Drat. No more bonus 10% from everyday rewards.
    Still yum yum.

  • Anyone else think the “new caramel” in the creamy caramel block is worse than the og?

    • good luck finding all the flavours woolies lists in store.

  • +7

Give us the Banana Caramel >:(

    • Iga is getting stock but they are charging 12.99

Is this a NZ thing where expats say they love something because it's from their home country? I tried it a while ago and wasn't really impressed, should I give it another go?

    • +18

no idea, I'm aussie and I find it genuinely delicious. Tony's Chocolonely is my favourite sub-$10 block but Whittakers comes a close second

      • +3

I agree with this! Tony's is #1 but Whittakers takes second place (of the 'Supermarket' brands).
I bought a Cadbury Old Gold (Roast Almond) block a few weeks back and it wasnt great at all in comparison.

    • +8

It depends what you are comparing it to.

Its miles ahead of all the Cadbury and Nestle chocolate you can get.

Personally I think Aldi, Woolworths brand Belgian chocolate and Tony's chocolate is better quality but Whittaker's is the only brand that does premium/speciality flavours. Personally I don't buy them as I prefer fancy dark chocolate and I think the cocoa is too expensive for them.

    • +2

      Na its genuinely great

    • I'm in the same boat as you. Tried one or two Whittakers blocks and found them excessively sweet and milky like Cadbury. I guess the good thing is that unlike Cadbury, most of the Whittakers blocks do not include vegetable oil, according to the ingredients listed on the Coles website.

On the other and, I haven't tried them all, so there could some varieties that I like.

    • +1

It's different. Creamier than Dairy Milk. Some people really prefer that

    • +6

I don't think Charlie's comment deserved downvotes… they were genuinely asking for opinions.

I like Whittaker's at least as much as Cadbury myself. But as it tends to be more expensive (even when allowing for the larger size), I only buy it once in a while. My fav overall is the Choceur hazelnut from Aldi.

      • +7

Thanks, I quit smoking 185 days and 58 minutes ago, might go grab a block and see if the flavour's different to me now.

        • +2

Report back! Imagine if it was the smokes all along. Congrats on quitting though.

      • Choceur Fruit and Nut is the best!

      • It's because people incorrectly use downvotes like a 👎 tapback (as in disagree, that sucks, etc).

    • I don’t find them that sensational either. Too much sugar for my taste. I make my own from cocoa butter and essential oils. Had to stop because they are way too tasty though. Ginger, mint and (blood) orange are all excellent flavours. Just make sure the oil is aromatherapy grade, ie it’s safe to be directly absorbed into your lungs.

    • I'm kind of whatever with the milk chocolate variants, but enjoy their Rum & Raisin (50% cocoa).

    • +1

Chocolate like other things is subjective and open to interpretation depending on your taste buds. A bottle of wine that everyone loves for instance, you may find ordinary and even disgusting.

    • Whittakers makes good chocolate. WhatchutalkinboutWillis.mkv

    • i find plain cadbury chocolate nicer :)

      • +6

Cadbury is objectively shit chocolate bulked out with oil.

        • Savage.

        • -2

and whittakers is just nothing special? crazy ay

          • @Kozhutki: And Jack Daniels is pretty average, but it's much better than a bottle of turpentine dumped in a glass of flat diet LA Ice.

            • @Charmoffensive: im not a drunk

              • @Kozhutki: Nor are you literate enough to identify an analogy.

                • -1

@Charmoffensive: literate enough to understand you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to cadbury ingredients 🤡

                  • -1

@Kozhutki: lol. Bend over for Daddy Cadbury.

                    • @Charmoffensive: Not really bending over when it's cheaper than whittakers and tastes better 🤡

                      • @Kozhutki: "Harder daddy! I'll protect you on the internet, daddy, just go harder! OOhh, I love that you use the lowest cocoa content you can so that you can still legally qualify as chocolate and make up the rest in milk solids and sugar, yeahhh"

                        • @Charmoffensive: crazy that it tastes exactly like chocolate, and it is in fact, chocolate. keep off the whittakerz koolaid brutha

                          • @Kozhutki: *contains the minimum amount of cocoa to legally qualify as chocolate.

Sorry you have the taste buds of a 5 year old and can't tell the difference.

                            • @Charmoffensive: it contains well above the minimum bub, thats why cadbury has remained the largest chocolate manufacturer in australia 🤡

                              • @Kozhutki: Popularity doesn't mean quality, mate. Just look at Home and Away. People like it because they're idiots, just like you enjoy the Home and Away of chocolate.

        • oil is only in the wacky flavours for the fillings, milk or dark are based on cocoa and cocoa butter, no oil.

    • i’m a kiwi. the peanut slab and coconut slabs are the go to . the white s good too
      skip the rest

    • No it's just that Cadbury is really not that great and they do shrinkflation hard. Their product line is a shell of what it used to be. Of the supermarket options available I like it the best. Tony's is nice but a little expensive.

    • +1

whitaker milk chocolate is a bit higher in cocoa than cadbury dairy milk so has a bit more appeal to adults, but cadbury has velvet milk chocolate which has more cocoa than cadbury dairy milk or whitaker milk chocolate , i prefer the cadbury velvet milk if i just want plain chocolate. for dark chocolate eaters, they are more similar between brands as these is no milk in them, milk chocolate between brands has more variation in milk sugar and cocoa in the recipe for their brand signature. Aldi has the choceur milk and roth moser milk, both made by roth moser but different amounts of cocoa milk and sugar.

  • Ok I'll bite.

I still can't get used to the price of chocolate these days

    • +3

remember when lindt did 2 for $4 specials?

These companies are using legitimite price increases as a way to gouge us. Eg: Base materials goes up 10% so they raise prices 50%.

      • aldi chocolate has so gone up but is till about $25kg, all day, every, not special sale price.

    • +1

I stopped buying it. Sucks but maybe not the worst thing (for me). Now I just treat myself if there's clearance after Easter and Christmas.

I was stoked when I found $1 200g Lindt bunnies.

White Chocolate Mango and Coconut 250g- TWENTY DOLLARS!!
    are they kidding?

    • +1

Thats on BigW marketplace (3rd party seller), not in store.
I dont think that flavour is available anymore (hence the price gouge).

    • I miss that flavour

  • Oh nice, 30% off instead of the 20% from previous sales.

    • they’re 5.90 at willie with 10% everyday

  • the slabs are half price woolies too - 1.25

    • 45g.

  • +1

I miss getting samples of these when ordering from Hallensteins in NZ

  • I recently bought my first whittakers, i must admit it's worth the extra couple of bucks. so far i've tried the hazelnut and the hazella. looking forward to eventually trying them all : ) that 125years special edition will be next hehe

    • Never tried any of the hazelnut, what's better the hazella or hazelnut?

    • Not possible now. These blocks are only in 45g or 50g.
