Don't be so greedy, esp since you're doing well financially.

    • +1

To clarify, if there was a verbal agreement then yes - you would be legally owed. However, as you say, very hard to prove and a big ol waste of time.

  • Move on. You are better off without it.

  • +3

    I hate April fools day

They all come out like werewolf on full moon

  • What's wrong with the satisfaction of knowing that you helped better someone else ? If he decides to repay you then be grateful but maybe this 'old guy' has other higher priority financial commitments. In your OP you said "I even mentioned to him that if I help him out, is there a cut for me." That doesn't sound like a verbal agreement, it could have even been considered as a joke/sarcasm. Everyone now days wants something out of nothing, this thread sounds a lot like a teenager "If I do the chores what's in it for me?"
Surely not a bad April fools joke considering you made the OP prior to the 1st April that would be in bad taste !

  • "I even mentioned to him that if I help him out,is there a cut for me."

What a prince you are. We can only go on the facts you posted, which indicate he did not promise anything at all. I must remember your trick just in case I ever find someone bleeding out and in need of an ambulance. If I call the ambulance, will there be a reward for me?

  • +3

I'm calling bullshit on this, I think grabngo just made this up to get people stirred up (and it worked).

  • Trolling at it's best? Can you please tell us which date the lotto was for? I don't see any results on website which had a winning amount of $101000.00. I just checked last 10 results for every type of lotto ticket.

    https://tatts.com/nswlotteries/results/last-10-results?produ…

    /gif troll

    • Thats not really how lotto works.

The amounts listed are for a standard lotto ticket.

Say for example it was a Saturday lotto and you got 3 normal + 1 supp and the usual prize is $20

If you buy system 7 (aka, 1 extra number) the win for 3 norma; +1 supp becomes $60.

So we don't know for sure.

  • Tell the old guy you're a psychic, and if he shares the reward with you, you'll help him winning a bigger prize.

  • Let it go and feel good doing a good deed for an old boy.

You said you asked him if anything was in it for you, but the fact that you didn't mention his response suggests that there was no response from him. So I would not be expecting anything. It's up to him if he wants to give you something. Leave it at that. maybe once the cheque clears he might give you something.

Also, do another good deed and recommend to him that he registers with state lotteries and gets a registration card so that even if he loses his winning ticket in future he will still get paid.

I helped my friend lose his virginity the other night and when I mentioned the reach around he promised me he said 'nothing to do with me'.. A mealy mouthed reply

    • +1

      That sucks.

      • +1

No one did. That's the problem.

        • No one else got that. Never mind.

  • You caught quite a few people out there.

    • +2

      Post was made before today…

Troll - likely, April Fools - Can't be

      • +1

April fool, no…greedy fool, definitely! ;)

  • +2

    /gif Frozen go

  • /gif lotto sucks

  • oh, you are so sad,
i imagine you would help the old lady next door as long as your in the will

  • /gif your you're

  • /gif ninja is around

  • /gif doge

  • It may have made absolutely no difference

My dad told me that he lost (was probably stolen) his lotto tickets. So I called the lottery commission, explained the details and said that they cancelled the physical tickets, but if it wins, they will automatically credit his account.

  • +1

    Many April fools

  • /gif 1+1=36

  • Pretty sure Batman took on Superman over something similar OP, have at 'im! ;)

  • +2

i helped a lady find here car in the park

Based on the twisted morals i certainly own a share in her car now,

  • This reminds me of how the show My Name is Earl started. Earl finds a lotto ticket on the floor and is about to cash it in, then he gets run over and decides to use the money to help all the people he has done wrong over the years.

Also, if the lotto ticket was registered on the owner's Tatts card, they would not have to have the physical ticket to claim their prize and it will eventually get sent out to them providing their details are up to date.

  • dog manoeuvre. technically he doesn't owe you shit, but if it was me i would give you something, as without your help i wouldn't have any of the winnings.

  • lol @ OP

  • +3

I have had a look through your previous posts.
    Sad.

  • -2

Thanks everyone for your kind words.
I have decided to be a good human being and let him enjoy all his money.
I am slowly becoming a good person

    • A good person isn't just about being someone who 'lets' someone else enjoy money that they are entitled to. That is just someone who is greedy trying not to be as greedy.

    • +1

It's like you think you have the power/authority to determine if he can keep and enjoy his money or not and you're giving him aproval! How generous of you

  • Jesus Bill you stole my keno ticket when I went for a wizz. I shouted you a Jim Beam now leave me alone.

  • i use golden circle membership to prevent this exact scenario

it's linked to my card so if i did misplace the ticket or have it stolen no one can claim it as its linked online to my online account
