Tried the soft and gooey variety. Not too bad for $1. Do note that these use palm oil and so are pretty fatty and not very environmentally responsible. Super sweet too.

Was going to get some tomorrow until I read the palm oil thing.
Can't understand how companies can have policies on "responsible sourcing" yet still stock products that clearly breach these policies.
It's a policy for the sake of it, no consequences - typical of Australian companies…

      • This is a UK brand I believe: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maryland_Cookies

          25 seconds before me :P

Yep they've been sold in the UK for as long as I can remember. Maryland cookies often went BOGOF (Buy One Get One Free) back during the days of the credit crunch (GFC).

Maryland never priced themselves as a premium brand in the UK but their initial pricing upon release in Australia was a bit of a shock to me. I'm not surprised to see them go on sale so often as they haven't captured the amount of market share they were hoping to.

I'm also surprised about the price of Jammy Dodgers in Australia (made by the same company), but that's another story.

I was more referring to Coles, they have responsible sourcing policies for their suppliers.
Seems it doesn't extend to environmental sensitivity…

Except they are made in the UK, at least the ones I brought (before deal this was posted BTW).

I just read the ingredients. Palm oil is the second most common item on the list! And, yes, made in the UK. Looks like this will be my last purchase of Maryland. Never tried them before, but thought I'd give them a go for $1.00.

Tried the gooey peanut one, thought it was awful, some kind of chemical taste rather than peanut. The other chunky one was alright though.

Picked up some but noticed they had a short shelf life. I don't think the peanut ones even listed peanuts in the ingredients list? (A bit like the peanut butter Tim Tams!)

Tried one, can't remember which exactly. All I can remember is that its SWEET. Its almost as if were cookie flavoured sugar patties.

  • Has anyone see these at this price at other Coles stores?

    • Still $1 at Coles Burwood NSW.
